Cover Reveal

Kendall Ryan has a new book coming out that is a spin-off from the Hitched series she released this year. It’s called The Fix Up and releases in October. It sounds like a treat so I’m looking forward to reading it. Check out the cover!!

The Fix Up by Kendall Ryan
Releases on October 11, 2016 by Kendall Ryan

From New York Times Bestseller, Kendall Ryan, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

My tempting, and very alpha friend Sterling Quinn is someone I consider off-limits.

It’s not just that we’re friends, he’s also a cocky, confident, and British, which means he’s a walking aphrodisiac.

But lately he’s been giving me the look. You know the one. When he thinks I’m not paying attention, and his gaze lingers for too long.

And then we start working together, and that’s when the sexual tension between us gets so thick, I want to hack through it with a machete. I want to make all these deep feelings I’ve harbored for him disappear, because there’s no way this can end well.

The lines between business and pleasure become irrevocably blurred, and I’m stuck between a rock, and Sterling’s very, very hard place.

Rather than keep a level head about our growing attraction, Sterling wants to go all in, showing me just how explosive we can be together.

But I’ve been around long enough to know that this British bad boy is more than my heart can handle. I’m not about to be cast aside like yesterday’s underwear when he’s done having fun.

Sterling’s never been told no, and he’s not about to put his ego aside and play by my rules. But I never thought he’d fight so dirty.

*This is a spin-off from the HITCHED series, but can be read as a standalone.

My reaction to that cover and synopsis is this:

In the chaos of New York, true love can be hard to find, even when it's been right under your nose all along…

Love has never been a priority for garden designer Frankie Cole. After witnessing the fallout of her parents' divorce, she's seen the devastation an overload of emotion can cause. The only man she feels comfortable with is her friend Matt—but that's strictly platonic. If only she found it easier to ignore the way he makes her heart race…

Matt Walker has loved Frankie for years but, sensing how fragile she is beneath her feisty exterior, has always played it cool. But then he uncovers new depths to the girl he's known forever and doesn't want to wait a moment longer. He knows Frankie has secrets and has buried them deep, but can Matt persuade her to trust him with her heart and kiss him under the Manhattan sunset?

We finally get Frankie’s story! I admit I was really looking forward to her book because she seemed like a great character, and she definitely was.

To briefly recap the series, it centers around 3 childhood friends, Paige, Eva, and Frankie, who form an events company in New York City after losing their jobs. Paige, the heroine from Book 1, is kind of the take-charge manager of the group. Eva is the bubbly and soft hearted chef. And then there’s Frankie, the florist, who is prickly and introverted. She’d much rather stay home with a book and her plants than do just about anything else, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her friends fiercely. Her circle of friends also includes Paige’s brother, Matt, though Frankie does her best to ignore her low-key attraction to him. When he needs her help with a job, they have to spend more time together, and Matt finally decides to make his own long-time interest in Frankie known. Frankie definitely has an unfavorable view of sex and relationships, though, so Matt sets about convincing her that she’s mistaken.

I really enjoyed Frankie. To be frank (harhar), she’s pretty messed up. She is completely terrified of relationships and believes they can’t last, so she goes to extraordinary lengths to push men away. Her parents had an ugly divorce, after which her mom completely fell apart before spending the rest of her life hopping around from younger man to younger man. At first I was thinking Frankie’s genuine phobia of relationships was kind of overdone. Lots of kids of divorced parents go on to be perfectly well adjusted so I felt like her issues were a bit extreme. But after learning more about her dad’s despicable behavior and seeing how selfish her mom was, it made more sense. It’s still over-the-top, but I could at least see where she was coming from. She certainly had a lot of self-esteem issues as a result of her childhood, too. It was a little hard to read sometimes, because when you boil it down, I think she was actually not sure she was even capable of love. Of course, we know that’s not true because we can see how much she loves her friends.

I could talk about the very steamy sex, the amazing use of the NYC setting, or a dozen other things I like about these books, but by a wide margin, the thing I am loving most about this series is the friendships. Paige, Eva, and Frankie are totally devoted to each other and it is a damn pleasure to read about. They share their feelings, they console, they lift each other up when necessary, and they always have each other’s backs. I know more page time is technically spent on the romantic relationships in these books, but for me the friendships are really the heart of the whole series and obviously the foundation for these women’s lives. I also love that, while not the core, others are also included in the circle of friends. For instance, there’s a really touching scene where Eva gives Matt someone to lean on when he’s hurting near the end of the book. It’s so lovely to see a bunch of grown ups who support each other like family. The dialog between everyone is snappy and funny and just makes me want to get to know these people in real life.

And yet…this book also frustrated me a bit, mostly near the ending. My frustrations started when Matt kept pushing Frankie. Yes, I know you’re in love with her and yes I know she’s almost impossibly skittish, but if she’s not ready to get more serious back the hell off! I kept thinking how none of her behavior should be a surprise to him so why was he trying to change the rules on her, especially when it really hadn’t been THAT long? Ease up and give her some more time instead of making it all about your poor manly heartbreak. And I won’t explain the ending, but I just wasn’t completely sold on the speed of the resolution. Frankie had some genuine, deep-rooted fears that are suddenly just resolved…poof! I would have liked to see a slightly more realistic (for Frankie) ride off into that Central Park sunset.

Despite these issues, I am so, so ready to read Eva’s story now. I wasn’t quite as interested in her in Book 1 but after learning more, I badly want her to get her own happy ending. Now that I know who her hero is going to be I’m extra excited, too. Hoo boy, he ain’t gonna know what hit him!

Scotland, August 1642

Maggie and Lachlan must fight their growing attraction, battling suspicion and intrigue as religious and political turmoil threaten to tear their clans apart.

He has sworn he will never marry.

Lachlan Cameron is honor bound to see a wounded lass to safety, although he has well learned women are deceivers, and this lovely maid harbors a wealth of secrets. But Maggie's free spirit and charms enthrall him while he works to discover if she is innocent…or a spy scheming with his enemies to destroy his clan.

She has sworn she will never fall in love.

Maggie Murray fled her home to avoid a political marriage to an abusive man. Salvation comes when the Cameron laird, unaware of her identity, protects her as she escapes. His kindness slowly warms her, and she’s tempted to confess her real name. But his strong sense of honor would force him to return her to her father…and torment at the hands of her scorned betrothed.

Maggie is terrified of marrying Conall Erskine, the monster that her father has betrothed her to. She’s been able to put off the wedding until her 21st birthday but the wedding is upon her now and she’s not about to go through with it. She dresses as a boy and leaves her father’s keep, luckily finding a horse not too far away, and taking it to get away. She plans to head for northern Scotland to join a convent. In a roundabout way she ends up with a party from the Cameron Clan and ends up falling for their Laird, Lachlan Cameron. She doesn’t want to because she had seen her mother constantly giving her love to her father with no reciprocation and she never wanted to be like her.

Lachlan Cameron was on his way to Edinburgh to deliver his cousin when he came across Robbie who had been living with a priest. That priest had been killed and the church burned. Robbie heads off with the Cameron’s to Edinburgh but when he sees Conall Erskine he points his finger at him as the murderer of the priest. After that, one of the Cameron men intercept a letter Conall has written stating his intentions of killing his own father for political gain.

Lachlan needs to get back to his land in order to notify the other Laird’s of the letter, and to keep Robbie safe from Conall. He has no idea who Maggie is as she won’t tell him but he also has no idea that she even knows Conall. Lachlan had been betrayed in the past by a woman and swore he would never marry and certainly never give his heart to a woman ever again. When he meets Maggie, however, he starts to change his mind. The problem is that he has no clue of her identity and doesn’t trust her. He might let his past guide his future and it may be the worst thing he’d ever done.

This was a good story of love, trust, betrayal and faith. I really enjoyed seeing Lachlan and Maggie come together and work out their differences. Yes, it took a while and yes, Lachlan had major trust issues (which were frustrating, I must admit) but it all worked out in the end. It finally came down to trusting each other and having faith that the one they loved would never turn on them. I really liked that part of it all.

Maggie was a really strong heroine. She had put up with a lot during her short lifetime and while it could have broken her in so many ways it actually ended up making her a much stronger person. She knew what she wanted, and what she didn’t want, and didn’t let anyone stand in her way. Her mother had done a number on her before she had killed herself. Constantly telling Maggie how much she loved and hated her father as he cheated on her all the time. It truly had given Maggie a extremely skewed view of men overall so yeah, Maggie certainly had her own trust issues when it came to Lachlan.

Lachlan was a great guy. You could really tell what kind of man he was by the love and loyalty he was shown by his clan. Except for one person, he was admired and respected. That told me a lot about him. The fact that he was trying to do the right thing with the information he had about Conall showed that he did things the right way rather than to take matters into his own hands. Yes, as I said, he had some major trust issues that got a bit old by the end but as he loved Maggie so much he was easily swayed back towards her in the end.

Overall a good highlander love story that was definitely worth reading.

Can a love built on secrets survive?

Rugged, hot, and rock hard, Dred Zander is exactly the type of man that normally sends Pixie running. Not dreaming about running her hands down his washboard abs...and lower. The lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload embodies trouble behind his quick smile and guarded eyes, and Pixie left trouble behind her years ago along with the name Sarah Jane Travers and the pathetic trailer her mom called home. With her abusive past in her past, she has a new life, a new family at Second Circle, and a dream of opening her own business. She needs capital and time. What she doesn't need is a tempting long-haired rocker or the paparazzi that follow him around.

But Dred has other ideas. Pixie's sweet hazel eyes, purple hair and kaleidoscopic tattoo of exotic flowers that swirl up her arm haunt his dreams, and he knows she wants him too. He just has to convince her. But as a juicy exposé threatens to expose their pasts, and a blackmailer terrorizes their present, Pixie and Dred have to decide what really matters and fight like hell to keep it.

Pixie is just 22 years old and works at Second Circle tattoos.  She was just sixteen when Trent and Cujo, the owners of Second Circle, found her in the doorway and helped her clean up her life.  She had been a drug addict for two years and they helped her get clean and then gave her a job managing the studio.  She’s been clean for 6 years and is proud of the progress she’s made in her life.  She had a pretty horrific life from the age of 13-16 but she’s on the right path now and is looking forward to starting her own business eventually.

Dred Zander is a heavy metal rock star who works with Trent on a tattoo TV show.  Because of this Dred is around a lot and from the first minute he saw Pixie, Dred was hooked.  He keeps asking her out but she keeps turning him down.  When she finally says yes one date isn’t enough for either of them and they get closer and closer.  Unfortunately, Pixie’s past doesn’t want to stay in the past.  When the step-father who made her life hell resurfaces all of Pixie’s secrets come out and they may be too much for Dred to handle.

Such a good book but very emotional!  I have to admit that parts of this book were very hard for me to read.  Pixie’s past was horrifying and I felt for the young teen she had been.  Dred’s life had been shit as well with a junkie mother and then living in a boy’s home.  (Of course that’s where he’d met the other guys in his band so that was a plus.) Reading about Dred’s childhood wasn’t much better than Pixie’s but definitely still heart-wrenching.

Dred had some serious crap to deal with in his life – especially when he found out about a baby he knew nothing of and then of course dealing with the mother who was a piece of work.  Of course the baby, Petal, stole the show whenever she was on page.  Dred and his band were wonderful with her and I loved seeing them all rally around her and take such wonderful care of her.

Because of his past Dred made some asshole decisions when it came to Pixie and of course regretted it.  I was happy that he finally pulled his head out and figured out how wrong he was which of course gave us our HEA.  This was probably my favorite book so far as I just loved Dred and Pixie together.

This series just keeps getting better as the books go on.  If you haven’t started this one yet I suggest you do.  Not light, easy reads but most definitely satisfying.

USA Today bestselling author Laura Lee Guhrke is back with the latest in her dazzling An American Heiress in London series, in which a reformed rogue finds all his honorable resolutions tested by the only woman who ever broke his heart...

After spending his youth as one of the wildest rakes in the ton, Lord Denys Somerton has devoted the past six years to putting his past behind him. He is determined to fulfill his duties, find a suitable wife, and start a family, but that plan changes when Lola Valentine—the red-haired temptress from his past—returns to London, sparking the same irresistible desires that almost ruined his life once before.

Lola is a woman with no romantic illusions. She knew love would never be enough for a British lord and an American girl from the wrong side of the tracks. For Denys’s sake, she walked away from him and the glittering life he offered. But when an unexpected inheritance brings her back to London, Lola discovers the passion between them is as hot as ever. Can they vanquish it, or will it burn out of control again and destroy them both?

No Mistress of Mine is the fourth installment in the American Heiress in London Series by Laura Lee Guhrke and IMO, it’s another fabulous addition to this series.

Lola is back in London on a mission. When she inherits half of a theater that is half owned by her ex-lovers family, she knows that it’s going to be tough going trying to get Denys to let her in on the business side of things since the previous owner didn’t really take a vested interest in the business. She’s determined not to be that kind of owner because she has goals and dreams that being part owner of a theater can make easier and she’s determined to make a go of it.

Denys cannot believe that Lola is back in London. He hasn’t seen her since she dumped him over for Henry, his business partner who had a better offer than he did. He offered her marriage. To take care of her but she didn’t want him. Instead, she chose to become Henry’s mistress over his wife. It’s been years and while Denys thought he was over being pissed off about it, turns out, he was wrong. He’s still thoroughly pissed off at Lola for her betrayal and abandonment. So when she shows up in London again after Henry’s death and he finds out that she’s taken over Henry’s half of the theater, he’s livid. He didn’t ask for this. He doesn’t want this. He wants to be the responsible gentleman that he’s become in the years since Lola left him and with every minute that he spends in her company, old feelings resurface and so do old secrets.

But like I always say (as does Selena Gomez)…

I will admit that in the beginning, I spent a little bit frustrated with how mad Denys was and how unreasonable he was being where Lola was concerned. I guess it’s been a while since the last book where all the drama went down (I forgot about all of that) and eventually, Denys comes around. I was glad that he didn’t take his sweet ol’ time getting to that place where he could be reasonable and see things from Lola’s side. I loved seeing the two of them try to find their new normal and I came to admire the hell out of Lola.

Lola was strong and she was everything that I want in a strong heroine. She’s smart and she’s strong but she’s not a bitch or to stupid to live. She had all of the right characteristics to make you empathize with her and love her.

Denys really came full circle for me because while he frustrated me in the beginning, I loved the hell out of him in the end. He made me swoon into a puddle of love for him when he stood up for Lola and when he just loved her. I’m grinning like a schoolgirl remembering him and his love for Lola. He couldn’t help himself.

Overall, this was a wonderfully written historical romance that had me wrapped up in feels. I enjoyed it quite a bit so I definitely recommend.
