MR-New

Rowena: August was a slow going month for me, reading wise. I think I only read like 8 books. Ugh. I’ll do better in September, I promise.

Here’s what I read:

A Summer Like No Other by Elodie Nowodazkij | 2.5 out of 5
The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick | 4.5 out of 5
When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare | 4.5 out of 5
Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines | 4 out of 5
Bounce by Noelle August | 4 out of 5
Make Me by Tessa Bailey | 3.5 out of 5
Sleeping with the Enemy by Tracy Solheim | 4 out of 5
Begging for It by Lilah Pace | DNF
Sacked by Jen Frederick | 4.5 out of 5
Tonight the Streets are Ours by Leila Sales | 2.5 out of 5

Okay, so I lied. I read 10 books, actually 9 books because I DNF’d one. My favorite read of the month will probably be Sacked by Jen Frederick. I loved this book. I loved the hero. I loved the heroine. I loved both the hero and the heroine’s brothers. There was much to like with this one. The romance was nice and steamy and the characters were all just fantastic. I highly recommend this book. I’ve also got some honorable mentions and that goes to When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare (historical romance) and The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick (contemporary YA). Both books were fantastic and so enjoyable. I highly recommend those too.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Begging for It by Lilah Pace. It wasn’t for me. I couldn’t connect with the main character and while I initially thought that this would be interesting to read since it was about a girl who was raped, who now has rape fantasies but the more I read, I realized it wasn’t my cup of tea. It was raw and both the hero and the heroine were passionate but holy cow, it was really uncomfortable for me so I stopped reading. The other books that were disappointments to me were Tonight the Streets are Ours by Leila Sales and A Summer Like No Other by Elodie Nowodazkij. Both books didn’t live up to the hype that I had for them in my head. 🙁

Holly: I did a lot of re-reading in August. Between work, travel and kid stuff, I didn’t have a lot of dedicated reading time. I find re-reading easier when my schedule is packed because I don’t have to give as much attention to a story I’m already familiar with. I read 16 books and all but 3 were re-reads.

The Touch of Fire by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
The Cutting Edge by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Mackenzie’s Pleasure by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Mackenzie’s Magic by Linda Howard (reread) | 3.75 out of 5
A Game of Chance by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3 out of 5
Against the Rules by Linda Howard (reread) | 4 out of 5
The Stolen Mackenzie Bride | 4.25 out of 5
Rules for a Proper Governess by Jennifer Ashley | 4 out of 5
The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie | 4 out of 5
The Seduction of Elliot McBride by Jennifer Ashley (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
The Duke’s Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
The Many Sins of Lord Cameron by Jennifer Ashley (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5

I didn’t really have a least favorite book this month, since all my reads were old favorites. I will say The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie and The Duke’s Perfect Wife are my favorites from the Mackenzie & McBrides series by Ashley.

This month, we’re giving away the following books:

Sacked
Sacked by Jen Frederick (e-book)

Thanks so much for the giveaway! The favorite book(s) I read this month was WHEN A SCOT TIES THE KNOT by Tessa Dare and EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING by Nicola Yoon. I feel bad listing my least favorite but ANGEL IN ARMANI by Melanie Scott.

  2. Kareni

A couple of favorite reads of the month were The Shattered Court: A Novel of the Four Arts by M.J. Scott and Brown-Eyed Girl by Lisa Klepas. Least favorite were Lilith Saintcrow’s Trailer Park Fae which I skimmed and Ten Below Zero by Whitney Barbetti which I put down unfinished after some fifty pages.

I’d love to win Jennifer Ashley’s The Stolen Mackenzie Bride or Sacked by Jen Frederick.

I have actually had a great reading two weeks so I don’t want to jinx myself 🙂 I’d have to say that my least fav read for August was The Greek’s Innocent Virgin by Lucy Monroe. it was just eh… full of typical big misunderstanding and lack of communication. My fav read was a Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare. It was awesome. Full of feels and awesome characters. I’ve heard great things about This new Frederick’s book! Thanks for sharing!

I read 22 books in August. My favorite by far was Meredith Duran’s 2014 book Fool Me Twice. But I also really enjoyed Tessa Dare’s When a Scot Ties the Knot, Barbara Delinsky’s Blueprints and a couple of the mysteries/thrillers I read–Linda Fairstein’s Devil’s Bridge and Chevy Stevens’ Those Girls. I highly recommend them all. My least favorite read was Speaking in Bones, the latest mystery by Kathy Reichs. I generally enjoy her work but I found this one too predictable and slow. If I win, I’d like one of the books from Holly’s list–Jennifer Ashley’s The Stolen Mackenzie Bride (preferably Kindle version.) Thanks for the recommendations and giveaway.

It was a busy month at work so I only read 15 books. My favorites of the month were Murder in Hindsight by Anne Cleelan, a mystery with strong romantic elements, and Confessions of a Reformed Tom Cat by Daisy Prescott, featuring a really sweet beta hero who loves the ladies and has just never found the right woman. Least favorite was Rule’s Obsession by Lynda Chance, but at least it was free. Either Sacked or one of the books from Holly’s list would be great. I’m mostly caught up on the Mackenzies but would love to get my hands on The Stolen Mackenzie Bride or Rules for a Proper Governess.

  6. I read five books in August, and DNF’d One Night: Denied, by Jodi Malpas. Of the five I finished, I enjoyed all of them, but the best one would definitely be Shelter Mountain by Robyn Carr. It was my second of her books, and as soon as I finished it I jumped online and ordered a bunch of her backlist.

    Sacked sounds good!
