  • What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  • Father Found by Judith Arnold | 2.75 out of 5
  • The Bride by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  • Satisfaction by Sarah Mayberry | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the month (not including re-reads) was probably Satisfaction by Sarah Mayberry. It was spicier than the previous books I’ve read by her, but it carried the same emotional punch. Honorable mentions go to Then Came You by Jill Shalvis and It Happened One Wedding by Julie James. Both were solid reads.

My least favorite read of the month was Father Found by Judith Arnold. The heroine drove me absolutely crazy. She was uptight and judgmental and completely ruined the story for me. Dishonorable mention goes to Finding Pride by Jill Sanders. This would have been my least favorite if I’d actually finished it. As it stands I read two, horrible, non-edited chapters and couldn’t go on. Terrible. Just terrible. Luckily, both were free downloads. At least I didn’t shell out any cash for them.

Rowena: I had a lot of things going on in the month of May so I didn’t get to read as many books as I had hoped.  My brother was fighting for his life, I drove all the way to Colorado from California for my nephew’s graduation then we were planning my brother’s funeral and family was coming in so things were pretty busy for me but even with all of that going on, I found time to do some reading and even some re-reading.

Here’s what I read in the month of May:

I didn’t read as many books as Holly (Does anyone? That speed reader) but I did read some good ones. My favorite read of the month goes to Then Came You by Jill Shalvis. I loved Wyatt and Emily’s story. It was sweet and funny and everything that I love in my romance novels. My least favorite read of the month goes to Jagged by Kristen Ashley. I didn’t know what to expect from this book but it wasn’t what I got. Ham? I still can’t get over that.

This month we’re giving away:

Satisfaction by Sarah Mayberry (digital copy)
Then Came You by Jill Shalvis

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

@ Rowena: I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. Something like that is difficult to go through.

My favorite book in May was It Happened One Wedding by Julie James. This was a great story with a very funny hero & heroine and terrific secondary characters. I also liked To Charm a Naughty Countess by Theresa Romain. My least favorite book was The Collector by Nora Roberts. I felt like this book was too similar to other books she’s written, plus the plot was far-fetched.

Please enter me in the drawing for both books. I’d appreciate winning either one.

    • Thanks Kim! I appreciate your kind words.

I loved IHOW by Julie James too. I loved seeing Vaughn and Sidney duke it out and then fall in love and I adored the secondary characters. It was all fantastic!

  2. Kate Mann

My favorite read of this month was Susan Mallery’s Before We Kiss!! Couldn’t put it down!My least favorite read of the month was Pure Heat by M. l. Buchman. I couldn’t get into it at all!!
I would love to be put in the running for Then Came You by Jill Shalvis!

  3. Catherine Scott

My favorite read of the month was Unfixable by Tessa Bailey. My least favorite read was Cowboy’s Email Order Bride by Cora Seton but it wasn’t bad just not as great as her other offerings..

I would love Jill Shalvis’ Then Came You…I already have Satisfaction by Sarah Mayberry. Superb!!

  4. Connie Saunders

I loved the new Mary Higgins Clark novel, I’ve Got You Under My Skin. Sorry to say that i was only able to read that one book in May!

  5. R–My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for your loss. Take care of yourself.

I read only 12 books in May. Of those, my favorites were It Happened One Wedding (Julie James) and Worth: Lord of Reckoning (Grace Burrowes.) My least favorite was Laugh, by Mary Ann Rivers. Thanks for the contest. If I win, I’d love Then Came You.

My favorite was Play by Kylie Scott. It was a fast moving fun story. My least favorite was Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson. It was a good book but I had really enjoyed Edenbrooke, a previous book of hers and, while the writing was wonderful, I just didn’t care for the story. Please enter me for both stories.

  8. Judy Goodnight

I read 19 books in May – 12 romances. My least favorite was Close to You by Kate Perry, any of the other 11 would count as a favorite book in comparison. They were all re-reads of Elsie Lee’s Gothic “contemporary” suspense books. Contemporary in quotes because they’re from the 60’s/70’s, but I loved them then & still do.

I’d love to get Jill Shalvis’s book, Then Came You.

    • I’ve got a few books by Kate Perry in my TBR pile but I haven’t touched them because I keep hearing different things. It’s made me scared. LOL.

Slow reading month for me, but my absolute favorite was Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips. I just love the whole Serendipity series, and this book didn’t let me down. As with other Carly Phillips’ books, it was another fun read. Least favorite was Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs from Kieran Kramer. It wasn’t a horrible book, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations like the first two books of the series.

I’d love to win the Jill Shalvis book Then Came You!! Thanks

    • I enjoyed Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips too. I really like that series. I’ve had the Kieran Kramer series sitting on my bookshelf at home but I’ve yet to touch it. Not sure what’s holding me up…oh well.

May was a slow reading month for me, but during May I finally got around to reading Gone Girl, which was so not a romance (!!!) and it was sort of my favorite and least at the same time, it was driving me crazy but I was completely hooked, so it was definitely a good read.

Rowena, I am so sorry for your loss.

I would like either book, I do not have the Mayberry book and Shalvis’ are always fun. 🙂

    • Thanks, Christina!

I’ve heard some really good things about Gone Girl. It’s on my TBR list so I’m hoping to read it soon (I say that about a lot of books but there’s just too many books and not enough time to read them all.)

  11. Ada

Rowena, sorry to hear about your loss, my thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

For me, hands down the best book of the month goes to Something About You from Julie James. I`m now finally caught up in the series and this one was just as good as the rest of them. My least favorite was Toni Blake`s Half Moon Hill. This one just didn’t click with me.

Please enter me for Jill`s book, I love her Animal Magnetism series!

    • Thanks so much, Ada.

I adored Something about You by Julie James. She writes my favorite kind of romances. The ones filled with smart characters and steamy romances. And the heroes are so full of yum. 🙂
