Rowena: I read a lot of books this year. I almost read 200 books, which is something that I’ve never done in my life. But throughout the year, I’ve read some fantastic books and some, not so fantastic books. Here are my favorite reads of the year:
- Love, Irresistibly by Julie James
- The Scandalous, Dissolute, No Good Mr. Wright by Tessa Dare
- Down London Road by Samantha Young
- The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen
- Unspoken by Jen Frederick
Honorable Mentions: The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding, Into the Deep by Samantha Young and Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley.
Holly: My memory is not what it used to be. I struggle to remember the names of characters 5 seconds after I finish reading a book. Luckily I had no trouble choosing these books, however. All of them are books that have stayed with me.
- Down London Road by Samantha Young
- Rumor Has It by Jill Shalvis
- Drawn Together by Lauren Dane
- Kinked by Thea Harrison
- Archangel’s Legion by Nalini Singh
What were some of your favorite books of the year?
In no particular order:
Sea Glass Winter by JoAnn Ross
The Best Man by Kristan Higgins
Love Irresistibly by Julie James
Can’t Stop believing by Jodi Thomas
The Newcomer by Robyn Carr
I really liked Sea Glass Winter. JoAnn Ross is an awesome author.
I would need to keep actual records of what I read when, to make these lists! The only one I can tell you with certainty that it was AWESOME is Nalini Singh’s Heart of Obsidian. Then again, I was stuck with rereads for most of the year!
Do you read her Guild Hunters series?
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Angels’ Blood (review here) and liked it well enough. I thought I would devour the series, just as I do with the Psy/Changeling books, and yet…I have just never been able to get into the successive books.
I struggled with the first half of Angels’ Blood and probably the first three chapters of the second book. Then I fell into the world and that was that. I’m not a huge fan of the Psy-Changeling series, however. Maybe it’s a one-or-the-other thing?
I am amazed that Holly’s list *waves* was not full of Kristen Ashley! Lol!
2013 overall was not a great reading year for me. There were highlights but there was a lot more meh too!
Highlights in no particular order.
Kylie Brant – Chasing Evil & Touching Evil. Romantic suspense.First 2 parts of a new self published trilogy. Ms Brant writes RS soooo well. Lots of tension and twists!
Laura Griffin – Exposed. And a new self published series – Crash & Burn.
Larissa Ione – paranormal. Bound by Night – start of a new series and Reaver, part of her Demonica series.
Bec McMaster – Victorian steampunk series. Heart of Iron, Tarnished Knight & My Lady Quicksilver.
Honourable mention to Claire Kent’s Escorted. This really took me out of my comfort zone with the hero being a male escort. Loved it but sadly haven’t enjoyed any of her later books to the same degree.
I think I am the only person disappointed with Nalini’s Heart of Obsidian. I had guessed who the Ghost was – so no surprise there. I thought the heroine got over her trauma too quickly. And if either character said/thought again for the umpteenth time – lets have an energy drink/meal I thought I would scream! Lol! 😀
And I think I did 😀
Happy New year ladies 😀
Ha. I think I have you beat..I stopped reading that series after the 4th book. I just don’t understand the appeal.
As for Ashley..I know how flawed her books are. Though I can’t stop myself from reading them, I can’t deny they’re rather ridiculous (but not!).
Plus, my favorite Ashley book is one I listed last year. 😀
