Each winner will get a box full of books. It will be random and you won’t know until you open up your box what books you will be getting. You can take a look at the bookshelf we created of the books we’re giving away for a peek at what you might get. But the joy of this months festivities is the surprise that will be waiting for you when you open your boxes.

This week we’re discussing heroes. Who is your all time favorite hero? If you don’t have a favorite hero, what hero does everyone love that you..don’t?

I have a lot of favorites but one of my favorite heroes is Sam Starrett by Suzanne Brockmann (shut up Holly!). From the minute that he stepped into the story in The Unsung Hero with his long hair and assholey attitude, I loved him. That love just kept right on growing and growing throughout each book too. He wasn’t that cookie cutter hero that does everything right and is so perfect it’s kind of disgusting. He made dumb mistakes and he said stupid shit but I loved him anyway.

When he finally got his happy ending in his book Gone Too Far, I was thrilled for him. And for Alyssa, his heroine. They just made so much sense and after all of the shit that they went through, for them to finally get together (and get it right) was so satisfying to me. I loved it and I loved him.

Who is your all time favorite hero? If you don’t have a favorite hero, what hero does everyone love that you..don’t? Curious minds want to know…let’s discuss!

Please Note: You must include a valid email address with your comment to be eligible. Us and Canada only*

Oh my God! Sam is also one of my favorites. I’ve re-read “Gone Too Far” at least once a year since it came out because I love Sam, I love Alyssa, and I love the growth of the relationship from the first book to the latest in the series.
To be honest, other than Roarke (squee!), no one else really comes to mind. I think I fall a teeny bit in love with the hero in whatever book I’m currently reading.

Oh wait! I forgot Cal from Jennifer Crusie’s “Bet Me.” Handsome, complicated, loves the heroine for who she is? Can I claim him for mine?

I love Quinn in Keri Arthurs Riely Jenson series. He’s a vamp and sooooo yummy. He kicks butt, can be a smartass, and he gets what he wants. No matter what.

I also love ALL the BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood) men, cause, well, HELLO, they are hot and have attitudes. And fight for their women!

  3. My all tiime favorite hero is a tie between Roarke and the Archangel Raphael. They’re very similar in that they are dark, brooding men but they love and protect their heroine.

  4. My favorite hero is definitely Rhevenge from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. He was such a hard-ass. Not to mention the whole drug dealing pimp thing he had going on. It was nice to see his softer side and to realize that a lot of the strange goings on with him were due to a very valid reason.

So many heroes I cannot limit myself to one. A couple of favs are Lord Devlin Steele from Diane Gaston’s The Mysterious Miss M and the rake Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent in Kleypas’ The Devil in Winter.

  6. Another vote for Roarke. Aside from him, I absolutely love Bones from the Night Huntress series and Curran from the Kate Daniels series. They are both just a little crazy and would do anything to protect their ladies (not that their ladies need protecting…).

Ah heroes. Aside from the heroine they can make or break a romance for me, along with some other aspects. It’s really a hard decision because I tend to fall for most of the heroes I read about. They are that good. I tend to like the tortured, moody, brooding kind, though I have met some fun ones (Kristan Higgins’s). I’m just going to mention one of my newest favorite hero: Ty Sanders from The Promise of Jenny Jones by Maggie Osborne. He’s a cowboy – tough, handsome, funny and smart. Usually alpha heroes appeal to me but once in a while a beta does come along and capture my heart so he’s worth a mention: Alex Montgomery from Annie’s Song by Catherine Anderson.

  8. It’s really hard to pick just one favorite. I have favorites from all the sub-genres so if you said favorite contemporary hero or supernatural hero. That would be easy. But overall I think I’m going to go with Douglas Kowalski from Midnight Angel by Lisa Marie Rice.

  9. I totally get the Roarke love, but I absolutely understand you, Rowena: Sam Starret is utterly yummy!

I can’t say that I have one favorite hero–too many books, too many characters to enjoy, you know?

Right now I’m salivating over Nalini Singh’s Kaleb Krychek–and more than a little over Anthony Kyriakus. I would love, in a lost-my-mind way, if it was the later who turned out to be the Ghost *evil grin*

You know who was my favorite male character for well over twenty years? Athos, from The Three Musketeers. Noble, quiet and mysterious *happy sigh* but determined to do the right things, no matter the cost to himself.

Mostly my favorite hero is whoever I am reading at the time.
I was really happy for Sam when he got his life together & was connected to Alisha & his children.

  11. There are tons to pick from, but from the top of my head, I pick Cal from Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie or Iain from The Secret by Julie Garwood.

  12. Jane

So hard to choose, but my recent favorite is Zach McBride from Pamela Clare’s “Breaking Point.”

  13. I think I’d pick Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series as my favorite hero. I’m pretty sure he has lots of fans, so I’m in the majority with that pick. 😀

  14. Ok. I’m preparing to duck, but I couldn’t stand Sam and Alyssa. But before you all bum rush me… I do love The Trouble Shooters. My fav was Max Bhagat and Cosmo Richter. OMG… I love how Max fell in love w/ Gina but b/c of her trauma and her age difference, he denied his feelings for so long. I need to go reread Breaking Point (best book evah!)

Max is the epitome of the “alpha” hero to me. Strong, confident, competent; yet able to be real enough to have flaws and feelings. So many of the “alpha” heroes being written now are really turning me off b/c they are one fine line away from controlling sociopathic caveman dragging the heroine into his cave by the hair.

Douglas Kowalski, from Lisa Marie Rice’s ‘Midnight Angel’, is my favorite hero. A big, hulking, scarred slab of man with the heart of a poet and an unwavering love for the heroine, Allegra…what’s not to love? *sigh*

  16. Cam from Lorelei James’s Rough Rider series and Dragos from Thea Harrison’s Elder series are my two favorite.

  17. Any heroes that can handle a strong heroine and appreciate her strengths are my favorite. The only exception I have is Raphael (sorry, girls, but he scares me a bit).

  18. I am in love with Sebastian from Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. I have reread that book so many times that I have gone through 4 copies. Luckily I received a kindle last year and now have it electronically.

  19. Let’s not be stingy, now. Why narrow it down to only one hero. A few of my favorites:
    Clayton Danvers—Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld Series
Alexander Moncrieffe—Julie Anne Long’s Pennyroyal Green Series
    Max Pesaro—Colleen Gleason’s Gardella Chronicles
The Duke of Jervaulx—Laura Kinsale’s Flowers from the Storm
Michael Stirling—Julia Bridgerton’s When He Was Wicked
Maxim de Winter—Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca
And I still love GWTW’s Rhett Butler, even though I know others feel differently!

I agree with many others: Sebastian St. Vincent, Alexander Montcrieffe, Michael Stirling, etc.

There are so many to choose from, but at the moment three stand out for me: Conall Maccon from the Parasol Protectorate series, Major Samuel Reed from Carla Kelly’s With This Ring, and Bowie Stone from Maggie Osborne’s The Wives of Bowie Stone.

  22. StacieD

I have several favorites but I will choose one of them. I adore Brody Brown from Lauren Dane’s Brown Siblings books. He is tough and caring. He may be covered in tattoos but he is a great dad and big brother.

Mr. Darcy is my favorite hero! I love the book, the retellings and could watch the movies non stop!:-)

  24. I don’t have just one, but I do think that Vane Kattalakis is always the hero that comes to mind whenever the topic of heroes comes up. He’s the hero in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Night Play”. Another hero that immediately comes to mind is Matthew, the hero in Lisa Kleypas’ “Scandal in Spring”. There are so many others, but definitely I think Vane is it. I think that the fact that he doesn’t give a damn about the heroine being a BBW, his finding her breathtaking, and at the same time his not being an Alpha-H though he’s kick-butt, really attracted me.

  25. One of my favorite heroes is Fletcher Rand from Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand. He falls in love with the heroine and her family so sweetly.
