  1. Didn’t take any classes but both in high school and university I’ve had to write creative pieces and I enjoy them very much, I’ve always chosen to do so if it’s an option. Alas, much like drawing I haven’t done either in some time but would love to again.

  2. No creative writing in HS or undergrad… but in middle school I was in POP – or Power of the Pen, a competitive creative writing team.
I also used to dabble and do scribbles but it was… well, nothing.
I’m quite happy as a reader now.

  3. We didn’t have that kind of like classes. But I did write some short stories in my spare time, usually during the summer… But this happened before high school.

  4. I have never taken a creative writing class, but it’s something that I may do in the near future. I have always been a storyteller, and lately I have been putting more of thoughts to words on the page with short stories and poetry.

We don’t have such classes at High School i’m in.
And on my own i don’t really write. I’m not good at this.
    Like reading though!

  6. I dont believe we had those classes when back when. While I loved English, I did not like to write.

Loved to read and loved grammar beleive it or not.

No, I didn’t take any creative writing classes, but my English classes did require us to write a poem & a short story.

I took creative writing at community college. It was excellent timing, because my first serious boyfriend dumped me, giving me much material for angsty poetry. 😉 — willaful

  9. I did a little creative writing in high school and college, but most of my writing energy went to journalism–high school newspaper, college radio station, etc.

  10. I’ve never taken a writing class or written poems or short stories. The closest I’ve come is writing essays in English class in college – I got fairly creative with good results as far as grades went.

  11. I took a creative writing class in college but was not very creative or good at! I would rather read someone eles’s stories or poetry. Mine was really bad and the grades showed it! Yikes! I do remember a hot guy in my class who always asked for my help! 🙂

  12. OMG–creative writing up to the feet of the Almighty in both high school and college. In fact, at Stephens College, if you couldn’t write well you didn’t do well. I have been so grateful for HS teachers that insisted that we write essays and poetry of various styles–I really didn’t do Haiku well–and especially liked sonnets. So I hope that our schools once again–eventually–find ways of getting more instruction in writing into the English and other language curricula. Great book line-up–please count me into the drawing.

  13. I received an English degree in college so yes, I did all sorts of writings. I still journal to this day to de-stress.

  14. I didn’t have a creative writing class, but I enjoy dabbling in writing. Sometimes I write poems and begin writing a book. Unfortunately, I have several unfinished manuscripts. I have a tough time finishing.

  15. Natasha

Nope! Not fond of writing at all! Thats why I picked a major with the least amount of essay-like writing, computer science 🙂

  16. Hello,

Yeah, I took a few creative writing classes in HS & College. I took them mostly because they were required. I preferred literature classes where I could read and discuss books, instead.

It was a writing course I was taking that really fueled my love of reading!

In HS, I took a creative writing course for the credits needed. My instructor mentioned that something I’d written reminded her of something she’d read (in a flattering way). It was the first time I really “got” the connection between writing and reading.

I went on and got a journalism degree but wish I had the talent to write fiction. Mine is…flat at best.

  18. I had creative writing my junior year in highschool and loved it!!! I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories and had some stuff published in our literary magazine. I tried for longer stories, but once I reached the middle I would loose interest or try to hurry through the end. So, I stuck with mainly poetry. Writing has always been my strong suit and any writing or language arts classes I passed with flying colors. The rest, I stuggled through, mainly ’cause there was no interest in geometry and whatnot 🙂

  19. I don’t remember taking creative writing in high school or college. But I did used to sneak off and write short stories when I went to visit my Nana and Papa. My Mom is 1 of 8 so there were always people, aunts, uncles and cousins there when we visited. It was the only way to escape and be by myself.

I never took creative writing in high school, but use to (and still do) write novel length books all the time

  21. Pam S (pams00)

I took advanced English and Lit which had creative writing tied in with it. I did not take a classes devoted entirely to creative writing. I did used to write short stories and poetry and have a few published.

I wrote poetry in high school. It was free-verse, angtsy… you know, 80’s version of Emo teenager (though I didn’t do the black hair and eye makeup and cutting part).

I never took a class, but loved writing short stories in elementary school and junior high, then had the pleasure beaten out of me in high school.

I didn’t get back to writing until the last couple of years and now I’ve written a few unpublished novels. I’m working on my craft, right?

  23. I took creative writing in high school (it was about the only honors English class that year). I didn’t take any creative writing classes in college though and the only poetry I write are haikus.

  24. That’s a pretty eclectic set of books you are giving away today. I don’t have a creative bone in my body so I happily avoided the creative writing classes in high school and college.
