Tracy’s review of Delicious (Wicked Lovers #3) by Shayla Black

He can’t control his desire. Luc Traverson’s entire future is planned out—but there is one very sexy obstacle in his path: Alyssa Devereaux . She’s a former exotic dancer turned strip club owner and restaurateur. Recently, Alyssa and Luc shared one night of wild abandon that left Luc terrified by his loss of self-control—and Alyssa desperate for more.

And that’s just the way she wants it.

Fulfilling a promise, Luc is the guest chef for Alyssa’s restaurant debut. The sight of her makes Luc wild, so how can he survive a week without letting loose and ravaging her—especially when she’s begging for it? Luc’s desire for her explodes when he realizes he isn’t the only man desperate to have her. But one of the others is deadly. And that’s not the end of Alyssa’s secrets…which are as dark and mysterious and enticing as her fantasies.

The blurb pretty much explains the premise of the book. Alyssa and Luc had a torrid night of sex and then Luc was silent. He completely brushed Alyssa off. Alyssa is now opening her restaurant and Luc is to be the guest chef for the first week. Alyssa is determined to get the man back into bed while he’s in town – but Luc has other plans. His include staying far, far away from Alyssa because he wants her so badly and she’s just not the type of woman he’s looking for.

We met Luc in Decadent, the previous book in this series. He was a nice guy who had made some bad choices and had possibly screwed up his relationship with his cousin Deke. Despite the bad decisions I felt bad for the guy. He’d been told that it was virtually impossible for him to father a child and that was something he wanted more than anything. But when we start this book Luc is like a different person. He can still be kind and loving at times and he’s still hotter than hell but my god it was like an evil pod person had come and taken over his body! About every 10-20 pages the line, “what a bastard” would spew from my lips.

Luc wanted to be a father. He also wanted the sweet, loving, stay at home mom type of woman to be the mother to his children that he would adopt. Alyssa did not fit the bill but he couldn’t stop having sex with her. She told him that he was the only man she’d slept with in nearly 3 years – she was no ho. Did he believe her? Nope. It truly didn’t matter what she said – he thought the opposite. Even when he felt he was in love with her he still thought she was sleeping around. Now I understand people making bad choices and having moments where they could be disbelieving but what more did the woman have to say to him to make him believe? So frustrating!

For Alyssa’s part she didn’t help the situation. She had a bodyguard who was in love with her. At first she kept saying to Luc that she wasn’t sleeping with anyone but when bluntly asked if she was sleeping with Tyler, the bodyguard, she hedged. She was being stalked and receiving threats and it bothered Luc greatly but did she ever call him for assistance when needed? No, she called Tyler. She gave Tyler her house key – was naked in front of him regularly and didn’t brush off his physical advances – and she’d known the guy for only 4 months.

I have to say that I really like this series and will continue to read it since I like Black’s writing but this particular book was, for me, like watching a train wreck: it’s horrible but you just can’t stop yourself from looking. I should qualify it and say that there were some very good parts to the book but they were few and far between.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

  1. I agree this book is my least favorite by her that i have read. I really enjoyed Wicked Ties but this one, not so much.
