Monthly Reads: February

Posted March 9, 2010 by Casee in Features | 28 Comments

Casee: I expected February month to be a huge reading month for me. Going on vacation for two weeks setup me up for ideal reading time. In actuality, I didn’t even finish one book. It was really unexpected. The number of books I read in February was a dismal eight. Including re-reads, it’s probably ten. Even with the low number, the quality was high. My favorite books were both Joss Ware’s and Kresley Cole’s Pleasure of a Dark Prince.

Beyond the Night by Joss Ware (4.75/5)
Prior Bad Acts by Tami Hoag (4/5)
Mightkeepers by Jessica Andersen (DNF-though I am going to give it another shot)
Embrace the Night Eternal by Joss Ware (4.25/5)
Lion’s Heat by Lora Leigh (4/5)
No Chance by Christy Reece (4/5)
Naked Edge by Pamela Clare (3.75/5)
Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole (4.5/5)

Holly: Last February (2009) I read 27 books. This year I read 14. I was going to complain about how awful that is, but I’m working on a guilt free system, so eh. 14 isn’t too bad, right?

The Highlander’s Touch by Karen Marie Moning (re-read) 4.5/5
First Comes Love by Christie Ridgway 4.25/5
The Truth About Lord Stoneville by Sabrina Jeffries 4/5
Moon Craving by Lucy Monroe 4.25/5
Moon Awakening by Lucy Monroe 4/5
On the Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards 4/5
Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon (re-read) 4/5
Fantasy in Death by J.D. Robb 3.75/5
Taming the Highland Bride by Lynsay Sands 3.5/5
Seducing the Heiress by Olivia Drake 3.75/5
Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon (re-read) 4/5
Shadow of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon 1/5
Diamond Bay by Linda Howard (re-read) 4.25/5
Midnight Rainbow by Linda Howard (re-read) 4.25/5

My favorite reads this month were Moon Craving by Lucy Monroe and First Comes Love by Christie Ridgway with honorable mentions to On the Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards and The Truth About Lord Stoneville by Sabrina Jeffries. My least favorite read was absolutely Shadow of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Awful, awful story.

Rowena: I didn’t read as many books as I thought I was going to read because when the month started I was pretty excited but that’s okay, I’m hopeful for March even though so far…not doing so good. Here’s my list from last month:

Drive Time by Hank Phillipi Ryan (DNF)
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen (4.25 out of 5)
Penguin Luck by Kay Mupetson (2.5 out of 5)
13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher (4.75 out of 5)
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon (3.75 out of 5)
Magnolia Wednesday by Wendy Wax (DNF)
Something Like You by Sarah Dessen (3.75 out of 5)
Rich Again by Anna Maxted (DNF)
The Warrior by Kinley MacGregor (3.75 out of 5)
The Taking by Erin McCarthy (4.25 out of 5)

My favorite read of the month was 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher and Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. I’m going to give away 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher because I think everyone should read this book and then give it to their kids and have them read it too but only if your kids are 14 and older. Such a good book.

This month we’re going to giveaway:

On the Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards
Beyond the Night by Joss Ware
13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

Favorite – Simple Jess by Pamela Morsi. Maybe tied with A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh. Oh, and then there was A Rose at Midnight by Anne Stuart… good month!

I had a lot of DNFs though, which makes it hard to pick a least favorite, because mostly I didn’t finish/record those books. I’ll go with Black Rose by Nora Roberts.

Been hearing a lot about Joss Ware, so I’ll put my name in the hat for that. — willaful

  2. I would love to win a copy of Beyond the Night by Joss Ware. I really want to try out her work…the plots looks fantastic and original.

As for best book for March so far has to be The Missing by Shiloh Walker…I’m on a total Shiloh kick right now…just recently started reading her work and am totally captivated by her writing.

The worst book so far has to be Copycat by Erica Spindler…I just could not get into this book. So for now…it’s going to go back on my to read list.

    Happy Reading

  3. Hi!

I just saw that I won the last months giveaway for monthly reads by Larissa Ione but the Demonica series was just taunting me, so I gave in and bought Lore’s book. I wouldn’t want someone else to miss out on such a great book, and it doesn’t seem fair to accept a second copy. I hope its ok if I passed on it, for some other lucky person to read.

    Thanks anyway!

  4. Favorite book in February? Erm… Leave Me Breathless by HelenKay Dimon. (That was a February book right? Or Slow Heat by Jill Shalvis?) And otherwise :X I didn’t read much.
Least favorite… gosh so many. I’m DNF’ing even keepers. Least favorite… I couldn’t get through the newest Nauti book. Just.. meh. Don’t think I could even be arsed to skim the end. (Maybe, but can’t remember. Eep.)

  5. My February fave is Rachel Gibson’s soon-to-be released, NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. I lucked out and received an ARC. Loved it. Finished in less than a day.

Least favorite is Jill Shalvis’s, SLOW HEAT. Got such great reviews and I wanted to like it, I love baseball and sports-roms but it was a disappointment for me. Heroine annoyed me with her passive-aggressive act.

I’d like ON THE STEAMY SIDE if I get chosen. Thanks!

  6. My favorite: Brava, Valentine by Adriana Trigiani (a close second: A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh)

Least Fav: All That You Are by Stef Ann Holm (wasn’t horrible – it just didn’t do anything for me and it was the last of a series).

I’d love to read On The Steamy Side

  7. Chelsea B.

My favorite read was Scandal by Carolyn Jewel.
My least favorite was Skin Game by Ava Gray (even though it was my least, I still really, really enjoyed it.) Se how I am? LOL! I can’t even really pick a least favorite! 🙂
And I would like Beyond the Night by Joss Ware

  8. I’d like to read Beyond the Night by Joss Ware.

    My favorite read :
    Wild Heart by Lori Brighton

    Least favorite :
I still haven’t finished The Widow’s Season by Laura Fairchild Brodie (this is my least, even I’m still continuing to read page after page slowly : )

  9. My favorite read for February was Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh. I didn’t really have a least favorite.

Would love to win a copy of 13 Reasons Why by Jay Ashser.

    Thanks!

PS–can’t wait to read Lion’s Heat by Lora Leigh!!

  10. QLady48

Wow, soo many good books came out in Feb., hard to pick a best one!!

Best Read was: Back In Black by Lori Foster
This might not be for every one and I don’t think it’s at all a stand alone read. It’s the end to a series I’ve been reading for a few years. I had been waiting for this book for a long time and it was great!!

Worst read was: Loves Me Loves Me Knot by Heidi Betts

I’m not saying this was terrible and I’m sure many readers will disagree but it wasn’t for me. I read it all the way through and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I just didn’t care for the heroine trying to use an ex-hubby for a stud service.

I would love to win On The Steamy Side. Thanks, Sue

I have a lot of favorites – I reread the guild hunter series by nalini Singh and i love them both so much! I also loved Life as we knew it by Susan Beth Pfeffer. it was awesome. Feb was an ok month. There was some DNF for me initially like the Price of Desire – which i wanted to read but was not in the mood to do so. I would be reading it later.

And I’ve read 13 reasons why. I loved it and also feel that it is a must read.

I would like to win either on the steamy side or 13 reasons why. Thanks for the contest

  12. My favorite was Slow Heat by Jill Shalvis. I don’t have a least favorite, but haven’t read alot this month.

Would like to win On the Steamy Side.

  13. Some nice reads this month. My Favorite read: Coming Undone by Lauren Dane or Raw, Rough and Ready by Lorelei James
Least Favorite read: Shadowlight by Lynn Viehl

I would like On the Steamy Side

  14. my favorite read for february would have to be spider’s bite by jennifer estep and my least is jordan by susan kearney.

please put me in for either on the steamy side or 13 reasons why. thanks! 🙂

  15. My favorite reads for February would be “Ecstasy Unveiled” by Larissa Ione, “It Happened One Day” by Lisa Dale” and “The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Percy Parker” by Leanna Renee Hieber.

My least favorite read was “Ice” by Linda Howard.

I would love to win either “Beyond the Night” by Joss Ware or “On the Steamy Side” by Louisa Edwards!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  16. I’ve read quite a few books this month but my very fav. was PASSION UNLEASED by Larissa Ione (I’ve only just discovered her) – this story had such emotional depth I ended up crying three times!

My least fav. – Nicolas by Elizabeth Amber (loved the concept but there was little connection/real depth to the heroine/hero, just didn’t click with me).

BEYOND THE NIGHT by Joss Ware would be my pick of books please.

  17. My favourite book this month was First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost.
My least favourite one was The Sword by Jean Johnson.

I would love to win either On the Steamy Side or Beyond the Night.

My favorite book in February was Soulless by Gail Carriger. Now I can’t wait for the next book, Changeless, which comes out at the end of March.

As for least favorite, that would be The Devil’s Possession by Heather Waters. It was a medieval romance with an interesting premise with the hero being the one with “witch” powers, but wasn’t well executed.

I’ve been wanting to read 13 Reasons Why so I’ll go with that. My second choice would be Beyond the Night. I had to register as anonymous so if I win, my email is jen@delux.com.

My favourite book was Too Good to be True by K Higgens. It was so funny! I’m now looking to find her other books.

My least favourite was Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I was cringing reading it but, after reading reviews, apparently many people loved it.

I’d love to win Beyond the Night by Joss Ware.

    Thanks!

  20. I read 12 books in February. My favorites were Courtney Milan’s Proof By Seduction and Karen White’s The Girl on Legare Street.

My least favorite was Your Wicked Ways by Eloisa James. The hero and heroine just didn’t click for me at all.

I’d love to win either the Joss Ware or Louisa Edwards novels. Thanks.

My favorite read of the month was probably Home for the Holidays by Sarah Mayberry. I didn’t have a least favorite because everything I read was pretty enjoyable.

I’d love to read 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

    Hi there!
wow, your lists are fantastic – I haven’t read approx. as many…

my favorite book was Archangels’ Kiss by Nalini Singh – it was fantastic to read and I can’t wait to read more about that couple 🙂

the least favorite one…mh… there were a few books which were average, but really bad? no, there wasn’t one this month…

would love to read Beyond the Night by Joss Ware
    see you soon,
    Ina

  23. Hello,

My favorite February read was No Chance by Christy Reece. It was the first book in a new trilogy.

I’m usually don’t like listing least favorites, but it was Knock Me for a Loop by Heide Betts. I was so excited about this book because I had read the previous two. I guess I was too excited because it was not as good as I hoped.

If I get picked, I would like On the Steamy Side. Thanks.

  24. I read a lot of good ones for Feb. My fav was Slow Heat by Jill Shalvis.

The one I least liked was Tempt me if you Can by Janet Chapman.

If I win, I would love to have On the Steamy Side.

Hi, I didnt get to read a lot this month – but I did not like Sandra Brown’s latest one – it was a historical and sorry the name escapes me. There were not any I did finish and I really liked Back in Black by Lori Foster.
