A warrior with no emotion …
Brennan meets Tiernan for the second time – but he doesn’t really remember the first. You see Brennan was cursed by Poseidon himself 2000 years earlier to feel no emotion. He was a drunk back then and liked to carouse with women. When he seduced a Senator’s daughter (back in Rome) and got her pregnant he tried to do the right thing but was spurned by the woman. After her reputation was ruined she killed herself and apparently Poseidon blamed Brennan for the death. The curse was to only be broken by Brennan’s one true mate but he was doomed to forget her when they were out of sight of each other. Tiernan is obviously Brennan’s mate since he starts to feel when he is around her but this poses a problem for them when it comes to the getting into the lab. Luckily Brennan’s money talks – and since the scientist wants it he’ll do what needs to be done…including enthralling Brennan and Tiernan.
This is book 7 in the Warrior’s of Poseidon series and a book I really liked. I thought it was a great premise to have Brennan forgetting his mate whenever he wasn’t with her – not something you see in books too often. He was a strong character and I felt for him and his lack of emotion. He seemed to handle the resurgence of emotion well – even though he went a little crazy at first.
For Tiernan’s part – I thought she was a strong character as well. She seemed to deal well with Brennan and his emotion and I felt was a good match for him in temperament and personality.even though she seemed to not be able to make up her mind at times about whether she should leave him or not.
I only had a couple of niggles with the book. There were times in the story that Brennan talked about stuff that he shouldn’t have known and it was a little off putting. I kept having to go back in the story to see if I had missed where info had been shared with him but it was never there. For example: Tiernan’s ability to Truth Tell, as he called it. She hadn’t told him anything about it but yet when he was talking to High Prince Conlan Brennan told him flat out that she was a Truth Teller. How did he know that? IDK. For Tiernan it was the fact that at first she kept saying that she was going to leave Brennan since he would forget her anyway and then she could go about her business of getting the story – but the next scene she’s all in with staying with him. We never saw when she actually made that decision and I felt like I was left out of the loop somewhere.
But for the most part I really liked the book. It had action, adventure, mad scientists, warriors gone wild and shape-shifters What more could a girl ask for?
