New York Times bestselling sensation Gena Showalter returns with her long-awaited next installment of the Lords of the Underworld series…

He is the keeper of Doubt and his entire world’s about to be rocked.

Bound by the demon of Doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.

Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

I loved Gwen. Absolutely loved her. She was a superb heroine and a great harpy.

Gwen was held captive for a year before she was “rescued” by the Lords of the Underworld. Gwen has heard horror stories of these warriors in the past, which she can’t reconcile with the men that offer her freedom. She is especially drawn to Sabin, the keeper of Doubt (though she doesn’t know that he’s Doubt at first).

To say that Sabin is unlucky in love is an understatement. His last lover committed suicide, driven by the voice of Doubt that he has inside him. He’s immediately drawn to Gwen, but stays far away from her when Doubt starts whispering to her. When he first sees the destruction she’s capable of, he is flabbergasted. Though he doesn’t particularly want to, he takes Gwen to the Lords compound in Budapest where she can hopefully assist them in locating Pandora’s box.

What I found especially amusing in this book was how Sabin continually tried to shield Gwen from his darker side when her dark side was even darker than his. When she first tells him to shut Doubt up, he can’t believe that she can distinguish the two voices. Gwen’s disgruntlement when Doubt speaks to her is pretty freaking funny.

Sabin helps Gwen discover and embrace who she truly is. When they discover that her father is one of the Lords worst enemy, Sabin just about goes crazy. All her life, Gwen has kept the hope in her heart that she was more like her Angel father than her harpy mother. That dream goes up in smoke when she realizes who her father is.

The Darkest Whisper takes the reader another step into this interesting world that Showalter has created. There are many other characters that are in this world that really make you wonder how they would get a HEA. I can’t wait to see how she pulls it off.

Rating: 4.25 out of 5.

I was at Borders last week and was so excited when I saw this book. I love the series!

Sorry, I didn’t read the review because I like to be surprised, but I can’t wait to read the book! Glad to see you gave it a 4.25.

Wow, this book sounds good. I’m curious, I wish I didn’t have so many other books to read. Good review though.

  3. I haven’t read anything by Showalter yet but I do have her first book on my TBR list. I’ve heard really great things about this series.

  4. Those of you that haven’t read this series should really give it a try! Especially if you’re into paranormal. The whole Pandora’s Box premise really makes the series good.
