My friends! How are you? How was your week? Whatcha up to? Tell me everything.
So as I said in my post a few days ago it was a nutty week and I didn’t post much – hopefully that will change for the upcoming week.
Talking to Christine earlier this past week and discussing our massive TBR’s I made a decision. The decision is that since I tend to ignore older books on my tbr (not intentionally there are just so many good ones that get released that I tend to forget the poor lonely ones on my shelves) I’m going to try to read 1 book a week that has been on my shelf for 3 months or longer. And there are plenty to choose from. The keyword here is try. We’ll see how it works out.
My girls went to one of the local high schools yesterday and they had a 3 hour cheer clinic with a little demonstration at the end. It was so cute and the girls had a great time. They now want to be cheerleaders and learn how to do all the acrobatics that go with it. We’ll see how they feel about it when they get into high school which is a while away now…thank heavens.
My youngest was sick this past Monday so that gave me plenty of time to read as she slept most of the day while I was home with her. I thanked her for being ill on a Monday since I had already cleaned the house on the weekend I didn’t have chores to do and could relax.
First up was Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione. Great book. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. Luckily I didn’t have to. If you haven’t started the series yet you should do so now. lol I liked the first book but this was fabulous and I can’t wait until the next one -and luckily we don’t have to wait long since it comes out on March 31, 2009.
Next up was Slave by Cheryl Brooks. After reading Ms. Moonlight’s review and seeing that Jenb loved it as well I decided to dive in. I’m sorry to say that this one just didn’t work for me. It was a good story and that’s what kept me reading but there were several things that just rubbed me wrong. It’s a first person pov which I’m not a fan of but have read some really great books lately that have it so I was open to it. This was an great example of why I don’t like them. The endless thinking and self examination in the book was driving me slightly batty. Captain Jack wasn’t a character that I enjoyed and having only her pov was frustrating at times. I wanted to get to know the male character, Cat, more as well but that didn’t happen – couldn’t happen with the pov. There were a few other things that didn’t appeal to me but I’ll stop there. 🙂
After that I read Collision Course by K.A. Mitchell. I really liked this book a lot. A great m/m story of Aaron, an independent paramedic and Joey, a accident prone man who seems to go through men like bottles of water. I thought the story was wonderfully well written, the sex was hot and the characters were likable.
Next I read Delicious by Sherry Thomas and it was just that…delicious. I loved it. I read some reviews when it first came out last fall and they were definitely mixed on the like/dislike scale. I’m definitely in the like category. A wonderful story of love found and then lost and then found again. I found myself smiling for a couple of hours after I read the last page.
Cowgirl Up and Ride by Lorelei James was my next read. This is book 3 in her Rough Riders series. The story of AJ who has been in love with Cord since she was a little girl. While it was more like hero worship when she was a kid now that she’s an adult she’s got her eye on the prize. But with Cord pretty much off relationships after his wife left him AJ has to be satisfied with just sex. Oh darn. lol Fortunately there was a good story in here as well as all that sex and I also got to know the rest of Cord’s extended family. I’m axious to read more.
Amber Eyes by Maya Banks was my next book. Good book – I’ll post a review this week.
Angels’ Pawn by Nalini Singh was next. The prequel to Angels’ Blood was great. It left me with some great questions about Ashwini but I have no doubt that Nalini will answer them eventually. And Janvier? omg – totally hot vamp. lol
Kiss of Fate by Deborah Cooke is one I read for The Book Binge so I’ll let you know when my review posts.
Last was Phantom Lover by Rebecca York that I read for the Year of the Category Challenge so you won’t get that review until next week, sorry. 🙂
Happy Reading!
Wow, what a great selection of books you’ve been reading, Tracy!
I happy to hear the Demonica series keeps getting better. I started the first one today and am enjoying it, and won DU a couple of weeks ago at AmyC’s, so it’s waiting on my TBR shelf!
Looking forward to reading your reviews of Kiss of Fate and Amber Eyes.
And yes, Janvier, mmm…Can’t wait for more about him and Ashwini.
Oh, man, Janvier is a HOTTIE w/ a capital H! 🙂
I haven't been reading too much, which sucks. This last week was a bit crazy & I just wanted to run away.
However, did read Hunted by PC & Kristin Cast tonight. What an awesome book. You know, I think it's a shame that YA books are so overlooked by adults, because they're seriously missing out on some wonderful books. I'm a PC Cast fan-girl though, so there you go. 🙂
If you're interested, I've got Katie Allen over on G&BB. She's such a sweetheart & her books are good! Yay! 🙂
Hope you have a great Monday!
Hey Tracy,
I tired a similar thing like that (it was Anna’s idea first) to read books that had been on my TBR for a certain period of time or longer. I picked 10 to read by the end of the year. I did get 6 of them read. I should do that too. But not one a week, maybe two a month.
You read a few books I have on the TBR shelf.
Busy week for me too. Again I’m amazed by how many books you’ve read. HO-LEE! I too am anxious to see what you thought about Maya Banks’ book. I was disappointed in the last one of hers I read.
Renee – Thanks! Yes, the Demonica series is a good one. I’ll have to go back and look to see how I rated the first one but I’m thinking it got a good score. DU got a great score!
I can’t wait to read more about Ashwini and Janvier either. I wonder how long we’ll have to? 🙂
BL – Total Hottie. Sex appeal by the bucket load.
Sorry to hear last week was crazy. I’ll have to hop over and say hi to KA on your blog.
This last book you read by Cast…is it from a series? If I read them would I start with that one? It’s funny – I don’t even think of YA – maybe because I never read it – even as a teen. I went straight for my mom’s books and never looked back. 🙂
Amy – I’m hoping the tbr thing will work. I mean it’s a bit ridiculous! lol And there are wonderful books there but they just don’t draw me as much as the newer ones do so I’m trying to make the effort. We’ll see.
Good for you for getting those 6 read! Maybe I should pick out a month’s worth at a time. hmmm…
Rosie – How the new position? Is it going well? I can’t wait to hear all about it. The Amber Eyes review will post Tuesday – just fyi. 🙂
Wow, I’m sooo envious Renee!! Someone has been reading a LOT!!!
I guess I have to start the Demonica series now. I’ve seen lots of review of it and everyone seems to enjoy it so much!
I’m also curious about Collision Course!
and good luck on reading 1 book from your TBR pile each week! Go for it 😀
Nath – see my next post-good reason to start the series! 🙂
Collision Course was good! And from what I can see it’s gotten great reviews.
I’m gonna need that good luck to get through my tbr! lol I still need to read my re-read book for this month! lol
Sorry Slave didn’t work for you. It’s definitely not for everyone. I’m one of the rare few that loved it.
I really enjoyed Collision Course as good gay fiction, but I didn’t buy the romance. I just don’t see Aaron and Joey staying together. I think their relationship is toxic. Sad, huh? LOL But absolutely incredible writing and SMOKIN’ hot love scenes.
Slave is certainly……..different isn’t it? There were a few things that I thought very weird and I’d just as soon do without – the outfit that Cat wore for one thing. When I read a book, I like to ‘picture’ it in my head and that was a picture I could have done without. The nose sex scene to was just….odd!
Jenb – IDK Collision Course really worked for me. Aaron was such a prick at times but he found someone he could be himself with and I think that Joey balanced Aaron out. I didn’t really look at the book as a romance but definitely a relationship that would continue.
Kristie – yes, the nose sex was more than a little odd and I kind of skimmed that part.
For me it was more Jack’s pov that did me in. Also there were a thousand exclamation points which were definitely not needed imho. (and this coming from a girl who loves exclamation points!) lol
But as I said I really liked the premise of the book, I just wasn’t a fan of the style of writing.
