Review: Bought: One Night, One Marriage by Natalie Andersen

When Cally wins a date with sexy tycoon Blake McKay, she’s mortified! Aware of her plain looks, she steers clear of good-looking men—and this guy is way off the handsome scale….Blake can see there’s a fiery, passionate woman beneath Cally’s cool exterior, so he buys another date with her. This time he’s going to be calling the shots, and he’ll give her a night she’ll never forget! But neither has bargained on one night becoming one marriage….

I really enjoyed this novel. Cally had some of the same insecurities other Presents’ heroines have, but I think the flow of the story and the strength of the relationship worked much better than many others.

Cally’s best friend “buys” a date with Blake for her at a charity auction and she’s totally mortified. When she was younger her selfish mother “bought” her a boyfriend and Cally is really sensitive to the issue now. She tries to tell Blake not to bother with the weekend he owes her, but he’s immediately intrigued by her and insists.

They end up spending the weekend together. Blake can’t stop thinking about Cally afterwards, but she’s determined to stay away from him – until she turns up pregnant and Blake demands she marry him.

I think one of the things that really worked for me in this novel is Cally’s vulnerability about the pregnancy. Because of some medical issues she didn’t think she’d ever be able to get pregnant. So when she finds out she is, she has a hard time accepting it. There’s one particular scene I found really heart-wrenching.

Of course, this is a Presents novel so the asshat hero/dishrag heroine quotient is pretty high, but I think the sweetness of the story and the emotional connection made up for some of it.

    I love the Bought books.
I have a subscription to the Presents line, and there are about 50 of them sitting in my room that I have not even read yet. I need to hop to it.
I can read a Presents book in one sitting so I SHOULD be able to get through them.
