Broken by Megan Hart

My name is different every month—Brandy, Honey, Amy…sometimes Joe doesn’t even bother to ask—but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I’m called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing, always leaves me itching for more in those long weeks until I see him again.
My real name is Sadie, and once a month over lunch Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn’t know is that, in my mind, I’m the star of every X-rated one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I’m practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life. I know it’s wrong. I know my husband wouldn’t understand. But I can’t stop. Not yet.

Wow. Two reviews from me in one week. Never thought I’d see this happen.

Chantal reviewed this book her blog. Her review made me order the book. Since she does a run down of the plot, I’ll go and dive into what I liked and disliked.

What I liked: The sex scenes were H.O.T. I admit to rereading a couple a few times already. I also like how she captured the attitude of each girl and then flowed back into Sadie’s point view. The only other erotica I’ve read is Lora Leigh. What was different for me in Broken, is there are no plugs or vibes involved. No ass smacking. Just sex. Which to me was kind of nice, different but still hot.

I liked Sadie. She is one amazing woman. In the book, she’s married to Adam. He’s paralyzed from a skiing accident. She loves her husband very much but sometimes she’s angry with him. He rarely makes loves to her and hardly talks to her anymore. Not like they used to. Once on a while, Adam will kiss her but that’s really the extent of their intimacy. There is once scene, where she cries while getting massage. It’s the first time someone has touched her in years. I wanted to hug her.

Her relationship with Joe is non physical. They meet once a month for lunch. He tells her stories about his sexual adventures. This is how Sadie lives out her fantasies. Part of her feels guilty for looking forward to meeting Joe. Adam even notices she dresses up these days but never asks why.

Joe. He’s hot. He’s sexy. He smells like soap. I knew a guy like once. I loved the way he smelled so that made me have a soft spot for Joe. Though he’s been with a lot of women, he doesn’t lead them on. He doesn’t make false promises. I should hate Joe for being a little slut puppy but for some reason, I don’t hate Joe.

What I disliked: I didn’t dislike anything really. There were a few scenes that made me upset. For example, there are scenes where Adam is really nasty to her. He’s frustrated and he lashes out at Sadie. She does her best not to let it bother her but you can only take so much before you fight back.

I was frustrated that Sadie just wanted her husband back and for a while it’s like Adam doesn’t really try. Towards the end it seems like they have a chance. That they are both trying to reconnect.

Also there is a scene towards the end with Sadie and Joe. I don’t want to say much but I did want to smack Sadie. But… I do think she did the right thing. She needed to find herself.

I’m not sure about the ending. I liked it but I feel bad for liking it. Again, I can’t really write it down cause then I’ll spoil the book.

Would I recommend it: Yes I would. It’s a very good book. I really enjoyed it. Enough to visit Megan Hart’s website to look for more. Actually, there is a book that comes before this one, Dirty. (Chantal, it’s Dan and Elle’s book.) The two main characters in Dirty make cameo’s in Broken. Elle is Sadie’s patient. So yeah, this one is on my wish list.

  1. Oh and I wanted to add about Joe. I felt bad for him when he was listing Pricilla’s likes and dislikes when she couldn’t even name one about him. Then when he was with.. Sassy?, How for once someone took care of him. It kind of made me want someone for Joe. Maybe that’s why he was sleeping around. Looking for that someone. My take anyways.

  2. I have gotten out of reading alot of romance/ erotica type books over the years. But this book actually sounds interesting. I just might pick it up.

  3. Crystal- I thought it was really. I liked it actually had a good plot and wasn’t just sex. Let us know how you like it if you do pick it up.

  4. Great review, it sounds interesting. I havent read straight out erotica (unless you count the newer Anita Blake novels lol)
