Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Character: Schuyler Van Alen
Series:
Blue Bloods, Book 1

Within New York City’s most elite families, there lurks a secret society of celebrated Americans whose ancestors sailed on the Mayflower. They are the powerful and the wealthy—and in fact, they are not human. They are the Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires. Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner—and happy that way. But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler’s life changes dramatically. She has a mosaic of blue veins on her arms, and craves raw meat. The death of a popular girl from Duchesne is surrounded by a mystery that haunts her. And strangest off all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her. Schuyler wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

My friend Theresa has been on my behind about getting this book read. She read this series a while ago and has loved it. I finally picked it up last week but did so half heartedly. It wasn’t until this weekend that I really dug into the story and to say that I’m obsessed with this series is putting it mildly.

Theresa, I give you permission to slap me silly when next we should meet. =P

This book was good. Like, hecka good and if you haven’t read this series, you should fix that soon kind of good. I’ve read a lot of great books right now but none of them hold a candle to the obsession that has taken over my body while reading this book. This book, the characters and the story just knocks you on your butt, it’s so good.

This book follows Schuyler Van Alen as her life takes a change she wasn’t expecting. She’s thrown into the Blue Bloods world and is struggling to find her place in this new world. She’s a Van Alen and in the past, that would have meant something but now, in this new world that she lives in, the Van Alen name doesn’t mean much. After all, her family is broke and she doesn’t live the life of the rich and famous like most all of the Blue Bloods that she knows.

Like Jack and Mimi Force.

Jack and Mimi Force are twins who are richer than rich and the most popular kids at school. Schuyler doesn’t fit in with them and doesn’t really care to because she’s got her friends Oliver and Dylan to keep her happy….but after a chance meeting with Jack at a club, Schuyler can’t help but wonder if Jack is interested …in her.

As Schuyler (pronounced Skyler) tries to adjust to her new life, the story takes off. There’s someone or something rather that is out there killing Blue Bloods and Schuyler is committed to finding out just who and what that is. Schuyler’s mother is in a coma and won’t come out of it and man but I’m curious to see how all of that comes together.

Just when you think you have a handle of everything in this book, De La Cruz throws you for a loop and has you jumping through hurdles to find out everything there is to know about the Blue Bloods. This book reminds me of a vampire type Gossip Girl but…better and cleaner, less sleazy and all that.

I really enjoyed getting to know both Schuyler and Oliver. I’m curious about Jack though I’m not necessarily in his camp right now. Things are off with him, not like he’s off his rocker or anything but more like, why do you like Schuyler? Seriously…I don’t get it.

The series starts off with a bang in this book and I couldn’t be more excited about reading more. If you haven’t read this series then I strongly suggest you add it to your list of books to read soon, you won’t regret it. I adore this series already!

Read this book!

  1. See this series, the series I asked you about, the Vampire Academy, the Morganville series…they all blend together as one in my mind. I haven’t read any of them.

There are so many I don’t know which ones are good and which ones not to waste my time with.

This Blue Blood series was actually the one I least wanted to read. But if you liked it…maybe I’ll give it a try.

  2. See, that was the thing about it too. I didn’t want to read this series at all. It sat on my bookshelves for months before I picked it up and even when I finally did pick it up, I was hesitant. I’m not even sure why but I’m obsessed with this series right now. I must know everything.

My friends and I are enjoying this one a great deal. =) Let me know if you decide to read it, we could discuss!

  3. This series is good. Like you said alot of hurdles and loops that De La Cruz throws at ya but they are interesting indeed! Ollie is stll my fave. Love me some Ollie or as you would say I heart Ollie!!
