Monthly Reads: December 2012.

Posted January 8, 2013 by Rowena in Features | 7 Comments

Rowena: And we’re back…December was a pretty crappy reading month for me but it’s not surprising considering the holidays and wrapping up our 2012 basketball club season and all of that other stuff.

Here’s a list of the books that I read in December:

  1. Lying in Bed by Jo Leigh (2.75 out of 5)
  2. The Lady Most Willing by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway (3 out of 5)
  3. The Kiss Off by Sarah Billington (4 out of 5)
  4. The Perks of Seducing a Wallflower by Tessa Dare (4 out of 5)
  5. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams (2 out of 5)
  6. Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips (4.5 out of 5)
  7. Losing It by Cora Carmack (4 out of 5)

My favorite read for December is probably Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips.  I really enjoyed the characters and the romance.  I thought that Cara was a strong and smart heroine that was very likable and Mike was hot and sexy and everything I like in a hero.  My least favorite read of the month goes to Taking Chances by Molly McAdams.  I’m not against the whole love triangle bit but this love hexagon crap going on in that book just didn’t work for me.  I went into it, thinking that I was going to really like it but that wasn’t the case at all…it wasn’t my cup of tea and that sucked because I was really looking forward to it.  Oh well.

Holly: December was a pretty good reading month for me. I managed 16 books. That’s not too shabby considering I hosted Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Day brunch and Family Day (the day after Christmas) for about 25 people this year.

I continued on with my Kristen Ashley binge. I keep saying I’m done with her, then I take a break for a week or two and get sucked back in. I need an intervention.

  1. Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley
  2. Romancing the Holiday anthology
  3. A Gift for All Seasons by Karen Templeton
  4. Fortune’s Cinderella by Karen Templeton
  5. Alone Time (Visits to Petal, part 1) by Lauren Dane
  6. Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley
  7. Fiery Temptations by Victoria Davies
  8. Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley (re-read)
  9. The Gamble by Kristen Ashley (re-read)
  10. Giving Chase by Lauren Dane (re-read)
  11. Golden Trail by Kristen Ashley
  12. For You by Kristen Ashley
  13. At Peace by Kristen Ashley
  14. With Everything I Am by Kristen Ashley
  15. Losing It by Cora Carmack
  16. Already Home by Vicki Lewis Thompson

My favorite read of the month was Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley. Of The ‘Burg series, that’s the best one, IMO. I didn’t enjoy the other books nearly as much. Honorable mention goes to A Gift for All Seasons by Templeton. I love her stories. My least favorite read was With Everything I Am by Ashley.

This month, we’re giving away:

Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips
Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley (e-book only)

Monthly Reads: November 2012

Posted December 16, 2012 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Rowena: After this monthly reads post, we are finally all caught up.  I know, you’re probably sick to death of reading what Holly and I have read over the last few months.  Some of you might not even give a damn but well, thanks for putting up with it. =)  This is the last post until next month, I promise!  In November, I read a lot of books that I got for review and some of them I loved, some of them I just liked.

Here’s what I read in November.

My favorite read of the month was probably a tie between Sorority Sisters by Claudia Welch and One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean.  Both books were fabulous and I can’t recommend them enough.  My least favorite read of the month would probably go to Secrets and Lies by Ella Monroe.  I didn’t hate it but there were a few things that I didn’t like and compared to all of the books, I liked that one the least.
Holly: I binged on Kristen Ashley books in November. I blame Ames for this. She talked me into reading my first KA book and I couldn’t stop after that.

  1. Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley
  2. The Gamble by Kristen Ashley
  3. Wild Man by Kristen Ashley
  4. Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley
  5. Lady Luck by Kristen Ashley
  6. Rock Chick by Kristen Ashely
  7. Breathe by Kristen Ashley
  8. Never Enough by Lauren Dane (re-read)
  9. Inside Out by Lauren Dane (re-read)
  10. Heart Quest by Robin D. Owens (re-read)
  11. Heart Dance by Robin D. Owens (re-read)
  12. Exposure by Susan Andersen (re-read)

Of the KA books I read, I’d have to say The Gamle and Sweet Dreams were my favorites. My least favorites were Rock Chick and pretty much the entire Dream Man series. And..ok, kind of all of them were my least favorite. These books are…bad. And good. And terrible and awful. And wonderful. Srsly.

Monthly Reads: October 2012

Posted December 15, 2012 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Rowena: October wasn’t a good reading month for me.  I was wrapped up in a bunch of personal family business that reading took a back seat for most of the month but I did manage to get some reading done.

Here’s what I read in October.

Of the books that I read in the month of October, my favorite goes to Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen.  I didn’t really count Guys Do Not Do Secret Santa by Miranda Kenneally because it’s not a full length book.  It’s a short story that I devoured and adored but it’s not an in depth story so it doesn’t really count.  Keeping the Moon was an enjoyable read and I loved it, like I do most of Dessen’s stories.  My least favorite read of the month would probably be Better than Chocolate by Sheila Roberts.  I liked it but I liked it the least of the other books that I read in October.

Holly: I did more re-reading in October. The truth is, I do a lot of re-reading when I don’t have a lot of time to read. Mostly because I breeze through comfort reads, but also because I can’t help myself. It’s a sickness. I should probably seek help for that.

  1. The Seduction of Elliot McBride by Jennifer Ashley
  2. Heart Fate by Robin D Owens (re-read)
  3. Lean on Me by HelenKay Dimon
  4. Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips
  5. One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean
  6. Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning (re-read)
  7. The Dark Highlaner by Karen Marie Moning (re-read)
  8. Heart of Danger by Lisa Marie Rice
  9. Dark Nights by Christine Feehan (re-read)
  10. Heart Duel by Robin D Owens (re-read)

My favorite reads of the month were The Seduction of Elliot McBride and One Good Earl Deserves a Lover. Both were extremely well done. Not that I expected less from MacLean and Ashley. They’re both tremendous talents. My least favorite read of the month was Heart of Danger. That book was way over the top. And kind of a hot mess. Yikes.

Monthly Reads: September 2012

Posted December 14, 2012 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Rowena: September was a good reading month for me.  I read a lot of books that I liked, old books that I loved and books that were so-so but it’s all good because considering the slump I’m in now, I’m just happy that I read as much as I did back then.

Here’s what I read in September.

My favorite reads were probably my re-reads of the Karen Marie Moning books (Kiss of the Highlander, The Dark Highlander) that I did for my book club. It was so good to revisit my favorite characters from this series.  I’d completely forgotten how much I loved me some MacKeltar twins and I’d forgotten how enjoyable Kiss of the Highlander was.  My preferred twin has always been Dageus and he still is but I came to love Drustan a lot more than I remembered.  My least favorite read goes to Finally Home by Helen Scott Taylor.  It just didn’t work for me.

Holly: I’m dubbing September the month of re-reads. I need to work on reading more new releases and re-reading less. Probably. Someday.

  1. Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas
  2. After the Night by Linda Howard (re-read)
  3. Tart by Linda Howard
  4. Sway By Linda Howard
  5. Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis
  6. Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs (re-read)
  7. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (re-read)
  8. Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (re-read)
  9. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
  10. HeartMate by Robin D Owens (reread)
  11. Tears of the Renegade by Linda Howard (reread)

My favorite reads of the month were Tart and Dream Lake. Since all I really did was re-read, I didn’t have a least favorite.

How was your September in books? Do you even remember? LOL.

Monthly Reads: August 2012

Posted December 13, 2012 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Rowena: August was a busy month for me.  I had two trips to Vegas for family vacations and a friend’s wedding but I did manage to get some reading done despite the chaos that was August for me.

Here’s what I read back in August.

My favorite read of the month goes to Easy by Tammara Webber.  It was such a good story with characters that I came to love and I couldn’t love it more than I did.  I re-read the book last month and I loved it all over again.  Such a wonderfully romantic story about new adults that had me grinning like a crazy lady.  My least favorite reads of the month ties and go to both Narc by Crissa-Jean Chappell and Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl.  They both just didn’t work for me.  The story dragged in one and I never warmed up to any of the main characters enough to like them in both books and well, I wasn’t a fan of either book.

Holly: August was a much better month for me. I read 19 books.

  1. Heart Search by Robin D. Owens
  2. The Cutting Edge by Linda Howard (re-read)
  3. Down to Business by HelenKay Dimon
  4. Someone to Watch Over Me by Judith McNaught (re-read)
  5. Running Wild by Linda Howard
  6. Cover of Night by Linda Howard (re-read)
  7. Overload by Judith McNaught (re-read)
  8. Island of Secrets by Janni Nell
  9. Almost Forever by Linda Howard (re-read)
  10. Undercover Alliance by Lilly Cain
  11. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
  12. Bluebird Winter by Linda Howard (re-read)
  13. Heartbreaker by Linda Howard (re-read)
  14. A Notorious Countess by Julie Anne Long
  15. The Way Home by Linda Howard (re-read)
  16. The Short and Fascinating Tale of Angelina Whitcombe by Sabrina Darby
  17. Against the Rules by Linda Howard (re-read)
  18. His Voice, His Command by Vonna Harper

As you can see, I did another binge re-read of Linda Howard. I do this every so often. Howard is a master. I read one and I just can’t stop. Re-reads aside, I think my favorite read was The Notorious Countess Confesses. Long writes such beautiful historicals. My least favorite read was Beautiful Disaster. I actually enjoyed the first half of it, but the 2nd half went off the rails on a crazy train. It was bad.
