Federal Prosecutor L.C. Mackay couldn’t cruise the bars—that was too dangerous for someone in her position. Instead she decided to check the dating websites. Not for dates; she was too busy for relationships, especially in the middle of one of the biggest trials of her career. She just wanted sex. Hot, lusty, soul-shattering sex. The perfect way to de-stress and relax.
L.C. Mackay, known as Lacey to her family, made it a point to keep her private and professionals lives separate. She didn’t want anyone knowing exactly who she was under the steel of her Federal Prosecutor demeanor. But what was underneath was a just a woman. A woman who wanted to be intimate with someone, but she just couldn’t date anyone. When she finds Rick’s profile she hesitates but decides that she needs to take the plunge.
When Rick arrives he’s everything that she hoped for in a bed partner and more. But it doesn’t end there. Lacey and Rick find a connection to each other that might have started with just sex, but ends up going much deeper.
I honestly expected this to just be a highly erotic story with lots of blistering sex scenes. It was that, but it was also more. Ms. Devereaux gives us a story that includes a relationship but also a bit of the stresses that Lacey was facing. She was in a huge trial that involved a Mexican drug cartel and because of that was constantly alert to danger – for both her and the witnesses she was protecting. With seeing both the personal and professional side of Lacey it showed the depth of character that I love seeing in a book.
