It’s been a year since Ivy’s boyfriend, Tristan, died. They’ve both moved on—Tristan to the other side of the afterlife, and Ivy to sweet, dependable Will. Now Ivy’s heading to Cape Cod, hoping to leave the horror of last summer behind. She wants nothing more than to lie on the beach, sip lemonade, and hang out with her friends.
But then a car crash ends Ivy’s life.
As she floats to the beyond, looking down on the life she’s left behind, Tristan breathes life back into her with a passionate kiss. She wakes up in the hospital, surrounded by Will and her family, but all she can think about is the love that she lost.
But memories aren’t all that’s come back from the past. And this time, Ivy’s not sure love will be enough to save her.
I was already a good chunk of the way into this book when I realized that I was reading a book that was part of a series and when I looked it up, I was disappointed in myself for not realizing that this is actually Book 4 in the Kissed an Angel series. I was almost done with the book when I realized that I have Books 1 & 2 in my TBR pile and didn’t even know.
Yeah, I didn’t even bother to check if this book was part of a series, I just read the blurb and jumped right in.
I’m not really sorry that I did because Chandler did a great job of filling in the blanks for me and while the book started out a bit confusing, after a few chapters of getting my feel of the way and the who of things, the story turned out to be quite good.
So in this story, we have the main character Ivy trying to put the pieces of her life back together again after the death of her boyfriend and love, Tristan. She’s trying to move on with her new boyfriend Will but a part of her is stuck in the past with her one true love, Tristan.
Now, I didn’t know Tristan and I didn’t know what happened before so there were times throughout the reading of this book that I wanted to throttle Ivy because the whole back and forth thing she had going with Tristan wasn’t fair to Will and Will, the poor guy, gets upset and yet is patient with her because he loves her. Love sure does put you through the ringer and Will can attest to that because being with Ivy was not easy but because of his feelings for her, he tried to help her in any way that he could.
But then Ivy gets into this car accident and is rushed to the hospital. She’s pretty much a goner but then Tristan arrives and Ivy is so happy to see him that they end up kissing the heck out of each other and Ivy later finds out that Tristan gave her the breath of life and I guess that’s a big no no as far as the big Guy upstairs is concerned (which makes total sense) because now Ivy is back on earth without Tristan…again.
But while Ivy is in the hospital, she comes across a guy that was fished out of the ocean and can’t remember a thing. It is through this guy that she starts to come alive again since Tristan’s death. Helping Guy (that’s what they were calling him since he can’t remember who he is or where he’s from or anything, really) made Ivy come back to life and she soon realizes that things from her past are far from over.
This was one of those dark reads that I wasn’t sure I was going to like because it was so dark but I’m so glad that I read it because I came to love Ivy and all of her grief. I came to love her friends, even Beth when Beth was being a brat and oh did I come to love both Guy and Will. I thought that both guys were mysterious and sexy in their own way and it made me a little jealous that Ivy had both of these guys loving the heck out of her. She may not have deserved Will but she sure did make sense with Guy.
This story was a wonderful way to spend a weekend and I’m so glad that I read it. The characters were all charming in their own, dark ways and the story itself is written in a way that will have you turning the pages all night long because you’re not going to want to stop reading. There will be times when you’re going to want to strangle the characters in the book but when you’re done reading it, you’ll be glad you finished it. This book was a good one and I’m anxious to read more from this series and from this author.
..and that’s your scoop!
