When a werewolf and the beautiful siren he once saved meet again, resistance is futile…

As Pack Protector, Kane McGraw never gets involved with the victims he saves. But Lilly Gideon may be the one exception. She has intrigued him ever since he helped free her from a religious compound called Sanctuary. So when he learns that she's still in danger, he can't stay away—not even if it means exposing Lilly to the fanatics she's trying to escape.

Years of psychological torture have left Lilly without the ability to control her shifter nature. Any man she touches is driven mad by an all-consuming desire. Though she wants Kane more than any man, she's forced to deny him the release they most crave. That is, until he decides it's time to take matters—and her—into his own hands….

Lilly was imprisoned when she was just 15 and stayed that was for 15 years. The man who claimed to be her father (but wasn’t) starved her and the doctors at a place called “Sanctuary” experimented on her constantly. They thought she was an abomination because she was a shape-shifter.

Now Lilly is free but there are several Sanctuary members who were not caught when the place was invaded and shut down. Lilly’s twin brother seeks protection and receives it in the form of Kane McGraw. He’s more than happy to protect Lilly…especially as he’s been attracted to her since the first moment he saw her.

Kane drives Lilly across country to where his family lives in New York. She’s skiddish and frightened and believes that the wolf that lives inside her is a monster. She wants to never shift again but Kane has other ideas. While protecting her he gets her to see that she’s not the monster they brainwashed her into believing she is. As Lilly starts to gain some confidence she wants to act on the attraction she feels for Kane but Kane feels he’s taking advantage of her. When strangers show up in his hometown asking questions about Lilly Kane is put on alert and a larger protection detail shows up. Lilly is more confident now, however, and she’s not about to sit back and let life lead her around – she want to take control and that means with her life and with Kane.

I love stories where the characters come into their own in some fashion. This was one of those books as we saw Lilly go from a frightened shell of a woman to a much stronger, and definitely more confident woman.

The love story here was interwoven with both Lilly as a woman and Lilly as something to be protected – a job. This made Kane stop his actions at times as he felt he was taking advantage of Lilly when she was vulnerable. Lilly didn’t seem to mind, that’s for sure, but Kane was an upstanding and honorable guy and I appreciated his unwillingness to step over a line.

The story was very sweet. Kane and Lilly were quite perfect together and I loved the entire McGraw family and all their boisterous ways. Whiddon always comes through with readable paranormal stories and this one was no different.

Book Watch: Wolf Whisperer by Karen Whiddon

Book Cover

I recently started reading paranormal romance again after a long – almost 3 year – hiatus. I’m dipping my toes in slowly, so I don’t get scared off again. I’m still not a big fan of vampires, but I love shifters.

I’m not a huge fan of dystopian novels, but I have read and enjoyed a few. After reading this blog post at the Mills&Boon blog, I’m really curious about Wolf Whisperer.

What do you think?

In a world where betrayal and deceit are everywhere, can love conquer all? Don’t miss this latest romance in Karen Whiddon’s popular Pack series.

Since his mate’s death, the only thing that’s kept pack protector Mac Lamonda going is the search for his missing children. His hatred for the rival clan who took them is legendary. But when a beautiful shifter saves him from an ambush, Mac enters into a bond that is both seductive…and dangerous.

Rehabilitating abused canines is Kelly McKenzie’s life calling. And because of who she is, she distrusts everything Pack. So when the handsome protector’s arrival at her sanctuary coincides with news of her sister’s disappearance, Kelly is torn between suspicion…and desire.

Now, Kelly and Mac must join and fight together. For, if they fail, their loved ones will become the victims of an unimaginable evil.

I think I’m going to try it.

Anyone else read it?

This book is available from Harlequin Nocturne. You can buy it here or here in e-format.

What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Posted January 12, 2009 by Tracy in Features | 11 Comments

Well it’s been a pretty slow week around the old homestead. Work was a little hectic because our annual meeting was today and I had to get things ready for that – never fun.

The big news in our house was my little one losing her first tooth! lol Excitement all around. That girl can’t stop showing the world the gap in her face (picture a post or 3 back). omg – the checker at the grocery store, the librarian, the man at the gas station…and on and on. So stinkin funny.

So here’s what I read this week:

Started off with Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian. The 5th book in her Midnight Breed series, and she certainly did not disappoint. It was a great book and I can hardly wait for the next installment!

Next up was a short by Tressie Lockwood called Tempting the Wolf. This was a strange little story about a girl who is very sheltered being, well, stalked is a good word for it. It was just kind of bizarre the way things came about and I wasn’t a fan of her having to lose her virginity in front of a crowd. No thanks.

Next was a book I read for review on The Book Binge called Pieces of My Sister’s Life by Elizabeth Joy Arnold. I loved the writing but I have to say the emotions were crazy out of control. My review will be up soon – I’ll let you all know when.

Let’s see then I read a Nocturne Bite by Karen Whiddon called Mate of the Wolf. This was a were-wolf/vamp story. It was well done but I just don’t usually go for the fall in love in a day scenarios – but that’s just me.

Last up was Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken. I saw info about this book and the 2nd in the series on Amy’s blog and was interested in reading them. Pretty darned good. Fantasy romance with dragon shapeshifters. The thing I found interesting about this novel was that the first story only went til about page 220. Then another story started (one about the hero’s parents from the first story when they were young) and lasted about 120 pages. It was cool to see a little insight into events that were mentioned in the first story playing out in the second. Well done.
(oh and how cool is this? I went on Amy’s site to get her link and she had a review for Dragon Actually that she posted today! woohoo. Here it is!)

Happy Reading!
