They live ordinary lives, but they are extraordinary. They are the Offspring, children of a mysterious experiment gone awry—and they are in terrible danger.
A sexy stranger awakens Amy Shane in the dead of night. Lucas Vanderwyck barely has time to whisper a few words before three men burst into her bedroom and drag him away. But what Lucas reveals shatters Amy’s safe little world forever.Lucas and Amy share a psychic gift—a gift that could put them in mortal danger. And as they share night after night of savage passion, as a shadowy government conspiracy tracks their every move, they will fight to save each other. But only with their powers of second sight can they escape the terror of a perfect darkness.
Here is yet another book I picked up b/c of the cover. The eyes just reached out to me as I was walking down the aisle at B&N. It also caught the attention of my 8 y/o son who is just hypnotized by it. So much so that he actually started to read the blurb before my husband told him “HANDS OFF YOUR MOM’s BOOK” and then to me in a whisper “Your p0rn books”. LOL.
So after the cover caught my eye and I read the back cover, I thought it sounded interesting. I really like a good psychic read. And it started off really good. Lucas breaks into Amy’s house in the middle of the night to tell her she’s in danger. He’s dragged off and Amy is struck dumb.
It all goes downhill from there. This is one of those books that I just couldn’t be bothered with. It really sucks that I read it so close to this one. I’m obviously on a streak of not-so-good reading luck.
I really had to suspend my disbelief while I was reading (more than I normally would, anyway). Amy has a man break into her apartment, give her a name, tell her she’s in trouble only to have a group of armed men break in and take him away. If that’s not enough, no one takes her statement; no one tells her what’s going on. No one tells her anything. Hello 9-1-1?
She goes to the address that she was given by Lucas and the book is all over the place from there. She’s meeting Lucas in her dreams b/c he’s a “dream walker”. She’s one of many that have special abilities and enlists two of her fellow “Offspring” to help spring Lucas. Lucas and Amy don’t meet face to face until (if I remember right) almost 2/3 through the book. Oy.
There’s also lots of shadowy bad guys, a top secret experiment and a whole bunch of other stuff mixed in. I just didn’t buy it, no matter how much I wanted to like it. The premise is most definitely interesting, but I doubt I’ll be picking the next one up.
3 out of 5.
