Mary’s review of Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance by Kristina Wright (editor), Megan Hart (foreword), Victoria Janssen, Lana Fox, Lucy Felthouse, Kate Pearce, Madeline Moore, Nikki Magennis, Ericka Hiatt, Justine Elyot, Delilah Devlin, Shanna Germain, A.D.R. Forte, Craig Sorensen,Kristina Lloyd, Saskia Walker, Sacchi Green, Alana Noël Voth

Supernaturally sensual and captivating, Dream Lover is a feast of fanciful delights. Kristina Wright, editor of the popular Fairy Tale Lust, presents a potent potion of fun and sexy tales filled with male fairies and clairvoyant scientists, as well as darkly erotica tales of ghosts, shapeshifters, and possession. Dream Lover asks the reader to explore the realm of the otherworldly and answer the question . . . who is your dream lover?

Dream Lover is a collection of seventeen quite short but red-hot and steamy stories, each with their own little paranormal twist. From a ghostly encounter with a dead poet to a mermaid and her lost mate, a rainmaker who just needs her man, to dead lovers reuniting through new lovers there’s something for everyone.

When you pick up this collection, be sure to read the foreword by Megan Hart, which is so very well written. I love what she has to say about fantasies and how, “in fantasies, we’re safe.” The experience of imagining the forbidden is so tantalizing, especially when we know it can’t possibly come true. She says that “darker fantasies blend boundaries of reality.”

While I didn’t enjoy every story—there were a couple that kind of creeped me out—there are some that I really love.

DEVIL’S FOOD by Shanna Germain: In a town filled with humans, angels and demon-kind, everyone needs a little something sweet to eat and Lire runs the bakery that fulfills that need. When a man stumbles in her door craving sugar, she satisfies his need. When he returns, she gets to satisfy her own needs. Yahoo, hot bakery sex. Even better when the guy tastes like dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt. I loved the humor in this one and the pure fun Lire has with Thadeous. Plus, there’s a talking toad who just doesn’t know when to shut up.

VANILLA by Victoria Janssen: Two researchers find love in a kitchen which, of course, leads to hot kitchen sex. Woo-hoo! Louisa’s a dedicated researcher looking for tenure and devoting all her energies to her programs. But when she runs across Devlin, a fellow researcher, making cookies in the communal kitchen. As he goes about combining ingredients, including the seeds from a vanilla bean, she senses his sensual pleasure and, drawn in by the scent of vanilla, she makes the first move. This one was sweet, with a bit of geek love.

FOR HUMAN’S, LOVE’S ALL ABOUT WEIGHT by Lana Fox: Hettie inherits a strange bird from her neighbor, a bird that comes with only three instructions: don’t open the cage, don’t sing in front of him, and don’t ever kiss him. Of course, she does all three and wakes up to find the cage empty and a birdman sitting at the end of her bed. This leads to a bit of flying and a balancing act in a tree and… well, it’s interesting to say the least. I liked how the birdman was written to be very bird-like including molting and migrating. His devotion to Hettie is a little saccharine but, considering she saved him, understandable.

FOLLY by Kate Pearce: Rose is drawn to a crumbling old house and, once she finally gives in and goes through the gate, she finds a carving of the most beautiful man she’s ever seen. And he’s talking to her. Says he’s been calling to her. All he asks is a kiss, which Rose gives and nearly face-plants into the wall he’s carved on. Her kiss sets him free for the night (ooh, what a night!) but he can only be truly free with the sacrifice of a life. I liked this one because it was more like a legend and I’m a huge sucker for myths and legends.

Overall, Dream Lover has some great stories of lovers reuniting and finding new love, all with paranormal twists.

Guest Review: Passion: Erotic Romance for Women edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel

Tracy’s review of Passion: Erotic Romance for Women edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel

Love and sex have always been intimately intertwined, and Passionshows just how well the two can merge. This collection of steamy stories combines rich and explicit imagery with tales of classic love, letting the best writers of erotic romance bring to life tales that can be read aloud in bed. From long lost lovers reunited to love at first sight to romance rekindled, Passion’s succulent stories quicken heartbeats and appeal to everyone, from the least to the most romantic of souls.

This book is an anthology of 20 short stories about women and passion in a variety of different forms. While most were appealing there were some that I wasn’t quite enamored with for varying reasons. I guess that’s normally how it is with most anthologies that have so many different stories at least for me there are always some I like better than others. Here are a few that really caught my eye:

Dear in the Headlights by Angela Caperton – This was the story of a married couple who were workaholics. Due to their busy schedule they hadn’t had sex in 5 months! Yeah, a damned long time for a married pair. Unfortunately the very sexy date night that the wife has planned gets stalled when the husband runs his car off the road while swerving to miss a something in the road. Well the wife isn’t willing to have all her fun ruined so she decides to take her plan on the road – straight to her husband who’s waiting for the auto club. A very sweet sexy read.

Contentions by Isabelle Gray – This was a humorous yet incredibly hot story about a married couple who are both lawyers. We get to see the two as they meet and how Drake decides that he’s not giving up the fight for her, even when Alicia is determined to keep him at arms length. Being a lawyer there isn’t anything Alicia won’t argue about. A great little story that put a smile on my face.

No Risk, No Reward by Saskia Walker – Girl meets boy while boy is on vacation and they spend weeks together. But boy needs to continue on and though girl thinks she’s ready to let him go, she’s really not. She takes a risk and the reward is the best. Very charming story and of course – hot as well.

Overall a good book to read when you want some short stories filled with lots of sex but romance as well.

Guest Review: Fairy Tale Lust: Erotic Fantasies for Women edited by Kristina Wright

Tracy’s review of Fairy Tale Lust: Erotic Fantasies for Women edited by Kristina Wright

Award-winning novelist and top erotica writer Kristina Wright goes over the river and through the woods to find the sexiest fairy tales ever written. Playfully seductive, supernaturally sensual, and darkly erotic, Fairy Tale Lust showcases clever twists to classic tales and introduces new stories inspired by the ever-popular genre. Here, a walk in the forest is likely to lead to an erotic encounter with a mysterious stranger and the silver light of a full moon might illuminate an orgy of sensual delights! Highly imaginative and downright stimulating, these stories take fairy tale erotica to the next level. Top erotica contributors deliver sizzling work, including Janine Ashbless, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Delilah Devlin, Shanna Germaine, and Saskia Walker.

Fairy Tale Lust takes the fairy tales we’ve heard for years and puts a big ole erotic twist into them. While not a large book it holds 18 short erotic stories from a multitude of authors. The stories range in subject matter but most are well done. There’s really something for everyone in the book ranging from a woman trying to find her perfect mate, to adulterous men, to a little woman on woman action.

A couple of my favorites:

Ducking by Craig Sorenson – a story about a woman who was constantly ducking out of the way so that people wouldn’t notice her. She never considered herself beautiful but was shown by a stranger that she could make the most of what she had and men would find that attractive. Cute and funny.

Gildi and the Unwieldy, Ineffectual Committee of Bears by Jeremy Edwards – This was about a woman in a rock band who was playing for a college. Her room wasn’t ready on campus and all she wanted to do was find a room, dream about college dudes and masturbate. A wonderful take on the Goldilocks story and quite sexy to boot.

There were others that I enjoyed as well and a few that I found a little too dark for my liking. I think what I discovered about myself while reading this book is that while I found all of the stories erotic I decided that I like my fairy tales on the lighter side. Add some humor and I’m good to go. The darker stories I just didn’t find as enjoyable. But I’m one woman and what I like some others may not, and vice versa.

I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for short, erotic reads.
