Guest Review: Dante’s Desire by Amber Skyze

Pleasuring one’s self can be so much fun–especially when you have a one-man audience. Addison loves sex. More importantly, she loves her body and isn’t afraid to make it sing. Add a little voyerism and it’s totally erotic.

Dante’s muse has stalled–until his sexy neighbor starts seducinghim. Through her bedroom window, he watches as her hands caress her tantalizing skin. It’s like something out of a strip club, with his very own personal view. Thanks to this beauty, he is drawing olike wildfire. To thank Addison, Dante sends her an invitation for a single night together. That night may encourage them to draw a new future . . . together.

Dante is a graphic artist living in a community of condos and apartments, some of which are facing each other. Addison is a hard-working computer programer and tech writer for an IT company, likes music of all kinds and likes art as well. It seems that they have lots in common. But way before they know that Addison is undressing each night in front of her bedroom window, pleasuring herself, using her sex toys and “letting it all hang out” for Dante. She knows he is watching. Little did she realize he was not only watching, but he was sketching and taking pictures so that he could keep working. He had an art show coming up and after a terribly frustrating “dry spell” when he just didn’t seem to be able to produce anything he thought worthy of display, Addison’s nightly show “tripped his switch.” They did get together and of course the sizzle and erotic encounters abound.

Now I have to say that I get a bit upset when the first third of the book is living inside the minds of the two main characters. Of course there is the “strip show” each night, and Dante’s reaction to record. But the book is nearly half over before they exchange a word and even then the “getting to know you” part is quite brief. I realize this is a short story so it’s not supposed to be a major literary work. I think the first part of the story is pretty thin. When Addison realizes that Dante has sketched her performance, even leaving her face ambiguous, she is furious. She refuses to take any responsibility for her initial actions, blaming Dante for the sketches and the photos as being an “invasion of her privacy.”

This is erotica, pure and simple and even though there is a story between Addison and Dante, there’s just so much that didn’t seem very realistic. Now I do realize that Addison is, in some ways, off the charts about some stuff and she certainly doesn’t appear to have many hang-ups about her body. Showing up at Dante’s show, staying in the back office, draping herself over the desk naked, does seem a bit “over the top” except in erotic short stories, it would seem. In all fairness, Ms Skyze has taken a very thin plot and story line and done well with it. There’s just so much in her that seems more fantasy than anything else. The reader will have to decide.

So if you want a brief erotic stroke for your libido and some light reading, this is probably for you. I give it a 2.5 out of 5.
