Holly: Man, real life was crazy for me this week. I need a vacation. A reading vacation! I could hole up in a cabin somewhere with no internet or phone service and just read for a week. Sigh. That sounds like heaven.
I finished reading Secret Sisters by Jayne Ann Krentz. The story was interesting and I liked the characters, but the procedural stuff really killed the story for me. I tried to set aside my sheer outrage over the things the cops did and didn’t do, the heroine’s actions, the hero’s bumbling procedural stuff, etc, but I just couldn’t.
The Fifteenth Minute by Sarina Bowen is the latest in her Ivy Years series. I really enjoyed it. As always, the story left me feeling introspective and gave me a lot to think about. Bowen is a serious talent. I ended up re-reading The Year We Hid Away afterward. Just because.
Dragos Goes to Washington is Thea Harrison’s latest Pia and Dragos novellas. As I said in my review, I love these little slice-of-life shorts. Of course reading this prompted a re-read of Dragon Bound. Because I have no self control. Then I read One King’s Way by Samantha Young, which is an On Dublin Street novella that’s set between books 1 and 2. It featured Craig, one of the bartenders Jo and Joss worked with. I thought was short and sweet. That prompted a re-read of Down London Road, which remains my favorite book of the series.
I think I’m going to start November 9 by Colleen Hoover next.
Rowena: I think my reading mojo is starting to come back because I finally finished a book. This week I read True North by Liora Blake and I finished it last night then immediately started the next book in the series, True Devotion. I enjoyed True North. I thought it was a cute romance that was completely believable. I enjoyed both Trevor and Kate. I enjoyed getting to know them and watching them fall in love. The whole book was full of cuteness and when I found out that the second book was about Simon and Devon, I was excited to jump right in. So far, I’m really enjoying it.
After this book, I think I’m going to finish out the series with True Divide and then move on to either November 9 by Colleen Hoover or Walk through Fire by Kristen Ashley. I’m so excited.
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
Books I read this week include:
— It’s In His Heart (A Red River Valley Novel) by Shelly Alexander. This was a pleasant read; it’s a contemporary romance.
— Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History by Antonio Mendez and Matt Baglio for my book group; it was a quick, interesting read.
— a young adult novel which I enjoyed in spite of the fact that it strained credulity ~
Girl, Stolen by April Henry.
— the contemporary romance Dark Wild Night (Wild Seasons) by Christina Lauren; I enjoyed it.
— currently reading Perfect Touch by Elizabeth Lowell.
I always think I’m so “in the know” of all things romance and books and authors but it never fails, I haven’t heard of any of those books you read and some of those authors. Shows how much I know.
I’m going to check those out. Thanks for sharing, Kareni!
With all the books that are being published, I think it’s incredibly difficult to stay ‘in the know’ for any length of time. The first three books were new to me, too. I’ve enjoyed several other Christina Lauren books, and Elizabeth Lowell I’ve been reading since (cough, cough) the eighties!
Oh wow, she’s been around since the 80’s? That’s awesome!
I read Lowell way back when, too. I haven’t picked anything of hers up in years, though. Do you think she’s held up well, Karen?
