Guest Review: Werewolf in Manhattan by Vicki Lewis Thompson

Emma Gavin writes bestselling novels about werewolves, but that doesn’t mean she believes in them — and she certainly doesn’t think she’ll meet one. But that’s exactly what happens when her books catch the attention of a rich and powerful pack of Manhattan Weres, who have kept their existence hidden for centuries. Alarmed by the accuracy of her novels, they’re determined to find out if a renegade is acting as her informant.

Aidan Wallace, the pack leader’s son and heir, knows he’s the wolf for the job, but when he gets close to Emma, they are both surprised by an attraction too strong to deny. To surrender to it, Aidan will have to risk everything— including the security of the pack he’s sworn to protect… 

This was a cute book.  I enjoy books where the hero or heroine is a writer so this one appealed to me.  Emma has unknowingly gotten in over her head by writing a werewolf series that is too close to the truth for the werewolf community to let go by.  They think that she is being fed information by a werewolf informant about their culture and life.  So Aidan Wallace of the Wallace family and clan who runs in NY is sent to follow her and find out who the informant is and bring them to justice.  Turns out that she just has a very good imagination, but by the time Aidan figures that out he is immensely attracted to her.  But she is off limits.

 Besides the fact that she is human, Aidan is expected to make a political marriage and has basically been pledged from birth to Nadia who is the daughter of the big werewolf family in Chicago.  Then Aidan finds out that someone is sending Emma weird letters and he traces them to a pretty unbalanced werewolf, who is also Nadia’s brother.  So now poor Aiden has all sorts of werewolf politic issues.  

Emma was a nice independent heroine.  But at times so strong-willed that she started to annoy me, but then I got over it.  Aidan does a great job as hero trying to do the balancing act of keeping everyone happy except himself.

This was a nice, pretty light paranormal romance.  I think it is a good example of Ms Thompson’s writing.  If you enjoy her writing style or the lighter paranormal stories then this would be a good read for you.  The story was pretty predictable but it was cute.

I give it a 3 out of 5.
