Monthly Reads: January 2011.

Holly: Wow, the month really got away from me. I can’t believe it’s already almost the middle of Feb. January was a pretty good month for me. I re-read Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison 9 times. From cover-to-cover. And I skimmed my favorite parts another 15 times (I’m actually not exaggerating those numbers at all..sad right?). I’m only going to count it once in my monthly reads, but if I counted all the times I read it (cover-to-cover only) I’d be at 25 reads for the month. As it is, I’m at 17.

  1. Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan (re-read) 4.5/5
  2. The Scarletti Curse by Christine Feehan (re-read) 4/5
  3. The Countess by Lynsay Sands 4/5
  4. The Heiress by Lynsay Sands 4.25/5
  5. When Harry Met Molly by Keiran Kramer 3.75/5
  6. Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing A Lord by Sarah MacLean 4/5
  7. Have Baby, Need Billionaire by Maureen Child (dnf) 1/5
  8. Wedding at King’s Convenience by Maureen Child 2/5
  9. Here Comes the Groom by Karina Bliss 4/5
  10. A Woman’s Heart by JoAnn Ross 4.25/5
  11. Fair Haven by JoAnn Ross 4.5/5
  12. Legends Lake by JoAnn Ross 4/5
  13. Wild Heat by Bella Andre 3.5/5
  14. Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison 4.75/5 (or 4.5, I can’t decide)
  15. Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson 4/5
  16. The Ultimate Millionaire by Susan Mallery 3/5
  17. Moon Craving by Lucy Monroe (re-read) 4.5/5

Looking over my list, I feel like I graded a few of these too high. A lot of the 4s should be in the 3-range. I need to think about these a little more before I assign them a grade. My favorite read of the month was, of course, Dragon Bound. I’m sure y’all are tired of hearing about it already, but..wow. Just wow. I also really enjoyed JoAnn Ross’ Castlelough trilogy. I don’t know why I haven’t read more of her novels. She’s fabulous. Of the three, I think Fair Haven was my favorite, though I did really enjoy both the others.

My least favorite read of the month was Have Baby, Need Billionaire. Nothing about the heroine worked for me. Since I didn’t finish the book, I guess I can’t technically call it my worst “read”. Instead I’ll go with Wedding at King’s Convenience. I’m really bummed that Child’s writing has declined so much. She used to be a favorite.

Rowena: I’m with Holly. I can’t believe it’s already almost the middle of February. I read quite a few books in the month of January but most of them were YA titles. I’ve been in one of those YA moods that hasn’t really gotten away from me yet so I’m kind of just riding that YA reading wave. Here’s a list of the books I read:

  1. Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton. (5 out of 5)
  2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. (5 out of 5)
  3. Fall for Anything by Courtney Summers. (4 out of 5)
  4. Legacies (Shadow Grail #1) by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill. (3 out of 5)
  5. The Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder. (4 out of 5).
  6. Falling Under by Gwen Hayes. (3 out of 5)
  7. Unveiled by Courtney Milan. (4.5 out of 5)
  8. One Night is Never Enough by Anne Mallory. (3 out of 5)
  9. Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison. (2 out of 5)
  10. My Only and Only by Kristan Higgins. (3 out of 5)
  11. Evercrossed (Kissed by an Angel, Book 4) by Elizabeth Chandler. (4 out of 5)
  12. Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg. (4.5 out of 5)

My favorite read of January was Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. It was one of those feel good, young adult contemporary romances that was just too sweet for words and the minute I put it down, I wanted to read it again. On the romance side, my favorite read of January was Courtney Milan’s Unveiled. That book rocked my socks! I loved both Ash and Margaret and the way that their story came together was fantastic! I can’t wait to read more books by Courtney Milan. I’ve been hearing such good things about her books and now I know why a lot of readers out there love her, she’s great!

My least favorite read of the month goes to probably Legacies by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill. There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with the book but there wasn’t anything that stood out to me either. The book was just okay and while I’m curious to see where the rest of the series will go, I can’t say that I’m over the moon excited to read them.

Casee: January is the busiest month at work for me. 2011 has been particularly brutal so I only read 4 books. FOUR. Isn’t that horrible?

My favorite in January was Summer at Willow Lake.

My least favorite was Force My Hand.

    I’d like to read Unveiled.

  2. For January, a new author to me Kat Martin called Against The Wind. Loved it 🙂 I’ve also been on a Julia Quinn binge and have read quite a few of hers this month. Splendid was a favorite.

For disappointments, Toni Blake’s Whisper Falls just didn’t do it for me for some reason. Did not like the hero at all the word “Babe” was used SO much!

I’d love to read Unveiled. She’s a new-to-me author as well.

  3. Kim

My favorite January read was A Taste of Desire by Beverley Kendall. It was a great read. Although it wasn’t a January release, I was disappointed in Secrets of a Scandalous Bride by Sophia Nash. I expected more from this story and it was missing something.

I’d like to be in the drawing for Unveiled by Courtney Milan.

  4. I loved Toni Blake’s Whisper Falls. Loved the hero.

I didnt read many books this month but for least liked was Lisa Scottoline, Dead Ringer.

Least favorite is easy: Billionaire, M.D. by Olivia Gates. Favorite would be The Heir by Grace Burrowes. Coincidentally enough, I got both as free ebooks.

Please put my name for Unveiled — willaful

  6. My favorite in January was Bitter Night, an urban fantasy by Diana Pharoah Francis. I love it when I’m so pleasantly surprised by a book. Least favorite was Love Me by Bella Andre, but I got it free from All Romance, so at least it didn’t cost me anything.

I would love to win Unveiled. I just read and loved a novella of hers in an anthology, so now I want to read some more of hers.

  10. January started slow, but turned out to be a great reading month for me. I only read 16 books, but I loved four of those—The Iron Duke (Meljean Brook,) Call Me Irresistible (Susan Elizabeth Phillips,) The Lady Most Likely (anthology,) and Alien Tango (Gini Koch.) The only book that didn’t work well for me was an older one by Sabrina Jeffries, Married to the Viscount. If I win, I’d like either Unveiled or A Woman’s Heart. Thanks. (Email in profile.)

  11. I finally(!) read Jennifer Crusie’s, BET ME. Loved it! The pages just flew.

Least favorite…Selfish Is The Heart by M. Hart. More like it was a letdown, I was expecting great but it just dragged.

I’d like UNVEILED if chosen. Thanks!

  12. Favorite was Shadowfever ..least favorite was nothing ..actually..

Unveiled would be my pick if I win..heard good things about it everywhere..

  13. My favorite January read was The Warrior by Zoe Archer. I know I’m late to the party but I never really felt in the mood for it until now and I loved it! Already orderd the rest. My least favorite read was Wild Heat by Bella Andre. I so would have loved to like that book (you know firefighters and all) but I just never really got into the book.
I would like to read A Woman’s Heart by JoAnn Ross. Thanks!

Favorite: Archangel’s Consort. No contest. While there were some things that I wish had been different about the book, I just love Elena and Raphael.

Least favorite: I only read 5 or so books in January (and 3 of those were the Guild Hunter series) and I enjoyed the others, so I don’t have a least favorite.

I’d love to read Unveiled. I rarely read historical romances anymore and I’d love to get back into it with a really good one.
