Rowena’s review of Lush Velvet Nights by Tina Donahue.

When wanton desires and love demand all…

During the day, Adriana’s a lonely corporate heiress, helming a supermarket empire. At night, she hires escorts, scripting provocative fantasies of kidnapping, lust, submission and endless longing. It’s all she has to excite her until she meets Nathan Wynn.

Tall, blond and muscular—like a modern-day Viking—Nathan is a labor relations attorney representing Adriana’s union employees. His imposing presence intensifies her basest desires. When he protects her from an escort he believes is an attacker, she knows he’s wonderfully dominant and unrestrained.

Fascinated by Adriana’s underlying sensuality, Nathan brings her to his secluded mountain estate, determined she submit fully to his hunger. At a gentleman’s club, he makes certain she denies him nothing. Engaging in a seductive sexual journey, Nathan’s caught off-guard by his stunning need for Adriana—and a growing emotional connection she will not let him deny.

This was a really quick read for me. The kind of read that I haven’t read in quite a long time, I might add. I’ve been stuck in this reading funk for the past several weeks and I thought that if I read something outside my walls of comfort that it would yank me right out of my slump and in a way, starting this book did. After I finished reading this book, I went home and finished two books but then I was right back in that stupid funk.

Grrr.

Anyway, back to this book. It took me no time at all to read this book and when I was done, I wasn’t mad that I took a chance on this book. It’s got a simple plot, one helluva hotness hero and a heroine that while I didn’t understand, still liked and that was good enough for me.

This book follows Adriana, a grocery store heiress who from time to time, uses an escort agency to fulfill her secret carnal pleasures. She’s into the role playing type and one night after a long day at work, she hires an escort to kidnap her and rock her world. It doesn’t matter that while she’s with the escort, she’ll be thinking about the sexy lawyer, Nathan Wynn, she’s been working hard and she’s in need for some pleasure. Everything was going according to plan until Nathan himself mistakes the escort for a bad guy and beats him up, “saving” Adriana.

The truth comes out and as embarrassed as Adriana is, she’s shocked when Nathan invites her to place in the mountains so that they can boink like crazy. Of course she goes and what takes place when they get there is more than she imagined but nothing she wasn’t up for.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read some of the spicier romances out there (ha!) but I enjoyed this one. It was short, it was steamy and exactly right for what I was looking for. The author did a great job of keeping me interested and keeping my eyebrows raised to the top of my forehead. When I finished the book, I felt like I got a good feel on both Nathan and Adriana and overall, it’s an enjoyable read. I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for something short and spicy.

Grade: 4 out of 5

  1. Hah Rowena! We all need these types of reads once in a while. I’m putting this one on my list for one of those days. It does sound good. ;P
