Monthly Reads: June

Posted July 7, 2011 by Holly in Features | 29 Comments

Holly: June was a strange reading month for me. It was very sporadic. I’d read 3 books in a day, then not read anything for a week. My final tally for the month was 15. Not too shabby, all things considered.

1. New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb 3.5/5
2. Nut Cream by Jade Buchanan 2.5/5
3. The Ideal Man by Julie Garwood 3/5
4. Anything but Mine by Linda Winfree 4/5
5. Only for You by Hannah Howell (re-read) 4/5
6. Beauty and the Beast by Hannah Howell (re-read) 4/5
7. Animal Attraction by Jill Shalvis 4/5
8. Out of the Blue by JoAnn Ross 3.75/5
9. If He’s Dangerous by Hannah Howell 3.5/5
10. Out of the Mist by JoAnn Ross 3.5/5
11. One Summer by JoAnn Ross 4/5
12. A Summer Reunion anthology 4/5
13. Only Mine by Susan Mallery 3.75/5
14. One Good Reason by Sarah Mayberry 4/5
15. Fall Into Me by Linda Winfree (re-read) 4.5/5

I ended up reading the Winfree‘s because Lori and Renee were talking about the series and I realized I skipped a book, Anything But Mine. I have no idea how that happened. It was a great read. I’d recommend it.

Anyway, my favorite read of the month was probably Animal Attraction by Jill Shalvis. It’s the second book in her Sunshine, ID series. Honorable mentions go to One Good Reason by Sarah Mayberry and Fall Into Me by Linda Winfree (My least favorite read was Nut Cream by Jade Buchanan. I actually bought it because B&N recommended it (I don’t want to know what I’ve been reading to get recs like that) and I was mildly horrified by the title. The book wasn’t terribly written, but the page count didn’t allow for much quality in the content.

Casee: June has been the best reading month this year for me. I finally felt that elusive feeling back that reading has always given me. The feeling that was absent for the first half of this year. Joy, comfort, lurve, excitement, etc. I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling until I got it back. This month I read 9 books, which doesn’t seem like a lot. Most of what I read what toward the latter half of June. I can’t pick a favorite, but I’ll try. You think it would be easy with 9 books, right? It’s between Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh, Storm’s Heart by Thea Harrison, or Taken by Fire by Sydney Croft. Or maybe Shiver of Fear by Roxanne St. Claire.

1. Sinful Magic by Jennifer Lyon (4.25/5)
2. Shiver of Fear by Roxanne St. Claire (4.25/5)
3. Face of Danger by Roxanne St. Claire (4/5)
4. My Dangerous Pleasure by Carolyn Jewel (4/5)
5. In Seconds by Brenda Novak (3/5)
6. Taken by Fire by Sydney Croft (4.5/5)
7. Storm’s Heart by Thea Harrison (4.25/5)
8. Justice by Karen Robards (3.5/5)
9. Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh (4.5/5)

Rowena: June was another good reading month for me. According to my challenge status on Goodreads, I’m about sixteen books behind my goal if I want to finish ahead of my goal at the end of the year so I better get my shit together and get some more reading done. Here’s what I read in June:

1. Unlocked by Courtney Milan. (5 out of 5)
2. Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase. (4.75 out of 5)
3. Graveminder by Melissa Marr. (3.5 out of 5)
4. The Ideal Man by Julie Garwood. (4 out of 5)
5. Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt. (4.5 out of 5)
6. This Perfect Kiss by Melody Thomas. (3.75 out of 5)
7. Where She Went by Gayle Forman. (5 out of 5)
8. Insatiable by Meg Cabot. (3.75 out of 5)
9. Only Mine by Susan Mallery. (3.5 out of 5)
10. Two Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt. (4 out of 5)
11. Playing Dirty by Susan Andersen. (4.25 out of 5)
12. Kathryn, the Kitten by Lavinia Kent. (3.5 out of 5)
My favorite read of the month is definitely Unlocked by Courtney Milan. That short story was so full of win that everyone should read it. The other book that I enjoyed was Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase, another book that was full of win. The characters in both stories were wonderfully charming and the stories were awesomely written. My least favorite read of the month would probably go to Graveminder by Melissa Marr or Only Mine by Susan Mallery. I liked both books, I just didn’t absolutely adore them the way that I wanted to.

Unlocked by Courtney Milan (e-book)

  1. Least favourite book of the month was Curse of the Chosen by Ian Irvine.

Favourite book is harder to choose.
It’s a choice between In Her Name: Empire by Michael R Hicks and The Last Warrior by Susan Grant as both of them were excellent reads.

  2. Hi Girls,

My most favorite read of the month was “When Passion Rules” by Johanna Lindsey. Wow, I love her books, she’s is such an awesome writer and never fails to please.

Now, for my least favorite book. Well, that was “Taken By The Prince’ by Christina Dodd. (Oh please, don’t hit me – lol). For some reason, I just couldn’t enjoy it and, in fact, never even fished reading it. It’s sad because i normally love Christina’s books. I know thatlots of people have said they like this book. Maybe there’s something wrong with me?

If I’m chosen as a winner, then I would love to read “Silk Is For Seduction” by Loretta Chase.

    Thank you for this opportunity.

  3. I read quite a few books this last month and it’s a bit of a blur. But my memory does remember what it liked and that was Lover Unleashed by JR Ward. I know some readers had a few problems with it not focusing on the main couple enough, but everything clicked really well for me. LOVED the angst and the new manly additions….Throe & Xcor are my latest obsessions.

What frustrated me to no end was Lovely Wicked by Kari Gregg. Started off so well and then fizzled big time for me.

If I win, I’d love One Good Reason by Sarah Mayberry.

  4. My favorite read for the month was Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. I think I’ve read it 3 times now. My least favorite was probably the first book in the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur. I was a little disturbed by the bed hopping, but I finished the series this morning and was happy with the outcome.

I would like to win Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh.

  5. My favorite read last month was Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter. So good. My least favorite was The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch. Both titles happen to be YA, since that’s what I read half the time.

If I win, I would LOVE to get Archangel’s Blade pre-ordered. I was going to do it anyway because I love that series, so this will save me a step. =)

  6. My fav so far this summer is carolyn jewel’s my dangerous pleasure. It is my utmost favorite in her series. Her characters are extremely well written.
My least fav is tyler by c.h. admirand. I did like reading it but it took me a while to get into it. I also took a while to get into the plot and characters.

If i win i would like Archangel’s Blade.

Thank you for doing the contest and the opportunity to win

I really didn’t like Love at First Flight.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the steampunk elements of The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale (even though I had a couple of issues with the ending).

I’d really like to read the Chase book.

  8. My reading has been sporadic these couple of months. I blame it on work-stress. I have a couple of books that I’ve started but haven’t finished. I’m waiting for a long couple days off and vacation to get back to them. Mostly I’ve been reading novellas on my Kindle. I discovered Ava March, and I’m really enjoying her M/M historicals. Definitely, my favorite read was Courtney Milan’s Unlocked. My least favorite was Thea Harrison’s Dragon Bound – it was a fun read but didn’t make me want to pick up the second book in the series.

I’m really interested in reading Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Blade or Loretta Chase’s Silk is for Seduction.

I had such a great month, it’s hard to choose but I guess I’ll go with The Reluctant Nude by Meg Maguire. Lovely book, really special. For least favorite I have to say To Darkness and to Death by Julia Spencer-Fleming. I love, love, love the Clare and Russ series, but this one was just… revolting. I felt like I needed a shower after reading it. — willaful

Oh, put me down for Loretta Chase — I already have Unlocked and am hopelessy behind on Singh.

  11. I’d love to be entered to win please. Though I’m finding it tough to chose so I’ll go for more than one book. I’d prefer the pre-order of Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Blade please, or if that’s not possible then I’d gladly accept Loretta Chase’s Silk is for Seduction 😉
My favourite read of the month was by far and away Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. Amazing book with a believable development of the romance and some cool action. Above all enjoyed it because after all the anticipation was not in any way let down and thought Hawke and Sienna’s story was beautifully told. Brilliant addition to the Psy-Changeling series.
My least favorite was Lauren Dane’s Laid Bare. I just could not buy into the story at all. I know the author has some awesome reviews and I’ve tried the other 2 books in this (Brown) series, but seeing the characters from this book pop up annoy me and ruin the other stories . Might still give her other series a try, though after some time.

  12. My favorite book this month was Shameless by Anne Stuart. My least favorite was Love a Dark Rider by Shirlee Busbee.

Please count me in for either Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh or Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase.

  13. Oh, I am so jealous of anyone who has read Archangels Blade. I want to read that so bad.

My favorite book this month was Lorraine Heath’s newest. My least favorite was Lara Adrian’s newest. I just couldn’t get into the beginning, so I’ve set it aside and hopefully when I pick it back up I’ll be able to enjoy it more because I do really like this series.

  14. Favorite was Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews.

Least liked was Putting Makeup on Dead People (vastly over rated).

    Would like: Archangel’s Blade

Just read Kiss of Snow in July, it might be my best read for this month, but there’s lots more books to read this month.

  15. My favorite for the month was a tie between Unlocked and Magic Slays. My least favorite was The Seduction of an English Lady by Cathy Maxwell.

If I win, I’d be happy with any of the books with the exception of Unlocked.

My favorite reads this past month were Unlocked by Courtney Milan, Yours to Keep by Shannon Stacey and Stranded With Her Ex by Jill Sorenson. My least favorite book was Sara Orwig’s Texas Size Temptation. This was a letdown since it was recommended from a website that I often check for titles to add in my TBR file.

  17. Jane

My favorite read of the month was Cherry Adair’s Hush. My least favorite read was the Four Dukes and a Devil anthology.

Please enter me for the copy of Loretta Chase’s Silk is For Seduction. Thanks.

  18. Di

My favorite read was SEALed Forever by Mary Margaret Daughtride. I didn’t really have a least favorite. If I’m lucky, I’d love Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase

  19. My favorite was Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh, i love her books so much. My least favorite was Primal Pleasure by Sydney Somers because I just couldnt get into it and it felt like something was missing.

I’d love a copy of Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh if i win please.

My favorite read for the month of June was Overbite by Meg Cabot. I don’t have a least favorite. I would like to read One Good Reason by Sarah Mayberry.

    Diana

  21. Favorite book this month:
Karen Chance’s Hunt the Moon (re-read it 2x) – loved the whole book but the ending just about killed me (in a good way)

    Least favorite:
Joey W. Hill’s The Vampire Queen- just could not get into it

  22. Lots of good books last month, but my top favorite was Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh.

Least favorite was Wanton Temptation by Ruth Kerce.

I would love to win Archangel’s Blade.

  23. Hmm I read so many books in June I must pick the best and worst? Well I finished up the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs. I love all five of them. The last one had some dry parts but overall they were great. My biggest disappointment though was probably the latest Sookie Stackhouse book 11 Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris. It made me mad on a lot of fronts. Hopefully the next one improves or makes up for it.

I am looking forward to: Archangel’s Blade by Nalini Singh. I want it bad 😀 but if I had to pick a second choice I’d pick Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase

  24. I was lucky as I read only books I really liked in June, for example Stranded with her Ex by Jill Sorenson (my first Harlequin RS and I loved it) or Lecia Cornwall’s Secrets of a Proper Countess.
I would love to win either One Good Reason or Silk is for Seduction. Thank you!

  25. My favorite reads were MY ONE AND ONLY by Kristan Higgins and WHEN BEAUTY TAMED THE BEAST by Eloisa James. Least favorite, but not a bad story, was THE COMEBACK COWBOY by Cathy McDavid.

Please toss my name in the hat for SILK IS FOR SEDUCTION. Thanks!
