Thanks so much to Holly for letting me hang out at The Book Binge today!

The past month and a half has flown by in a blur (how is it already February?) and as I sat down to write this post I had originally planned to chat about guilty pleasures. Instead, my mind went in a totally different direction.

The last couple years have brought forth a lot of changes for my family and me. About two years ago I moved to a new state and left all my family behind. Yes, I love my in-laws (like crazy!) but I’m sorry, no one can replace my parents or sister. Relocating also brought forth more changes. I went from a relatively large city to a small coastal town where things move much slower (and that is definitely not a bad thing). I also made the move into writing full time, sold to New York, and had my first child. Writing with a new baby in the house has been an interesting challenge. Even though so many good things happened, those events were also tempered by equal amounts of stresses and hardships (none of which I plan to get into because they’re a bit too personal). That’s just life and if things were handed to us then our victories and accomplishments likely wouldn’t be as sweet.

Which brings me to the point of this post. I bet you thought it was about change. But it’s not. Well, not completely. Unlike so many writers who knew what they wanted to do from practically the time they could hold a pen, I didn’t always know I wanted to write. When I figured it out I didn’t reach out to anyone in the writing community at first.

The only thing I did was join RWA but I didn’t search out a local chapter for another eleven months. I could say that was a mistake but at the time I wasn’t ready to meet other writers. The thought of telling anyone I wanted to be a writer was terrifying. Once I finally reached out, a whole new world opened up to me. After a lot of trial and errors, I found two perfect critique partners, I made a lot of friends—one who totally revamped both my websites for free when I had problems with a bad designer—and the giving nature of the romance community (both readers and writers) continues to astound me. I could be mistaken but I don’t think the online atmosphere is quite the same for writers of other genres. I hope I’m wrong. All I know is I’m happy to write romance and this community of giving people makes it that much better. When I see food drives for those less fortunate by bloggers or readers and writers joining together to raise money for someone who lost their house to a fire it amazes me.

Recently I sold my Moon Shifter series to NAL. Selling to them was a dream come true and being able to celebrate with so many wonderful friends in the writing community has been an added bonus. Alpha Instinct, the first book in the series, just released last week and that still feels a little surreal!

Alpha Instinct official blurb:

Fear has a scent. So does desire…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

A little about me: I’ve been reading romance since a young age—ever since I discovered my mom’s hidden stash. Luckily the addiction stayed with me into adulthood. I write paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense for Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, and NAL/Signet Eclipse. 2. We moved to Wyoming this fall thanks to Uncle Sam but that’s military life for you! It’s definitely a slower pace here with a LOT of wind. The jury is still on Wyoming but I’m keeping an open mind. One thing that bugs me is I haven’t seen a cowboy, they all must be hibernating!
I’m always on the look out for a new author especially paranormal!

  4. I look forward to reading this one-I’ve heard so many great things about it already! 😀

As to big changes…Yes, visions changes, but that started almost a year ago. Still trying to recover though, hopefully it gets better soon so I can continue working towards my masters degree.

    Enjoy!

So many changes last year I am hoping this year will be quiet. My 25 year old son lost his battle with severe PTSD, I had a massive heart attack a month later at the age of 47. My daughter got a divorce and moved back home with her two kids. So now all three of my grandkids live with me (ages 5, 4 and 2). When I was released to go back to work, the owner of the company sold it so I was laid off. And of course a ton of other minor things. But this has given me a chance to read more and escape into a totally different world away from real life for a short time! 🙂

    Congratulations on your new release.

For me the two biggest changes have been that I bought a house last year and then a few months ago I started a second job to help pay for all the things that need to be done to said house 🙂

  7. My manager at work asked me if I wanted to interview for a manager positon, I’m a lead now, but I had to say no. It’s a closing position and I just couldn’t work those hours. I was the first person he considered though which was really nice.

  8. In December, after not traveling for work for 20 years, I accepted a consulting project that requires 100% travel for 6 mos. I’m in Canada right now, heading to Europe in March for a couple of months. It’s been a big adjustment (even more so for the hubster) but its been really fun also. Best wishes on the book’s success.

  9. The biggest change for me is a met myself a military man and i am marrying him in April. At the age of 53, this will be something for me after being single for 18 years. I raised 3 children myself and now it will be time for me. Best wishes on your book.
