Guest Author (+ a Giveaway): Jodi Thomas – Just Down the Road

Posted March 27, 2012 by Holly in Giveaways, Promotions | 18 Comments

Today Bestselling author Jodi Thomas is back to celebrate the release of Just Down the Road, her latest Harmony, Texas novel. This is such a wonderful contemporary series. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend you do.

____________

I’ve been waiting for JUST DOWN THE ROAD to hit the stands for months. When I was writing it, the story flew. Harmony, Texas, is a town I’ve lived in for a while but this time the characters new and old danced off the pages as fast as I could type. I love that the readers go on this adventure with me and this time I promise to keep them up.

I think I fell in love with Tinch Turner when I first met him sitting outside the emergency room waiting to make sure all the guys he just beat up were going home with little more than bruised egos. He’s the kind of guy Addison Spencer, the new town doctor, sees as tall, lean, walking trouble. She thinks she wants nothing to do with him until she catches a glimpse of Tinch through his four year old nephew’s eyes.

I like to write my stories like life, with people’s worlds circling around one another and sometimes colliding. The stories that happen in Harmony are like that. Some ending as others begin but all richer for being together.

JUST DOWN THE ROAD is my fourth stop off in Harmony, Texas. Though the books are related they don’t have to be read in order. However, for those readers who love series, you might want to start with the first, WELCOME TO HARMONY. Though the stories are different, you might have fun watching the way a few of the people grow through the books.

Step into my stories. You’ll find a home in Harmony.

Jodi Thomas

A fifth generation Texan who taught family living, Jodi Thomas chooses to set the majority of her novels in her home state, where her grandmother was born in a covered wagon. A former teacher, Thomas traces the beginning of her storytelling career to the days when her twin sisters were young and impressionable.
With a degree in Family Studies, Thomas is a marriage and family counselor by education, a background that enables her to write about family dynamics. Honored in 2002 as a Distinguished Alumni by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Thomas enjoys interacting with students on the West Texas A & M University campus, where she currently serves as Writer In Residence.
Commenting on her contribution to the arts, Thomas said, “When I was teaching classes full time, I thought I was making the world a better place. Now I think of a teacher, or nurse, or mother settling back and relaxing with one of my books. I want to take her away on an adventure that will entertain her. Maybe, in a small way, I’m still making the world a better place.”

  1. I LOVE “small town” books for the place that they take you to. The “everyone knows your business, but will help you in a heartbeat” aspect is what I enjoy most. I don’t live in a BIG city, but I miss the small town feel of the town I grew up in. Books take me there! Also, I have loved every book of Jodi’s that I have read so far!

  2. I don’t seek out small town books, but if the author’s voice sells them to me, I will inhale them.

Which is what happened with Welcome to Harmony 😀

Congratulations on the release of Just Down the Road, Ms Thomas!

  3. So happy that Ms Thomas is continuing this series 🙂

What I like about small town romance is that everyone know each other and at the end of the day, the characters know where they belong and have people they can count on 🙂

  4. I like small-town romances in contemporary fiction and anything Jodi Thomas writes. I discovered her books two years ago, and since then I have been steadily building my collection with as many of her books as I can find (new and OOPs). A new book by Jodi Thomas is always exciting!

  5. I love Jodi’s Harmony series and I’m looking forward to reading her newest. What I like best about small-town stories is the way the community pulls together to face adversity. There is a “love thy neighbor” quality that is unique.

I like the interconnections between the characters – family members and close friends; characters that have know each other a long time; quirky supporting characters.

I really want to read the Harmony, Texas books. They sound so heartwarming which is what I find many small-town stories to be. I like them because the town really comes to life. I don’t just meet the main characters but their family and friends. It’s a small but interesting world.

  11. I’ve always enjoyed the small town romance, where everyone knows everyone and the busy bodies stick their noses into the middle of relationships, much to the dismay of the main characters. They’re always so much fun.

  12. In small town romance I love the fact that the hero & heroine can’t help but run into each other. It’s a small, close community after all.
