Books to Binge On

Our Books to Binge On feature is pretty simple in its purpose. Every month, we put together a monthly new releases list of books that we’re all looking forward to. These are the books that we can’t wait to read and want everyone to add to their monthly binge-reading lists. Here are the books that we plan to binge on in December of 2021.

Immortal’s Honor (Dark Protectors #14) by Rebecca Zanetti

First comes danger . . .

When Vampire-Demon Sam Kyllwood discovers he’s the keeper of some mysterious circle, he laughs it off. When he finds out that his younger brother is supposed to fight to the death in said circle, he snaps right to furious. And that’s before he starts uncontrollably making things explode —it turns out it’s never too late to develop deadly new immortal abilities. But even those explosions are nothing compared to what happens when he tries to handle a very suspicious, brilliant and beyond sexy human female whose piercing eyes ignite a heat that rages deliciously outside even his unbreakable control…

Then comes desire . . .

Honor McDovall is one of the best interrogators Homeland Security has ever had. But no matter how well she appears to fit in, her mystical gifts are slowly driving her mad. She doesn’t understand them, she doesn’t want them, but for now, she’ll use them to detect and defeat danger until she completely loses her mind. Unfortunately, her job brings her face to face with the deadliest man she’s ever met—and she senses Sam is even more gifted than she is. Yet once they kiss, she realizes he’s also more dangerous than the enemies suddenly coming from every direction. Good thing they both like to play with fire . . .

Casee: I’ve already read this book & I loved it!

A Scoundrel of Her Own (Sinful Wallflowers #3) by Stacy Reid

Lady Ophelia Darby exists in two worlds. In one, she is the impudent, willful daughter of a powerful marquess and darling of the ton. In the other, she moves through the underworld’s shadows as songstress Lady Starlight, protected only by the notoriously wealthy scoundrel Devlin Byrne. But when she stumbles upon her beloved father’s darkest secrets, the line between her two worlds quickly blurs. Now she needs the help of the one man a lady should never trust.

Devlin Byrne stands on the edge of London society, knowing he will never be accepted. No one else knows that his obscene wealth and ruthlessness aren’t without purpose. Or that his purpose has golden-brown eyes that shimmer with mischief, the palest of skin, and a lush mouth that beckons to be kissed, and deeply. But having Ophelia is only the beginning of Devlin’s plans.

It’s undeniable that Devlin Byrne is a dangerous temptation—but just as Ophelia begins to trust him, maybe even fall for him, she discovers she’s not the only one with secrets. And his would lead her down more than just the path of scandal…

Holly: I really liked the first two books in this series and I’m so glad we’re finally getting Ophelia’s book.

It Happened One Midnight by Saranna DeWylde

CAN YOU SKIP THE STORYBOOK BEGINNING…

Novelist Juniper Blossom has romance down to a science in her bestselling books. But she’s not about to settle for just any man—a happy ending looks different for everyone, and she needs to find the guy whose idea of forever matches her own. Try telling that to her adorable, meddling grandmothers, though. If she doesn’t find a man soon, they’re going to find one for her. Which is why Juniper has prepared for a trip home to Ever After by fibbing that her sexy, smart, sweet best friend Tomas is her fiancé! He doesn’t believe in love at all, but that doesn’t matter if they’re just pretending…

ON THE WAY TO THE HAPPY ENDING?

Divorce attorney Tomas Rivera is as proud of Juniper’s authorial success as she is, but that doesn’t mean he buys into her books’ premise. His career is proof enough that true love is the real fairy tale—and everyone knows fairy tales aren’t real. But he can never say no to gorgeous Juniper, and an “engagement” might move him one legal brief closer to partner at his old-fashioned firm. Yet playing the part suddenly starts to mean feeling it, especially when a kiss just for show turns up the heat between them. Is happily ever after possible for two people who aren’t on the same page when it comes to love?

Holly: I haven’t read this author before, but the story sounds really cute.

The Love Con by Seressia Glass

He’s cosplaying as her boyfriend but their feelings for each other are real in this romantic comedy from Seressia Glass.

Sometimes Kenya Davenport believes she was switched at the hospital–how else could a lover of anime, gaming, and cosplay come from STEM parents? Still, Kenya dreams of being able to turn her creative hobby into a career. She finally has a chance to make it big when she joins the reality show competition Cosplay or No Way.

There’s just one catch: the challenge for the final round is all about iconic pairs, and the judges want the contestants’ significant others to participate. Unfortunately, Kenya is as single as can be at the moment. Luckily her best friend, Cameron Lassiter, agrees to be her fake boyfriend for the show.

Roleplaying a couple in love will force them to explore what they’re hiding under the mask of friendship. Can Kenya and Cam fake it until she makes it, or will she be real about her feelings, knowing it could cost her the best friend she’s ever had?

Holly: I love the premise of this book.

  1. Kareni

Absynthe by Brendan P. Bellecourt; Innate Magic by Shannon Fay; Fire of the Frost: and A midwinter holiday fantasy romance anthology by Darynda Jones, Grace Draven, Jeffe Kennedy, Amanda Bouchet all looks intriguing.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb

Maisey Yates is releasing THE COWBOY SHE LOVES TO HATE on December 1. I’m not a big fan of cowboy romances, but Yates can always bring the angst so I might give this one—with a 30-year-old virgin librarian heroine—a try.

Maisey Yates has been very busy because her latest HP, CROWNED FOR HIS CHRISTMAS BABY, is also being released December 1. This is a royal romance that starts off a new series with subsequent books (scheduled for January and February of 2022) written by my other Queens of angsty-heartache, Caitlin Crews and Jackie Ashenden.

Zoe York’s novella, A NAVY SEAL FOR CHRISTMAS, with a Seal hero who agrees to be a live model for a drawing class, arrives December 7. York is one of my favorite writers of small-town/high-steam romances, so I’m looking forward to this little Christmas gift from her.

Amelia Wilde’s HOSTILE TAKEOVER (not to be confused with the recent Lucy Lennox book of the same title) drops December 14. It’s the second book of her Wealth trilogy about a woman trying to save her father’s failing business and the man determined to exact revenge for the role her father played in his parents’ deaths. Based on the first book (NET WORTH), HOSTILE TAKEOVER will be very dark and uber-angsty.

Also dropping December 14, TWELVE NAUGHTY DAYS, a multi-author anthology of erotic short stories inspired by The 12 Days of Christmas. Writers include some of my favorites, like Skye Warren, CD Reiss, and Sierra Simone, so I’m anticipating some interesting reading!

Cora Reilly’s mafia-crossed-over-with-motorcycle-club romance, BY SIN I RISE, PART 2, arrives December 15. I read Part 1 which (par for the Reilly course) was full of violence, virginity fetishism, angsty emotions, and rough sex. Not for all tastes, admittedly, but I love Reilly’s “what if a mafia romance was written in the style of an HP” treatment.

CD Reiss’s TAKE ME drops on Christmas Day. It starts a new trilogy with a hero who made a supporting appearance in her recent DiLustro Arrangement mafia romance trilogy. TAKE ME is also a mafia romance that starts with the heroine being abducted on her wedding day. Reiss’s work is immersive and unsentimental—and she can get super dark, which I suspect will be the case with TAKE ME.

Kate Canterbary’s THE WORST GUY (part of her Vital Signs series) has been scheduled for December 28, but can’t be pre-ordered through Amazon, which is apparently why I can’t even find reference to it on Amazon. I’m looking forward to ending the year with a new grumpy-sunshine pairing from Kate.
