Giveaway Alert
Three lucky winners will choose their prize (one book) from any of the books we logged this month. If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were.
My favorite book of the month was The Secret of Bow Lane by Jennifer Ashley and my least favorite was Heartbreaker by Sarah Maclean. The latter author is so repetitive: all her heroine’s must smash the patriarchy and all her heroes must constantly be amazed at how strong the heroine is. There’s no nuance in her stories. The Secret of Bow Lane is a nice romance-mystery series centered around the working class in Victorian England.
I was afraid of that with Heartbreaker. I really enjoyed the female relationships and the secret club in the first book, but frankly the romance left a lot to be desired. I think I’ll skip the rest of the series.
I have the Ashley series in my TBR. I’m going to pull it out. Thanks for the reminder.
Like both of you, I also did a lot of rereads in August. Favorites included the entire Claimings series by Lyn Gala, The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, and (new to me) This Time Tomorrow: A Novel by Emma Straub.
I abandoned the books that did not speak to me.
I also liked Maggie Moves On and Soul Taken.
I only read nine books in August but four of them were fantastic so it’s really hard to pick favorites – Emerald Blaze and Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews (of course!), plus two really good romances, Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan, and Bend Toward the Sun by Jen Devon. It was a very good reading month.
I read ten books in August. My favorites were Fearne Hill’s TWO TRIBES, an m/m romance that spans 25 years, and J. T. Geissinger’s PEN PAL, a romance/psychological suspense/gothic horror mashup about a young widow in a crumbling Victoria house who gets involved with the hot guy who she hires to fix her roof. Both books made my Favorites of 2022 list.
I didn’t read anything I hated, but J. Kenner’s CHARMED BY YOU, a celebrity-bodyguard romance, was pretty forgettable.
Holy, Holly! LOL
Great job ladies! Happy September!
Hahahaha, Holy Holly is spot on!
worst book: Maybe Later by Claudia Burgoa
Hutchins Creek Cache by Deborah Garner was interesting
