October is here and there are only 3 more months of adding 2019 books to our reading lists. Who’s ready for the end of the year??? Here are the books that we’re looking forward to binging in October.
Getting Played (Getting Some #2) by Emma Chase
Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.
Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.
One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. But that’s nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all—their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked up, and now they’re about to become parents. Together.
What ensues is an addictive, insatiable, sweet and tender romance that won’t be simple, but it will be more than worth the fight.
Casee: This book came out on audio a little while back. It’s amazing!
Rowena: I’ve been meaning to read this book, or listen to it since it came out in audio but I never got around to it. Maybe I’ll read the eBook instead. This one is going on my list.
Holly: I really enjoyed the audio and I already pre-ordered the ebook. I can’t wait to read it.
The Kingmaker (All the King’s Men Duet #1) by “>Kennedy Ryan
“The world belongs to us and we have the sky to ourselves.”
In her upcoming duet, RITA® Award Winner and Top 25 Amazon Bestseller Kennedy Ryan, spins a tale of passion, betrayal and power spanning the globe from the iconic canals of Amsterdam, under Antarctica’s midnight sun and all the way to Pennsylvania Avenue in America’s capital.
Casee: I couldn’t find much information on this book, but I will read anything by Kennedy Ryan. The title is very intriguing.
Rowena: I’m with Casee on this one. If Kennedy Ryan wrote it, I want to read it so this one is also on my list.
Hold on to Hope by A.L. Jackson
Evan Bryant wasn’t your typical hero.
But he was mine.
Broken by the worlds’ standards, he was still the strongest boy I would ever know.
My best friend. The boy I’d given everything to. My heart, my body, and the promise of forever.
The day I’d needed him most, he walked away.
He left me shattered and questioning the love I’d thought we’d shared.Three years later, I wasn’t prepared for him to return to Gingham Lakes.
It wouldn’t have mattered if he wasn’t the most beautiful man I’d ever seen.
My fingers still would have ached to caress his skin.
My body still would have begged to get lost in his touch.
And my heart . . . it would have always sung his name.
But time changes things. With it, secrets that could ruin everything.
Can we find a way to love again, or have the fears of our past stolen the hope of our forever . . .
Casee: I will read anything by this author. Anything.
“Once he met her, it was and always would be Lyla.”
They were the gentlemen bad boys of rock. Forming in a garage in a small town in Indiana. Taking their licks on the road. Going balls to the wall until they made their big break.
And then Preacher McCade and the Roadmasters redefined rock and roll.
Guided by their tortured lead singer and songwriter, the Roadmasters changed the face of music in the 80s and 90s. And on their journey to becoming one of the most enduring bands in history—dogged by rumors and myth and fueled by drugs and booze—the Roadmasters had one touchstone.
Lyla.
Preacher’s muse, the love of his life, and the band’s moral compass, from the beginning, Lyla is along for the ride.
But with fame and acclaim in their grasp, they’ve entered the fast lane.
And they didn’t know it, but they were headed for a crash.
Casee: Kristen Ashley is my crack. I heart her.
Holly: I haven’t enjoyed KA’s more recent releases much, so I’ll wait for some reviews before deciding if I’m going to buy this one.

Casee: This author hasn’t released a full length book for awhile. I’m super excited to dive into this one.
Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren

But the vacation of a lifetime is wonderfully derailed by the appearance of two charming Vermont farmers: grandfather Luther and his handsome grandson Sam.
Sam and Tate fall hard and fast. For two glorious weeks, the couple share their hopes, dreams, and secrets. Sam admits he suspects his grandfather is dying and that this could be the last trip they take together, and Tate reveals that she is the hidden daughter of one of the biggest film stars in the world—a secret she’s never told anyone before.
But when Tate is exposed by a crush of cameras and reporters, she knows she’s been betrayed by the one person she thought she could trust. She is forced to decide whether she will return to her quiet life or embrace being in the public eye. So when Sam reappears in her world more than a decade later, can Tate forgive the past and rekindle the passion they shared on their magical trip abroad? And does she even want to?
Rowena: I will read anything that these two write and this one sounds like a super cute contemporary read so I’m all for it.
Holly: I enjoyed the other books I’ve read by Lauren, so I’m adding this to my list.
The Play (Briar U #3) by Elle Kennedy
A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!
What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.
But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friends with a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.
Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.
And she’s making a play for me.
Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts.
Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.
Rowena: Yes, please! We’re finally getting Hunter’s book and I can’t wait for Elle Kennedy to redeem his ol’ crybaby ass for me. He hasn’t been my favorite character in this series but I’m looking forward to reading his book and meeting his heroine. I have to know who will tame this wild boy.
Holly: Come.to.Mama.
10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston
Sophie wants one thing for Christmas-a little freedom from her overprotective parents. So when they decide to spend Christmas in South Louisiana with her very pregnant older sister, Sophie is looking forward to some much needed private (read: make-out) time with her long-term boyfriend, Griffin. Except it turns out that Griffin wants a little freedom from their relationship. Cue devastation.
Heartbroken, Sophie flees to her grandparents’ house, where the rest of her boisterous extended family is gathered for the holiday. That’s when her nonna devises a (not so) brilliant plan: Over the next ten days, Sophie will be set up on ten different blind dates by different family members. Like her sweet cousin Sara, who sets her up with a hot guy at an exclusive underground party. Or her crazy aunt Patrice, who signs Sophie up for a lead role in a living nativity. With a boy who barely reaches her shoulder. And a screaming baby.
When Griffin turns up unexpectedly and begs for a second chance, Sophie feels more confused than ever. Because maybe, just maybe, she’s started to have feelings for someone else . . . Someone who is definitely not available.
This is going to be the worst Christmas break ever… or is it?
Rowena: This sounds like such a cute read that I’m super excited to read it. I really like the cover too. So cute!
Moonlighter (The Company #1) by Sarina Bowen
Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.
I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.
Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.
But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.
Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.
Rowena: Squee!! This is Bayer’s book! I’m so excited that he’s getting a book. I really liked him in the Brooklyn Bruisers series and I was hoping that we’d get his book. I’m a little sad that his book isn’t really part of the Brooklyn Bruisers series but we’re getting a new series out of it so I’ll take it! Come to mama!
Holly: BAYER!!! I need this book like whoa.

Rowena: So this might be one of those unicorn books that we keep hearing is going to come out, only it never does. But I’m going to put this book on my books to binge list because on the off chance that it does come out? I want it and I will definitely binge on it so let’s all keep our fingers crossed that it’s really coming out.
Holly: We’re never getting this book. Ever. But I’ll buy it if by some miracle we ever do.

They say opposites attract, but I beg to differ. Combust is more like it. Because every single time I talk to Zach Nolan, I see red.

Holly: This was an audio-first release I really enjoyed. I’m excited for the ebook, as I like to re-read.
Angel in a Devil’s Arms by Julie Anne Long
From USA Today bestselling author Julie Anne Long comes the second book in an exciting new historical romance series, the first since her beloved Pennyroyal Green series.
He has devil’s blood in his veins. At least, that’s always been the legend. How else could the Duke of Brexford’s notorious bastard son return from the dead? The brutal decade since Lucien Durand, Lord Bolt, allegedly drowned in the Thames forged him into a man who always gets what—and who—he wants. And what he wants is vengeance for his stolen birthright…and one wild night in Angelique Breedlove’s bed.
Angelique recognizes heartbreak when the enigmatic Lord Bolt walks into The Grand Palace on the Thames, and not even his devastating charm can tempt her to risk her own ever again. One scorching kiss drives home the danger.
But in the space between them springs a trust that feels anything but safe. And the passion—explosive, consuming—drives Lucien to his knees. Now his whole life depends on proving his love to a woman who doesn’t believe in it…because his true birthright, he now knows, is guardian of Angelique Breedlove’s heart.
Holly: I really liked the first book in this series and I have high hopes for this one.

Neilina is wolf shifter and conriocht. Haakon shifts into a sabretooth tiger, asmundr – the ultimate guardian of feline shifters. Both are Chrechte, both will spend centuries guarding their people. They can barely look at one another without needing to touch. It should be the perfect mating.

She has spent nearly two centuries alone, living with the pain of that asmundr’s betrayal and her own failure. She knows Haakon is her mate, but she’ll never accept a Viking cat shifter, much less the son of the man who has caused her such grief.
Haakon never knew his father as destroyer, all he does know is that he and his cat crave their mate. He will do whatever it takes to protect ad claim the woman destined to fight by his side, even if it means crossing an ocean and leaving everything and everyone he knows behind.
This is a critical time in Chrechte history, when the Paindeal, Faol and Ean must come together to fight a common foe, or be completely destroyed. Neilina and Haakon must learn to deal with the past as passion burns like a wildfire between them, and they must come together to protect all Chrechte.
Holly: I haven’t read a Lucy Monroe book in awhile, but I loved her early historical paranormal novels. I’m really looking forward to this one.
What books are you looking forward to reading this month? Share in the comments!
Looking at my October wish list, I see quite a bit of dark romance. I’m looking forward to the Megan Crane, but I really prefer the books she writes under her alternate name, Caitlin Crews. Crews has an October release for the Dare line, THE RISK. It’s part of a four-book series called The Billionaire’s Club, with each book written by a different author. I enjoyed the first book, Jackie Ashenden’s THE DEBT, very much.
Clare Connelly, Queen of the HP (and HP-manque) angsty melodrama, has two books due in October: THE GREEK ‘S BILLION-DOLLAR BABY and JUST THIS ONE SUMMER. You either love her style or you don’t…and I’m usually in the “love it” camp.
Willow Winters’s DESPERATE TO TOUCH is the follow-up to HARD TO LOVE. These are dark mob/crime-boss romances. Same for Natasha Knight and her COLLATERAL & DAMAGE duet. COLLATERAL was released this week—but I’m waiting to read this dark forced-marriage/mafia romance until DAMAGE is released in October. I don’t care for cliffhangers and try to wait until all the books in a particular storyline are published before I read them.
Finally, Skye Warren’s AUDITION arrives at the end of the month. It has a beautiful “ballet shoes” cover and features secondary characters from Warren’s North Security series. The heroine is a dancer from New Orleans who apparently experienced childhood trauma related to Hurricane Katrina. The hero is equally damaged from an abusive/dysfunctional childhood. It sounds grim, but Warren generally makes this stuff work for me.
I’m most interested in the books by Sarina Bowen and Christina Lauren. Like Holly, I’ll be looking with interest at reviews of the new Kristen Ashley book.
Anything by author Whitney G.
I thought of one more book that I’m looking forward to reading ~ DARK MATTERS (Class 5 #4) by Michelle Diener .
