Rowena: I can’t believe that we’re already getting our book lists together for October. Where has the time gone? There are only three months left of the year and then we’ll be putting together our new year, new me lists. Time is flying by too fast and I’m not ready.
As always, here are the books that we’re looking forward to binge on in the month of October.
Lionheart (Moonshadow #3) by Thea Harrison.
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Thea Harrison comes the final story in her spellbinding Moonshadow trilogy…
King Oberon reigned over his Dark Court in Lyonesse for centuries, until an assassination attempt laid him low. Now he lies unconscious in his snow-bound palace, while his Power battles the enchantment that threatens to end his life.
A skilled trauma surgeon and magic-user, Dr. Kathryn Shaw reigns at the top of her profession in New York. Then comes a challenge she can’t resist—she is asked to cure the uncureable. Just getting close enough to try healing Oberon is a dangerous proposition. When she does reach him, he awakens too soon.
Roused from darkness by Kathryn’s presence, Oberon confronts the beautiful stranger who claims she wants to save his life. But the enchantment has frozen his emotions. How can he learn to trust her when he can’t feel anything?
Oberon’s desire is icy, devoid of all tenderness. Not only must Kathryn match wits with him, she must also fight her reaction to his touch, because there is so much more at stake than her own endangered heart.
For the Dark Court faces its most deadly peril yet. Its ancient enemy Isabeau, Queen of the Light Court, is obsessed with its annihilation, and Oberon must be brought to remember his loyalty and affection for his people.
Because if he won’t fight for them, Lyonesse itself may very well be destroyed…
Holly: I am SO FREAKING EXCITED for this book. Oberon! AAAHHH!
Casee: This really makes me want to catch up so I can read this book.
The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox.
Two centuries after the Salem witch trials, there’s still one witch left in Massachusetts. But she doesn’t even know it.
Take this as a warning: if you are not able or willing to control yourself, it will not only be you who suffers the consequences, but those around you, as well.
New Oldbury, 1821
In the wake of a scandal, the Montrose family and their three daughters—Catherine, Lydia and Emeline—flee Boston for their new country home, Willow Hall.
The estate seems sleepy and idyllic. But a subtle menace creeps into the atmosphere, remnants of a dark history that call to Lydia, and to the youngest, Emeline.
All three daughters will be irrevocably changed by what follows, but none more than Lydia, who must draw on a power she never knew she possessed if she wants to protect those she loves. For Willow Hall’s secrets will rise, in the end…
Holly: I love creepy gothic tales, especially around Halloween. I can’t wait to read this one.

Once Upon a Wild Fling (Heartbreakers #3) by Lauren Blakely .
There are a million reasons why Miles Hart isn’t the man I should date but allow me to enumerate the top three.
He’s friends with my brother, he’s a single dad, and he’s a sexy, in-demand rock star. He might as well wear an off-limits, totally unavailable, and don’t-even-attempt-to-ride-this-ride sign. And there’s one more, little itty-bitty thing — he’s never asked me on a date.
That is, until he asks me to be his plus-one when his band plays at his high school reunion. It shouldn’t be a big deal. After all, we’re just friends, and no one is giving us our own hashtag. Except me . . .
***
I have three good reasons to keep my hands off Roxy Sterling—her brother’s my business manager, my kid is the center of my world, and the last time I fell hard for a woman I was burned so badly that my interest in relationships has gone up in flames. But once I bring Roxy’s body next to mine on the dance floor, I want all the not-safe-for-work things I can’t have with her.
My brain knows there’s no way for us to work, but tell that to my big mouth. Because the second she plants a hot, sexy kiss on me, I have the bright idea to ask her to keep being my plus one—turning one night into a few. What’s the harm in spending a little more time with her and having her by my side at all these events? Nothing at first, until I learn exactly how risky we might be.
Holly: I have a thing for Lauren Blakely Books, Rock Stars and Single Dads. A hot single dad rock-star book by Lauren Blakely? Be still my heart.
Rowena: Ever since Holly and I read Wanderlust together, I’ve been itching to read another Lauren Blakely. So of course this is on my list for this month. It looks good!
Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh.
Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, is thrust center stage into an eons-old prophecy….

Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before it’s too late and Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering in New York and across the world.
In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.
This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.
Holly: Of all Singh’s works, I love this series best. I can’t wait for the next chapter with Elena and Raphael.
Casee: YASSSSS. This is my favorite of Nalini’s series.
Rowena: One of these days, I’m going to catch up on this series. Casee and Holly love it too much for me not to love it too.

Casee: A new series by Gena Showalter! I can’t wait.
Rowena: Casee brought this author and this book onto my radar so I’m very interested in reading this one.
Consumed (Firefighters #1) by J.R. Ward.
Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed…
By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.
Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.
Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn’t believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again–until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.
Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.
From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.
Casee: Regardless of my feelings for the BDB, JRW is a good writer. I really enjoyed The Bourbon Kings series, so I’m looking forward to giving this one a try.
Death is Not Enough (Baltimore #6) by Karen Rose.
In his work as a defense attorney in Baltimore, Thorne has always been noble to a fault–specializing in helping young people in trouble just as someone did for him when he was younger. After four years, he thinks he might finally be ready to confess his feelings, come what may.
But his plans are derailed when he wakes up in bed with a dead woman–her blood on his hands and no recollection of how he got there. Whoever is trying to frame Thorne is about to lead him down the rabbit hole of his past, something he thought he had outran long ago. Thorne must figure out who has been digging into his secrets, how much they know, and how far they will go to bring him down .
Casee: A new book by Karen Rose! The queen of romantic suspense is back.
America’s Sweetheart (Real Love #5) by Jessica Lemmon.
Old flames burn bright. When a disgraced starlet returns home to lick her wounds, she discovers that her high school sweetheart is just as tempting as ever.
“No one writes big-hearted bad boys like Jessica Lemmon!”—New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster
Allison: When I left for California, I gave myself a new name and never looked back. Now my carefully crafted good-girl image is getting torn to shreds in the press thanks to my Oscar-winning A-hole of an ex-boyfriend. So I escape to the only safe haven I know and trust—my hometown—to take a breather while I plot my triumphant Hollywood comeback. However, when I arrive at my parents’ house, Jackson Burke answers the door instead. And suddenly the past comes rushing back. . . .
Jackson: First kiss. First time. First love. Yep, Allison Murphy and I shared a lot of firsts back in the day. When she left, she took half my heart with her. Now she’s back in town, and even though I swore I’d keep my distance, her parents hired me to remodel their house, and I’m going to finish the job. But one hot kiss later, suddenly the press is calling us the next big celebrity couple. Sure, I’ll play the part, for Allison’s sake—but I refuse to let her close enough to break my heart all over again. . . .
Rowena: I’m really enjoying this series and in the last few books, Jessica Lemmon has been bringing the good stuff so I’m looking forward to getting to know Jax and Allison. I was curious about Jax in the last book and I’m hoping that we’ll get to see some Barrett Fox because I liked him.
Fall (VIP #3) by Kristen Callihan.
The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways.
In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip.
Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands.
Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor.
An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room.
Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun.
Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything.
All we have to do is trust enough to fall.
Rowena: I enjoyed the first two books in this series so I’m pretty stoked to finally be getting another book, and that it’s Jax’s book makes me happy. I can’t wait to read this one.
Fight or Flight by Samantha Young.
A series of chance encounters leads to a sizzling new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.
The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn’t hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava’s ever had. And that’s all it was–until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.
When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb’s orbit, he proposes they enjoy their physical connection while he’s stranded in Boston. Ava agrees, knowing her heart’s in no danger since a) she barely likes Caleb and b) his existence in her life is temporary. Not long thereafter Ava realizes she’s made a terrible error because as it turns out Caleb Scott isn’t quite so unlikeable after all. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them. But even if she does decide to risk her heart on Caleb, there is no guarantee her stubborn Scot will want to risk his heart on her….
Rowena: I’ve read enough of Samantha Young’s books to know that I want to continue to read whatever she puts out and this book in particular, sounds like my cup of tea so I’m totally in for reading this one.
Royally Yours (Royally #4) by Emma Chase.

Rowena: I enjoyed this series a lot and I loved the Princes and was looking forward to Jane’s story but that is not this book. This book is the Queen’s book? The Queen that is the grandmother to the Princes that we’ve read about in the previous books? Hmm…that’s interesting. I guess we’re going back in time to where it all started? Hmm again.

Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards #1) by Jennifer Estep.
Gladiator meets Game of Thrones: a royal woman becomes a skilled warrior to destroy her murderous cousin, avenge her family, and save her kingdom in this first entry in a dazzling fantasy epic from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Assassin series—an enthralling tale that combines magic, murder, intrigue, adventure, and a hint of romance
In a realm where one’s magical power determines one’s worth, Lady Everleigh’s lack of obvious ability relegates her to the shadows of the royal court of Bellona, a kingdom steeped in gladiator tradition. Seventeenth in line for the throne, Evie is nothing more than a ceremonial fixture, overlooked and mostly forgotten.
But dark forces are at work inside the palace. When her cousin Vasilia, the crown princess, assassinates her mother the queen and takes the throne by force, Evie is also attacked, along with the rest of the royal family. Luckily for Evie, her secret immunity to magic helps her escape the massacre.
Forced into hiding to survive, she falls in with a gladiator troupe. Though they use their talents to entertain and amuse the masses, the gladiators are actually highly trained warriors skilled in the art of war, especially Lucas Sullivan, a powerful magier with secrets of his own. Uncertain of her future—or if she even has one—Evie begins training with the troupe until she can decide her next move.
But as the bloodthirsty Vasilia exerts her power, pushing Bellona to the brink of war, Evie’s fate becomes clear: she must become a fearsome gladiator herself . . . and kill the queen.
Rowena: I got this book for review and was browsing through the book and I’m curious about it so I’m going to put it on my list. Gladiator meets Game of Thrones? Yep. I’m in.
Muffin Top (The Hartigans #2) by Avery Flynn.
The only thing about me that’s a size zero is the filter on my mouth. I’ve got a big personality, a big rack, and a big number on the scale. And I’m perfectly fine with that.
But when some random guy suggests I might not be eating alone if I’d ordered a salad instead of a hamburger I’m shocked silent, which is a feat, trust me.
That brings us to one sexy fireman named Frankie Hartigan. He’s hot. He’s funny… And he’s just apologized for being late for our “date” then glared at the fat-shaming jerk. Next thing I know, he’s sitting down and ordering himself dinner.
I have no problem telling him I don’t need a pity date…unless of course it’s to my high school reunion next week. Oops where did that last bit come from? And what do I do now that he’s said yes?!
Because this is no make-over story, and I think Frankie is using me for something. I just have to figure out what…
Rowena: I’ve been curious about this series since the first book came out and so reading the blurb for this book has me even more curious. I want to make room for it on my reading list so on my wish list it goes.
So there you have it. The books that the ladies of Book Binge are looking forward to in the month of October. What books are you looking forward to reading this month? Share in the comments!
oh my ladies…LOVE your list so much. I didn’t know about KA anthology, I feel like whenever I read her books there are always those side couples I want more depth in stories on. And I am excited for the anthology by Shupe, Dare, Maclean and Jordan. Some of my favorite regency authors. And its going to have a hardcover so I want it in print. Will look so pretty on my shelf.
I adore anything that Emma Chase writes, plus her royal series has been so entertaining.
I can’t wait to see what you think of all of these books. Happy October!!!
I agree, Emma Chase is pretty great!
Thanks for stopping by, Renee! 🙂
YES THEA HARRISON! I am so excited too! Truly, this is one of my most anticipated books for the whole year. I didn’t get an ARC and I’m super sad about that, because now I have to wait. Waaahhhh.
I’m also interested in the Gena Showalter book. I didn’t jump into her Lords of the Underworld series until book 13 (I know, I know!), and I really loved that one, but some of her earlier books in the series seemed kind of dated in a way. I feel like maybe I should just head straight into this new series instead of trying to catch up on the old one.
Beyond these two, though, nothing else is getting me too excited for October. I feel like I’ve been having a hard time finding great books lately. Nothing is grabbing my interest, and then when I do give one a try nothing is wowing me.
Hey Jen! I’m curious about the Gena Showalter too and I wasn’t curious about it until Casee brought it to my attention. Let us know if you end up reading it and what you think. 😉
Lots of enticing choices, so thank you for the list. I’m definitely interested in that new book by Thea Harrison.
You’re welcome, sweets! We hope October is good to you in new releases! 🙂
