Monthly Reads: February 2013

Posted March 11, 2013 by Rowena in Features | 13 Comments

Rowena: February wasn’t as great a reading month for me as January was (I only read 9 books) and a lot of those reads were re-reads but still, I got some reading done.  I read more romance than YA last month and so my YA blog didn’t get as many reviews written up for it.  Oh, well.

Here’s a list of what I read last month:

  1. The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts (4 out of 5)
  2. The Downfall of a Good Girl by Kimberly Lang (3 out of 5)
  3. Hooked by Liz Fichera (3 out of 5)
  4. Hitched! by Jessica Hart (4 out of 5)
  5. The Secret by Julie Garwood (4.5 out of 5)
  6. The Duke & I by Julia Quinn (4.5 out of 5)
  7. The Truth about Letting Go by Leigh T. Moore (4 out of 5)
  8. Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern (3 out of 5)
  9. The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding (4.75 out of 5)

My favorite read of the month was The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding.  That was a book that I read for a buddy review that I did with Ames over at Breezing Through.  I really enjoyed that book, loved the main character and enjoyed her journey to self discovery.  It was a well written that I think fans of contemporary YA will love.  My least favorite read last month would have to go to Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern.  This makes me sad because I used to love this book so but now? I’m in a different place in my life and it took too long for them to get their shit together and tell each other they were best friends.  This book could have been chopped in half and I probably would have enjoyed it more.

Holly: I re-read a lot of Garwood novels in February. It’s hard to stop at just one. In total, I read 16 books. 9 of them were re-reads.

  1. The Lion’s Lady by Juile Garwood (re-read) 4.5/5
  2. Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.5/5
  3. Worth Any Price by Lisa Kleypas (re-read) 4.5/5
  4. Lush by Lauren Dane 4.5/5
  5. Wrecked by Shiloh Walker 4/5
  6. Frost Burned by Mercy Thompson 4/5
  7. Because of You by Jessica Scott 4/5
  8. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (re-read) 4.5/5
  9. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (re-read) 4.25/5
  10. Ransom by Julie Garwood (re-read) 2.75/5
  11. The Secret by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.25/5
  12. On Dublin Street 3.75/5
  13. The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (re-read) 3.75/5
  14. Anything for You by Jessica Scott 3.25/5
  15. Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh (re-read) 4.25/5
  16. The Ambassador’s Daughter by Pam Jenoff 3/5

Of my re-reads, I’d say Worth Any Price, Saving Grace, The Lion’s Lady and The Secret were my favorites. WAP has long been at the top of my Kleypas favorites. The Garwood’s are just classic and so easy to fall into.

Aside from those, my favorite reads of the month were Wrecked by Shiloh Walker and Lush by Lauren Dane. Wrecked had a few slow parts, but overall it was a fun contemporary with one of my favorite themes – Friends to Lovers. Lush is a continuation of Dane’s Delicious series, which is a spinoff of the Brown Siblings series. I always love returning to this world. I’m also giving an honorable mention to Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs. I love the Mercy Thompson series and this one delivered.

My least favorite read of the month was Ransom by Julie Garwood. While I enjoy the first half of the novel, the second half never fails to leave me frustrated and angry. I know it’s a favorite for many, but it isn’t for me.

This month we’re giving away:

The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts
Wrecked by Shiloh Walker
Lush by Lauren Dane

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. 1. thanks for the awesome giveaway! Count me in for Lush or Wrecked 🙂 I read a lot of great books in February so it’s hard to pick a fav. So I’d have to say one of them was Exposed to You by Beth Kery and my least fav was a novella, She Devil by Melissa Kendall. It was more meh than bad.

  2. Lord of Darkness was probably my favorite read last month. Can’t week to read the next book in the series.

I would love to read Wrecked!

  3. Di

I’m reading and enjoying Anne Marsh’s ‘Slow Burn’ – the 2nd in a series about three Smoke Jumper/Firefighter brothers.

I would love to get ‘The Perfect Hope’ by Nora Roberts – I really enjoyed her Bride Quartet (really I enjoy all her books, old & new).

  4. My fav of the month so far is Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha! I don’t have a least fav read since I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read so far!

I would love to win either Wrecked by Shiloh Walker or Lush by Lauren Dane!

Favorite read of February was The Best Man by Kristan Higgins.

Would love to win Lush by Lauren Dane.

  6. february is another re-read month for me, so i only read my favorites books.

i’d love to win the perfect hope, the couple is so cute together

  7. Reread the first two books in the Up in The Air series by R.K. Lilley so I could finish up with Grounded. Loved all three.

Loved Rush by Maya Banks. Did lots of rereads of favorites, it was that kind of month.

Worst books: on purpose I read several old Diana Palmer books just to see how bad they were.

  8. My fave read of the month was hands down Julie James’ About That Night. It was smart, funny and very entertaining. Least fave was Summer Brides (3 in 1 novellas) by Susan Wiggs, Sheryl Woods and Susan Mallery. Only enjoyed the last 2 and I wished they were longer.

Would love to win Nora Roberts’ The Perfect Hope. Thanks!

  9. February’s favorite was Hunger Untamed by Pamela Palmer. I’ve been reading this series in order so it’s good to find out what is happening next as the books are all connected. Didn’t enjoy Melt into You by Lisa Plumley as much because the hero was a real jerk at the beginning, by the end I didn’t really care for him.

Please enter me for “The Perfect Hope” by Nora Roberts! 🙂 I love Nora’s books.

  10. My favorite was Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas. I didn’t really finish anything that I didn’t like last month. I would like to win any of the titles listed.
