Monthly Reads: December 2012.

Rowena: And we’re back…December was a pretty crappy reading month for me but it’s not surprising considering the holidays and wrapping up our 2012 basketball club season and all of that other stuff.

Here’s a list of the books that I read in December:

  1. Lying in Bed by Jo Leigh (2.75 out of 5)
  2. The Lady Most Willing by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway (3 out of 5)
  3. The Kiss Off by Sarah Billington (4 out of 5)
  4. The Perks of Seducing a Wallflower by Tessa Dare (4 out of 5)
  5. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams (2 out of 5)
  6. Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips (4.5 out of 5)
  7. Losing It by Cora Carmack (4 out of 5)

My favorite read for December is probably Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips.  I really enjoyed the characters and the romance.  I thought that Cara was a strong and smart heroine that was very likable and Mike was hot and sexy and everything I like in a hero.  My least favorite read of the month goes to Taking Chances by Molly McAdams.  I’m not against the whole love triangle bit but this love hexagon crap going on in that book just didn’t work for me.  I went into it, thinking that I was going to really like it but that wasn’t the case at all…it wasn’t my cup of tea and that sucked because I was really looking forward to it.  Oh well.

Holly: December was a pretty good reading month for me. I managed 16 books. That’s not too shabby considering I hosted Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Day brunch and Family Day (the day after Christmas) for about 25 people this year.

I continued on with my Kristen Ashley binge. I keep saying I’m done with her, then I take a break for a week or two and get sucked back in. I need an intervention.

  1. Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley
  2. Romancing the Holiday anthology
  3. A Gift for All Seasons by Karen Templeton
  4. Fortune’s Cinderella by Karen Templeton
  5. Alone Time (Visits to Petal, part 1) by Lauren Dane
  6. Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley
  7. Fiery Temptations by Victoria Davies
  8. Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley (re-read)
  9. The Gamble by Kristen Ashley (re-read)
  10. Giving Chase by Lauren Dane (re-read)
  11. Golden Trail by Kristen Ashley
  12. For You by Kristen Ashley
  13. At Peace by Kristen Ashley
  14. With Everything I Am by Kristen Ashley
  15. Losing It by Cora Carmack
  16. Already Home by Vicki Lewis Thompson

My favorite read of the month was Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley. Of The ‘Burg series, that’s the best one, IMO. I didn’t enjoy the other books nearly as much. Honorable mention goes to A Gift for All Seasons by Templeton. I love her stories. My least favorite read was With Everything I Am by Ashley.

This month, we’re giving away:

Perfect Fit by Carly Phillips
Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley (e-book only)

My least favorite (and it feels oh so wrong to put this author’s name in this category) was Jill Shalvis’ “Underneath the Mistletoe.” I didn’t realize it was a novella and really didn’t love the way the story unfolded.
It was also a really tough month because I read so many great books. Gosh, I’d have to call it for “Sweet Venom” by Tera Lynn Childs. I only gave it three stars but it totally engaged me and I think it’s a series that could build up to be something really fun.

I would love to read the new Carly Phillips in an ebook format.

  2. My favorite read in December was a tie between J.T. Ellison’s Edge of Black and Jennifer Ashley’s Mackenzie Family Christmas. My least favorite, unfortunately, was Eloisa James’s Seduced by a Pirate. I wanted to like this novella but it just didn’t work for me.

If I win the contest, I’d love a Kindle version of Carly’s Perfect Fit. Thanks so much.

  3. Thanks for the great update! You ladies put us all to shame by how much you read 🙂 My least favorite read for December was The Right Chord
by Elisabeth Rose. It was just… bad. Luckily it was a Kindle Lending library checkout so I don’t feel cheated out of anything but time. I had quite a few awesome reads so I’m just randomly picking a fav… Lord’s Fall by Thea Harrison.

Thanks for the awesome giveaway! I’m open to either book 🙂

  4. My favorite for the month was Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, which I read for my bookclub. It’s Litfic, but features a lovely romance between a 60 something retired English major and a 50 something widowed Pakistani shopkeeper in a small English village. Least favorite was One For the Road by Lynne Marshall – I just couldn’t connect with the characters.

I finally broke down, tried Motorcycle Man, and am now hooked on Kristen Ashley, so I’d love to win a Kindle copy of Games of the Heart.

  6. My favorite read was Carly Phillip’s Perfect Fit, followed by Sabrina Jeffries’ Twas The Night After Christmas.

I would like to win Kristen Ashley’s book since I have already read Carly’s book.

    Thanks for the chance.
