Author Interview (+ a Giveaway): Jill Shalvis

Posted November 9, 2012 by Holly in Giveaways, Promotions | 39 Comments

Today we have author Jill Shalvis here (again!) to talk about her latest release, Rescue My Heart, available now from Berkley. Jill is super busy writing, promoting this book and living a crazy I Love Lucy type of life, but we nabbed her for a quick interview.

Book Binge: I really enjoy the residents of Sunshine, Idaho. Can you tell our readers a bit about this series and where the idea for the town came from?

Jill Shalvis: I’ve always wanted to write a series where I could incorporate cute animals. Cute animals and sexy heroes together, who can resist that. So I came up with a series about a set of wildly alpha brothers running an animal center in Sunshine, Idaho at the base of the Bitteroot Mountains.

Book Binge: What can we expect from Adam and Holly in Rescue My Heart?

Jill Shalvis: Holly Reed is certain something bad has happened to her father on his hunting trip, and with a massive storm coming, she needs help. There’s only one man she knows can track her father – the man who once broke her heart. He’s also the one man she’d rather never “need” again. Adam Connelly.

Adam, back in the real world from being a S&R specialist in the National Guards, would like to just be left alone to do this thing, which is training S&R dogs and assisting at the Animal Center he runs with his brother Dell. He sure as hell doesn’t need to face yet another of his failures, but there she is, his biggest one, named Holly, staring up at him with her gorgeous eyes, needing him. He can’t commit to a dentist appointment, much less a woman, and yet he can’t fail her. Not again. Out in the wilds of the Idaho Bitterroot Mountains, they’ll each face their fears, and something else – the fact that they never stopped loving each other

Book Binge: Which was your favorite scene in the book to write? Why?

Jill Shalvis: Well I can’t give away my favorite scene or I’ll ruin the story, but I will say I loved putting Adam and Holly in the same place again after years apart and years of resentment and built up sexual tension and angst and yearning. Oh the tangled web I love to weave… J

Book Binge: Tell the truth, you modeled the heroine after our own Holly, didn’t you?

Jill Shalvis: Ha! Well I do love the name, and I do love your own Holly, very much! J

Book Binge: And just for fun: What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Jill Shalvis: Trip over the two dogs and the cat…

Thanks for spending some time with us today, Jill!

If you haven’t already, be sure to pick up this series. It’s got a great blend of humor and depth..you know, typical fare for Shalvis.
