Monthly Reads: December 2011.

Posted January 21, 2012 by Rowena in Features | 17 Comments

We’re crazy late getting this up. We all forgot about it. Maybe one day we’ll get caught up.

Rowena: December was a hurry up and get as many books read as possible month for me so that I could finish on top of my reading goal and I barely made it. But here’s what I read in the month of December:

  1. Hushed by Kelley York
  2. Blind Dates and Other Disasters by Ally Blake, Fiona Harper and Barbara Hannay
  3. Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
  4. Geek Girl by Cindy C. Bennett
  5. The Duke is Mine by Eloisa James
  6. Sign Language by Amy Ackler
  7. Trouble at the Wedding by Laura Lee Guhrke
  8. Secrets by Freya North
  9. Addison Blakely: Confessions of a PK by Betsy St. Amant
  10. Scrumptious by Amanda Usen
  11. Ditched by Robin Mellom
  12. First Date by Krista McGee
  13. All I Want Is You by Sherrill Bodine
  14. The Whole Story of Half a Girl by Veera Hiranandani
  15. The Darlings in Love by Melissa Kantor
  16. Stay Tuned by Lauren Clark

My favorite romance read of December goes to The Duke is Mine by Eloisa James. It was such a fun, steamy romance and I really enjoyed it. I loved the hero, the heroine rocked and the happy ending was cute so what’s not to love? An honorable mention goes out to Scrumptious by Amanda Usen. I enjoyed that story as well and loved the behind the scenes in the kitchen. I’m really looking forward to more books by her.

Holly: December was another slow reading month. I just couldn’t focus on any of the books I picked up. It was kind of depressing.  I read 7.5 books.

  1. A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean 5/5
  2. Holiday Kisses: A Holiday Romance Collection by Shannon Stacey 4/5
  3. His Bonnie Bride by Hannah Howell (re-read) 4.5/5
  4. How To Dance with a Duke by Manda Collins 3.75/5
  5. The Husband Hunt by Lynsay Sands 2.75/5
  6. Guardian of Honor by Robin D. Owens 3/5
  7. Any given Christmas by Candis Terry 2.75/5
  8. Sorceress of Faith by Robin D. Owens DNF

My favorite read of the month was hands down A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean. My least favorite read of the month was Any Given Christmas by Candis Terry. The heroine drove me absolutely crazy and I hated how the town blamed the hero for everything.

This month, we’re giving away:
A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean (pre-order)
The Duke is Mine by Eloisa James

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

  1. All righty, let me think.
Definitely Froi of the Exiles by the incomparable Melina Marchetta – which comes out this March, I think – I read the Egalley last December and I fell in love with the book. 😉

Another favorite was A Tale of Two Proms by Cara Lockwood because I’m such a huge fangirl of that series

My least favorite was The Gathering Storm. it was book fail all around for me.

  2. I have a three-way tie for favorite book read in December: Romancing the Countess by Ashley March, The Restorer by Amanda Stevens, and The Strangers on Montagu Street by Karen White. My least favorite was Leslie Kelley’s Don’t Open before Christmas. It wasn’t terrible, just a bit predictable and forgettable for my tastes.

If I win, I’d love the new Sarah MacLean book. Thanks. (Email in profile.)

  3. Read so many good books in December! Favorite in the romance category was Curio by Cara McKenna but in fiction, The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan was also really amazing. Most disappointing was One Grave at Time by Frost — the series just isn’t doing it for me any more. 🙁

Put me in for The Duke is Mine, please.

  4. Kim

My favorite December read was How the Marquess Was Won by Julie Anne Long. A disappointing read was The Hometown Hero, a Harlequin Special Edition. It wasn’t bad, but given the good reviews, I was expecting more.

If I win, I’d like sarah Maclean’s book.

  5. My favorites were “True Colors” by Thea Harrison and “Christmas in Lucky Habor: Simply Irresistible/The Sweetest Thing” by Jill Shalvis….I picked up Shalvis after a review on here so thank you!
My least favorite was “Spirit Bound” by Christine Feehan. I read the previous book but this book was hard to read, it did not flow for me and I felt like there was just too much going on.

“A Rogue by Any Other Name” would be my choice!

  6. I only read Christmas books in December, and the best one was Lisa Kleypas’ CHRISTMAS EVE AT FRIDAY HARBOR. My least favorite, but not a bad book, was HOME IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS by Heather Graham.

Please toss my name in the hat for THE DUKE IS MINE. Thanks!

  7. Thanks for the awesome giveaway! Please enter me for The Duke is Mine by Eloisa James (I already have Sarah Maclean’s book preordered for my kindle 🙂 )

I had a lot of favorite reads for December!!! Can’t pick just one, so my favorite reads for December would probably have to be: Romancing the Countess by Ashley March, Shadow City (Horngate Witches 3) by Diana Pharaoh Francis, Alien Proliferation (Katt 3) by Gini Koch, and Bloodstone (Deadtown 3) by Nancy Holzner. Honorable Mentions would be Silent Blade and Silver Shark by Ilona Andrews. My least favorite book of December would Explosive 18 by Janet Evanovich. I loved that series until it got into the double digits and it’s starting to suffer from the repeats. And the triangle is just… old.

Thanks again and good luck on reaching your reading goals! I’m on a roll for January so I’m hoping it continues!!!

  8. I had a fair number of very good reads in December, but no great ones. My favorites were Brand New Me by Meg Benjamin and Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep. Least favorites were a couple of books I picked up for free – republished category romances that just didn’t do it for me.

I would love to win the Sarah Maclean book. I’ve already read The Duke is Mine.

  9. My favorite read had to be A BORROWED SCOT by Karen Ranney.

My least favorite was GEEK GIRL by Cindy C. Bennett – I just put this in the category of what was I thinking?

I would love to read “A Rogue by Any Other Name” by Sarah MacLean thank you.

  12. salvador

My favorite read Head over Hills by Jill Shalvis and Reconcilable Differences by Elizabeth Ashtree. My least favorite was Because of the list by Amy Knupp because of the slow pacing of the book.

I would like to have Sarah Maclean’s book if I win. Thanks.

  13. My favourite reads of the month were Elizabeth Hoyt’s Legend of the Four Soldiers series. I love her books. Can’t think of any books I didn’t like.

I’d love to win A Rogue by any Other Name.

  14. My favorite was An Unexpected Gentleman by Alissa Johnson. My least favorite was Prey by Linda Howard. I would love to win either book.

  15. Julie at Outlandish Dreaming

For December, no real stands out 5 star books, but I had a couple that I really liked. I think my favorite was The Other Guy’s Bride by Connie Brockway, but I also really enjoyed Reforming a Rake by Suzanne Enoch. My biggest disappointment was In Bed With the Highlander by Maya Banks.

Thanks for the drawing, if I win, please put me in for A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean.

    Thanks!

  16. I didn’t read a ton of books during December but the ones I read very pretty good.
One of my favourites was Carla Kelly’s Marrying the Captain (had that quite some time in my tbr pile). I love her writing! I also read the Carina Christmas anthologies and really enjoyed them, too.

I’d love to win the Sarah MacLean book, please.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. Devil’s Bride by Stephanie Laurens, Any Given Christmas by Candis Terry and Shotgun Groom by Ruth Ann Nordin were really good. I didn’t read anything that wasn’t ok or I didn’t finish…

A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean would be my choice…
