Book Trailers – Useful or just fun to watch?

Tessa Dare’s Stud Club

I adore this video!  It tells me about the book and lets me know that the author has a sense of humor as well which when I watch the vid makes me think that the books might have humor in them as well.  But in truth I had already decided to read the Stud Club trilogy prior to seeing this video.

I have to say that this is the exception to the rule for me when it comes to trailers.  I don’t normally watch them and when I do it’s just for fun. They really don’t make me want to read the book any more than I did before – or at all.  Why is that?  I don’t have a clue! lol  Part of me thinks that it’s because I don’t care for movies that are made from books (except a rare few) and therefore I don’t want to see a visual of what the book is about.  Does that make sense?  Another part thinks that if I really didn’t get the gist of the book by reading the blurb then why would a trailer push me over the edge?

So what do you think about book trailers?  Do you watch them and if you do, do they sway you one way or the other to read the book?

  1. I can probably count on one hand the number of book trailers I've watched… and Tessa Dare's is one of them. I viewed it with an m/m filter, which made it very funny. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I never watch book trailers, but that was hilarious. Maybe it's me, but the frog almost looked like he (she?) was pleading for the dice to roll well. And I love the props not used!

I'm going to have to watch it again now ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I avoid book trailers because they are usually low quality and tend to be very uncreative.

BUT this one is just flat out entertaining! An exception for sure.

Reminds me of the BDB barbie skits.

  4. Chris – It's a great video but them m/m slant is fun too.

Orannia- Tessa Dare definitely has a good sense of humor. ๐Ÿ˜‰

SVZ-That might be it for me…low quality and a lot aren't very creative.

  5. I don't usually like book trailers because they are usually over-dramatic and pretty sappy, but if I hadn't already read the books, this one would make me want to read them. Funny.

  6. SidneyKay – Yeah, a lot are sappy. I find that the people who make them try to make the pictures fit the words EXACTLY and sometimes that irks me as I might have my own interpretation. *shrugs* IDK.
