Monthly Reads: February 2011

Posted March 11, 2011 by Holly in Features | 41 Comments

Holly: If I’m going to meet my 211 books in 2011 reading goal, I need to read an average of 18 books a month. Unfortunately I fell 1 book short this month.

1. Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke’s Heart by Sarah MacLean 4.5/5
2. What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long 4.75/5
3. The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis 4.25/5
4. Hunting Julian by Jaquelyn Frank 3.25/5
5. Always by Jeane Renick (re-read) 4.5/5
6. The Guy Next Door anthology 4/5
7. Rules of an Engagement by Suzanne Enoch 4.25/5
8. A Lady’s Guide to Improper Behavior by Suzanne Enoch 4/5
9. Happy Endings by Katherine Stone (re-read) 4/5
10. Bed of Roses by Katherine Stone 4.25/5
11. Turn it On by Vivian Arend 4.25/5
12. Turn it Up by Vivian Arend 3.75/5
13. True Colors by Joyce Lamb 3.75/5
14. The Other Twin by Katherine Stone (re-read) 3.75/5
15. A Basket of Wishes by Rebecca Paisley 3.75/5
16. Mesmerized by Lauren Dane 4.75/5
17. Twins by Katherine Stone 3.5/5

I was on a Katherine Stone kick toward the end of the month. I still have a ton of her books in my TBR pile (she’s best taken in small doses). My favorite reads of the month were Mesmerized by Lauren Dane and What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long. I adored both equally. My least favorite read of the month was Hunting Julian by Jacquelyn Frank. I enjoyed it, but not as much as many of the others I read this month.

Rowena:

Last month sucked as far as reading went for me. I slipped into a reading funk that I’m still kind of in. I didn’t read very many books in February but I’m hoping with everything I got that I’ll bounce back from this. Here’s what I read last month:

  1. The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group by Catherine Jinks. (3 out of 5)
  2. What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long. (4.5 out of 5)
  3. The Back of Sean Griswold’s Head by Lindsey Leavitt. (4.5 out of 5)
  4. Seducing the Governess by Margo Maguire. (4 out of 5)
  5. Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson. (4.5 out of 5)
  6. Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison. (4 out of 5)
  7. Eleven Scandals to Start to win a Duke’s Heart by Sarah MacLean. (4 out of 5)
  8. Other Words for Love by Lorraine Zago Rosenthal. (4 out of 5)
  9. The Crepe Makers Bond by Julie Crabtree. (DNF)

Nine books. That’s pathetic. I’m embarrassed but eager to do better this month. My favorite read last month was What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long. I also enjoyed the heck out of Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson and Eleven Scandals to Start to win a Duke’s Heart by Sarah MacLean. All of those books had me cracking up, sighing and just all around happy. I can’t wait for more from all of those authors and I’m anxious for their books to release.

Casee:

I traveled for work in February, so I was able to read while I was in transit. That was nice. It also enabled me to ignore the man that didn’t know how to keep his freaking elbow to himself. Hello, personal space.

My total reads for the year is still disappointingly low. It’s depressing just looking at the it. Without further ado, here is my list for February:

1. Frostfire by Lynn Viehl (4/5)
2. Deadly Dreams by Kylie Brant (4.5/5)
3. Hidden Away by Maya Banks (4/5)
4. Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (4/5)
5. Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole (4.5/5)
6. Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh (5/5)
7. Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison (4.5/5)
8. Navarro’s Promise by Lora Leigh (4.25/5)

I have to admit that the number is low for February, but I did read some damn good books.

This month we’re giving away:

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long
Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson (a pre-order)
Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

  1. In February, my top reads were Ava Gray’s Skin Tight, ZA Maxfield’s Physical Therapy, and Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism.

My least favorite read in February was Robyn Carr’s Temptation Ridge. I had been on a Virgin River roll most of Feb, but this one “cured” me of it for a while.

This month I read–and really liked– Perils of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long, so I’d choose What I Did for a Duke by her! 🙂

  2. I def. would Love Any Man of Mine,

I am currently reading Julia London’s A Light At Winter’s End and enjoying it very much. Have waited to see Wyatt get his hea.

  3. Oooh! Please put me down for Any Man of Mine! I (heart) Rachel Gibson and own everything she’s ever written!

My most favorite read last month was The A-Z Guide to Arranged Marriage by Rekha Waheed and my least favorite was Moonlighting by Kate Lace. I’m on a British chick-lit binge at the moment and have found some new favorite authors and great books and a few duds as well.

  4. Misread your post. I still would love the Rachel Gibson book.

But re Feb reads, most fav was the Catherine Anderson book Here to Stay and Least fav was On Shadow Beach. I did like the book but only read a few – wish I could read as many as you guys and since I had to pick a least fav that would be it.

  6. Hello,

My favorite read of the month was When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James. Honorable mention to Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis. My least favorite was Against the Wind by Kat Martin – I usually love her books, but this one was not as engaging for me as her other books.

I would like the Rachel Gibson upcoming book – Any Man of Mine.

    Thanks

  7. Luci

February was super pathetic for me – just 6 books! I did discover a new author – Monica McCarty – am enjoying her books. My favourite read though was Eloisa James’ When Beauty Tamed the Beast – there was some awesome H/h interaction.

Would love to win the Julie Anne Long!

  8. My favorite reads of the month were River Marked by Patricia Briggs and Play of Passion by Nalini Singh.

I’d love Any Man of Mine.

  9. My favorite read was Rapture Untamed by Pamela Palmer and my least favorite was Venus in Blue Jeans by Meg Benjamin. I would love to win What I Did for a Duke!

My two top books for February were When Beauty Tamed the Beast and Play of Passion (I glommed this whole series in late January/early February). The worst book I read in February was A Midnight Clear. Fortunately, it was a library book, not a purchase like my top two.

All three books you’re offering sound good, but I think I would pick What I Did for a Duke because I’ve enjoyed her other books quite a lot.

Least Favorite Read – Animal Magnetism

I didn’t have a least favorite. But my favorite read was A Werewolf in Manhattan by Vicki Lewis Thompson.

  13. My favorite read for the month was the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. My least favorite…hmmm…I’ve been reading a lot of new to me authors lately and I’ve been enjoying them all. I guess if I had to pick I’d say Raziel by Kristina Douglas. Like I said, I liked the book a lot, but not quite as much as the others I’ve been reading.

The book I would like to win is Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole. I love that series!

My favorite read of February was Shadowfever by KMM (so good!)…honorable mention to Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis 🙂

No least favorite for last month.

February was a slow month for me. The most interesting book I read was Wired to Care: How Companies Prosper When They Create Widespread Empathy. I least enjoyed Fireworks.

Unusually easy this month – When Beauty Tamed the Beast was best, hands down. Most disappointing – Something About You by Julie James. I just did not get whatever it was that made everyone else love this. Ah well.

Now what’s hard – choosing a book from that awesome lineup! They all sounds so good, but I’ll wish for the Kresley Cole. — willaful

  17. One of my favorite read of the month was HIDDEN AWAY by Maya Banks. Also, I just started reading Susan Wiggs’ series The Lakeshore Chronicles. I have only read the first three books of the series so far, but I really liked them.

No least favorite for this month.

I would love to read Julie Anne Long’s book WHAT I DID FOR A DUKE.

  19. I read a lot of really great books in February, however, my favorite was The Color of Heaven by Julianne MacLean writing as E.V. Mitchell. My least favorite was Secrets of Paris by Luanne Rice. I’d like to read Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole (although any of them would be wonderful!). Thanks.

  20. I’ve had a pretty good reading month as I rediscovered Emma Jensen’s awesome Entwined. Probably my favorite new read in February is A Grand Design by Emma Jensen, although I really enjoyed Moonlit as well. My least favorite read was My Lord Stranger by Eve Byron. I don’t usually finish books I can’t get into, so if I am not into it by page 50, I’ll move onto something else. Please enter me into the running for Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole.

  21. Was a slow reading month for me! I think I only read about 2 or 3 so far! I’m enjoying Animal Magnetism right now by Jill Shalvis. Its very funny and sexy! I don’t think I read a bad book this month.
I love Rachel Gibson especially her her Hot Hockey books so they are a autobuy for me! So I would love to win JAL’s What I did for a Duke! I did read The Perils of Pleasure and liked it!

  24. The best book I read in February was Fallen From Grace by Laura Leone. Definitely not for everyone though as the hero is a high-priced male prostitute. My least favorite was To Kill a Warlock by HP Mallory.

I’ve heard great things about What I Did For a Duke, so that would be my top pick, but I’d be happy with any of them.

  25. I’d love to win Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole

Best book last month, hard one since I read so many good ones. But Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran was just so well written. Worst was Moonstruck Madness by Laurie McBain

  26. My favorite books of the month were The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jenifer Ashley and This side of the grave by Jeaniene Frost. My least favorite book was Sarah’s child by Linda Howard.
The book I would like to win is Any man of mine by Rachel Gibson

  27. I’m on a category reading binge at the moment. I just read an odler Blaze book by Kathleen O’Reilly (Sex, Straight Up) and I loved it. Have to find the other ones in this series now. I don’t really have a least favorite this month.

I would love to win either Any Man of Mine or What I Did for a Duke!
    Thanks!

  28. Di

Oh My God – Decisions, Decisions – I try to avoid them on the weekend! I would love any of the three books, but if pushed would choose ‘What I Did for A Duke’. I’m currently reading an older anthology ‘Tapestry’ with the lead author Lynn Kurland.

  30. My favourite for February was Heidi Cullinan’s Nowhere Ranch.

Please count me in for What I Did For A Duke by Julie Ann Long. thx!

  31. Hmmm…I would say my favorite was Perils of Pleasure, and my least favorite was…the Untamed Bride simply because I couldn’t finish it and I think S.L. Is better in small doses and I had recently read the Reckless Bride so it felt like the same durn book.

  32. My favorite for the month was Julie Anne Long’s Like No Other Lover. Least favorite was Tori Carrington’s Love Bites. If I win, I’d like What I Did for a Duke or Any Man of Mine. Thanks. (Email in profile.)

  33. I’d have to say my favorite was The Countess by Lynsay Sands. My least favorite would have to be Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison. I couldn’t finish it. Just not my cup of tea.

As for which one I would want if I won, it would be What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  34. Mmmmm, least favorite was Prelude To A Scandal by Delilah Marvelle. Such pretty covers, but I’m giving up this trilogy right here at book one.

Most favorite of February was Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl. Not brain surgery, but it made me sigh, smile and laugh. Love that feeling when I’m reading romance. 🙂

If my name is drawn, I’d like the Gibson title. Thanks!

  36. Favourite read of February – Call me irresistible by SEP – how does she do it?.
Least favourite – Mr and Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two shall become One by Sharon Latham – basically Lizzie and Darcy going at it like rabbits and something I don’t want to read about.

I’d love Any Man of Mine.

  37. Pam S (pams00)

Great Lists ladies! My monthly total was low for me as well – with only 10,11 books.

One of favs was A Highlander’s Homecoming by Melissa Mayhue and least fave I guess was Married with Zombies by Jenna Petersen.
