Monthly Reads: December 2010.

Holly: I did hardly any re-reading in December. Over the last few months I’ve been doing more re-reading than new-reading, but I managed to read some upcoming releases. Unfortunately I didn’t read many that are out this month. They’re either being released in a few months or were released a few years ago.

Veil of Night by Linda Howard 3.75/5
Winter Wishes anthology w/ Vivian Arend, Vivi Andrews and Moira Rogers 4.5/5
The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton 4.5/5
After the Music by Christine Feehan 4.25/5
How to Woo a Reluctant Lady by Sabrina Jeffries 4/5
Ice by Linda Howard 4/5
Delicious by Sherry Thomas 4.25/5
Burning Up by Susan Andersen 4/5
Black Ties and Lullabies by Jane Graves 4/5
Home for the Holidays by Sarah Mayberry 4/5
Then He Kissed Me by Christie Ridgway 4.25/5
Inside Out by Lauren Dane (re-read) 4/5
Coming Undone by Lauren Dane (re-read) 4.5/5

Honestly, my favorite read of the month was the Winter Wishes anthology. I just can’t get the Vivi Andrews novella out of my head. I also really liked Delicious by Sherry Thomas. I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to read it. Honorable mentions go to Ice and Veil of Night by Linda Howard, because I was so pleased to see her heading back in the right direction.

Rowena:

December was a busy month for me reading wise and I didn’t read a lot of romance novels, I don’t think. I’m on a YA kick at the moment and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any but I’m sure that will change any time soon. *sigh*

Here’s what I read:

Single in the City by Michele Forman (DNF)
The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa (4 out of 5)
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (4.75 out of 5)
Cryer’s Cross by Lisa McMann (4.5 out of 5)
The Outside Boy by Jeanine Cummins (4 out of 5)
The Duke’s Night of Sin by Kathryn Caskie (3.75 out of 5)
The Lady Most Likely To by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway (4 out of 5)
If I Stay by Gayle Forman (4.5 out of 5)
Taken by Desire by Lavinia Kent (DNF)
Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers (4 out of 5)

I had a couple of books that I just couldn’t get into and gave up on my third try on both books. Nothing was drawing me in and so I moved the reading party along. My favorite read of the month was Unearthly by Cynthia Hand but it’s YA so instead of giving that away, I’m going to give away a copy of The Lady Most Likely To by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway which I enjoyed so good luck!

This month we’re giving away:

The Lady Most Likely To by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway
Winter Wishes anthology w/ Vivian Arend, Vivi Andrews and Moira Rogers (ebook)

So what did you read last month? Anything good? Anything bad? Share us your lists and good luck! By now you should know the drill, just leave a comment and share with us your favorite and least favorite reads of last month and let us know what book you want to be win and we’ll throw your name into that particular hat.

Thanks and good luck!

  1. I read 17 books in December. My favorite was Gini Koch’s Touched by an Alien. What a fun book! It was a good reading month for me. I liked everything I read. If I win, I’d like The Lady Most Likely. Thanks. (Email in profile.)

  2. Oh glad to hear Howard’s coming back around! I may give her a try again. I haven’t read much of her new stuff.

I read Libertine’s Kiss by Judith James and loved it!

  3. Last month some of my favorite books thatI read included Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead, Marked by the Moon by Lori Handeland, and Cruel Enchantment by Anya Bast.

I didn’t read a lot last month, but I really enjoyed Stephanie Tyler’s Promises in the Dark. I DNF Laura Ruby’s Play Me, a YA novel, because I checked the end and saw it didn’t have an HEA, which I need to fully enjoy a book if it’s what I’m expecting going into it.

Either book in the contest sounds good. Thanks!

  5. Last month I discovered my library carried e-books so I glommed a bunch of the older works of favorite authors. I just couldn’t justify shelling out $8 for books that were a decade old, so thanks, D.C. e-library! I read “A Notorious Love” and “After the Abduction” by Sabrina Jeffries, “Then Came You,” “Devil in Winter,” and “Dreaming of You” by Lisa Kleypas, and “Lord of Scoundrels” by Loretta Chase. Actually, looking back at it, that was a pretty fantastic reading month! I loved them all, but I think Lord of Scoundrels might be the only one I purchase for re-reads (until the e-books prices come down at least). I’d love to win either book. omlekud at gmail dot com

  6. Holly has intrigued me with her mention of Linda Howard – I had to stop because the last book I read by her was so boring and bland. I hadn’t heard any different about her latest releases until now. Will put them on a to be check out list 😉

I’m thinking the book The Lady Most Likely To might be interesting.

  7. I had several very good reads – Fatal Affair by Marie Force, Long Time Gone by Meg Benjamin, Romeo, Romeo by Robin Kaye, but my favorite was a reread of Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

Least favorite was Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear – it didn’t grab me.

I’d be happy with either of the books. They are both on my wishlist.

other than 1 book over xmas wknd all my reading was done at the start of the month. I most enjoyed the 3 Dec releases I read then (Taken by Desire,Wicked Nights w/ a Lover & Highland Protector).

my pick would be Lady Most Likely as I haven’t got my hands on it yet

  9. I read the Iron Duke by Meljean Brook and enjoyed it very much. I had never read anything like it so hopefully she will make a series of it. I would love to win The Lady Most Likely To by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway

  10. Hi, i mostly reread the Immortals after dark before reading Demon from the dark which ended up being my favourite of the month becos I can’t remember any of the others. my least favourite was Truly Madly Yours by Rachel Gibson becos I’ve seen it on so many lists as a favourite and thought it was meh.
you can put me down for the lady most likely .

I read two Mary Balogh novels: her new anthology, Bespelling Jane Austen and her other re-release, A Christmas Promise. I didn’t care for the anthology. The reincarnation storyline had too many flaws and the other stories didn’t hold my interest. I enjoyed A Christmas Promise.

Please put me in the drawing for The Lady Most Likely To.

  12. December was a pretty slow month for me due to Christmas. But I started Lorelei James’ Rough Riders series and I loved the first book! I tend to be wary of Erotic Romance because sometimes there is just no story to it. But I really loved Long Hard Ride!
Please put me in the drawing for The Lady Most Likely. Thanks!
