Monthly Reads: October

Casee: October wasn’t too bad for me. I got quite a few books from the library, which is new. I do tend to utilize the library when it comes to my kids, but not myself. The library in the town that I live in is rather small so their selection is pretty limited. I was still able to get some books that I’ve been wanting to read, but didn’t want to pay for (helllllo, Linda Howard). Notice that there is not one link to a review? That’s because I SUCK!

1. Ice by Linda Howard (2/5)
2. Aching For Always by Gwyn Cready (3/5)
3. Second Chances by Lauren Dane (4/5)
4. Veil of Night by Linda Howard (3/5)
5. Unforgivable by Laura Griffin (4/5)
6. Desperate Choices by Kathy Ivan (3/5)
7. The Homecoming by JoAnn Ross (4.25/5)
8. No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon (3.5/5)
9. Night Betrayed by Joss Ware (4/5)
10. Breakpoint by JoAnn Ross (4/5)
11. Ride the Fire by Jo Davis (4/5)
12. No Place to Run by Maya Banks (4.5/5)
13. Crave by J.R. Ward (4/5)
14. Shattered by JoAnn Ross (4/5)
15. Dark Price by Christine Feehan (4.25/5)
16. Dark Desire by Christine Feehan (4.5/5)
17. Warrior Avenged by Addison Fox (4.25/5)
18. Dark Gold (3.5/5)
19. Dark Magic (4/5)
20. Skin Heat by Ava Gray (4.5/5)
21. Master of Smoke by Angela Knight (4.25/5)

Holly: October was a strange month for me. I was still in the mother of all slumps until I started re-reading some old favorites. Then my reading picked up. I mostly re-read Linda Howard. Just because it’s Linda Howard.

1. Now You See Her by Linda Howard (re-read) 4.75/5
2. Cry No More by Linda Howard (re-read) 5/5
3. Daisy’s Back in Town by Rachel Gibson (re-read) 4.75/5
4. Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson (re-read) 4.75/5
5. Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas 4/5
6. A Game of Chance by Linda Howard (re-read) 3.5/5
7. Mackenzie’s Magic by Linda Howard (re-read) 3.25/5
8. Mackenzie’s Pleasure by Linda Howard (re-read) 4/5
9. Mackenzie’s Mission by Linda Howard (re-read) 3.75/5
10. Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard (re-read) 4.5/5
11. Kill and Tell by Linda Howard (re-read) 3.5/5
12. Ascension by Lauren Dane 3.75/5
13. Undertow by Moira Rogers 4.25/5
14. Midnight Rainbow by Linda Howard (re-read) 4.25/5
15. Undeniably Yours by Shannon Stacey 4/5
16. Fire and Rain by Lauren Dane 3.25/5
17. To Save the Devil by Kate Moore 3.25/5
18. Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas (re-read) 4.5/5
19. Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis 4.5/5

Notice 12 out of the 19 books I read were re-reads? I really enjoyed falling back into some of my favorite Howard and Kleypas reads. I can’t choose a favorite read of the month. I re-read too many old favorites to pick one. My most disappointing read of the month was probably Kill and Tell by Linda Howard. I remember really enjoying it the first dozen times I read it, but I was disgusted by Marc’s actions this time around.

Rowena: October was a darned good reading month for me. I read a lot and was super stoked for it too.

  2. That Summer by Sarah Dessen. (4 out of 5)
  3. Next Summer by Hailey Abbott. (3 out of 5)
  4. Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti. (4 out of 5)
  5. The Reckless Bride by Stephanie Laurens. (4 out of 5)

  7. Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas. (4.5 out of 5)

  15. Scandal of the Year by Laura Lee Guhrke. (4.5 out of 5)
  16. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride.
  17. Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John. (4.5 out of 5)

  1. Rachel Gibson has worked her way up to one of my favorite romance authors! I haven’t read Simply Irresistible yet so I would love a chance to read that!! All of your October Reads sound great! I really take your scale ratings when searching for my next read!

  2. I read 18 books this month. My favorite was a non-romance book—Michael Connelly’s The Reversal. In romance, my favorites were Robin Wells’s Still the One and Jennifer Estep’s Venom. Two books for the month didn’t work too well for me—Carolyn Brown’s Hell, Yeah and Dakota Cassidy’s My Way to Hell. All in all, it was a good reading month. If I win, I’d like either the Kleypas or Gibson book. Thanks. (Email in profile.)

  3. I’m just starting to read JoAnn Ross book, but have long way to go. Trying to collect them as I can. So, I would love to win for a copy of The Homecoming by JoAnn Ross 🙂 Thanks! Good luck to everyone entering the give away!

  4. I’ve had a couple of very good months and this looks just about the same. Well, I should be reading more school books and not romance novels 😛

I’d like to win Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas.

  7. I read about 20 books in October and enjoyed most of them but I’d say my favorites were Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie and the Duke and I by Julia Quinn. Both authors are new to me, but now I understand why everyone raves about them.

I’d love to win Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson.

  8. I discovered two new to me (and relatively new) authors this month in Zoe Archer and Sarah MacLean. Yay for great writing! Not high in quantity, but definitely well-enjoyed. I’d love to win Lisa Kleypas’ Married by Morning.

My reading has slowed down a lot lately. Only 22 books! Though that doesn’t count the DNFs, which have been piling up. My favorite of the month was undoubtedly Cry No More by Linda Howard. What a powerhouse of a book! And so… morally satisfying, is the only phrase that comes to mind. I didn’t think it could possibly end well, but it was perfect.

Would love to read Lisa Kleypas, have read the other two. — willaful

  10. October was a pretty good reading month for me. Thanks to you ladies here at Book Binge I’ve been introduced to new-to-me author, Jill Shalvis. I loved The Heat is On! I just went and bought nearly every book of her backlist I could find!
I’d love to win The Homecoming!

  11. Some of my favorite reads for October were:
    American Assassin by Vince Flynn
    Virtually Hers by Gennita Low
Never Too Hot by Bella Andre
    Styx’s Storm by Lora Leigh
    Black Magic by Cherry Adair

As you can see I like suspense and romantic suspense but since I already read The Homecoming (twice)occasionally I like historical and so Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas would be great.
