Why Miami?

I want to say thanks to the ladies at The Book Binge for hosting me today! Power Unleashed, the third book in my Miami Scorcher series, just released from Ellora’s Cave. The lovely ladies here at TBB are allowing me to chat about the awesomeness of Miami, the city in which these stories take place and to give you a little insight into my new series.

Born and raised in the sunshine state, I’ve lived all over Florida. Orlando, Tampa, Islamorada, Marathon, and though I’ve never called Miami home, I love the city. Why you might ask? There are a lot of reasons but I’m going to try to narrow it down. First of all, I love the cultural diversity. My dad’s best friend came over from Cuba back in the 50s when his family had no place else to go and this awesome city welcomed him with open arms and allowed his family sanctuary and a place to flourish. For that reason alone, Miami will always hold a special place in my heart. But, there are many more reasons to love this place.

South Beach – Say these two words practically anywhere in the world and people KNOW you’re talking about Miami. This place is so diverse and rich in culture it practically oozes awesomeness! Chic boutiques, beautiful beaches, and very hot clubs. Not everyone is into clubs (I’m totally not) but I do love the beach and Miami has certainly got the white sandy goodness if you want to strut your stuff in a bathing suit.

Weather – I’ve lived in various places around the country (not just Florida) and let me tell you, it’s hot everywhere in the summer. That’s why I like Miami. Even though it’s hot you still get the cool breeze blowing up from the Atlantic. And the pseudo-winters of Florida are pretty great too. You don’t have to worry about oversized jackets or boots or any of that nonsense. I can’t tell you how many Christmas’s I spent out boating with my family instead of bundled up inside hiding from snow.

Food – You want Asian, Lebanese, Cuban, Greek, BBQ, seafood? You got it and more! Yes, you can get these foods practically anywhere but the thing I love about this city is that so many of the restaurants aren’t ‘corporate’. I hate chain restaurants so if you want family-owned, unique places to chow down, this is your city.

There are a lot of other reasons to love Miami: The people, Ocean Drive, the Art Deco District, deep sea fishing tours, Miami Seaquarium, kayaking in the Everglades, parasailing, readily available Cuban coffee, the Versace house, Miami Metrozoo, the vast amount of parks and museums, and hey, the fact that Burn Notice is filmed there (totally addicted to that show). If I chatted about each one of these I think this blog would get way too out of control so I’m going to stop right here.

When I started the first story in my Miami Scorcher series, it actually wasn’t a paranormal at all or even a planned series for that matter. It was a simple romantic suspense. One thing led to another and thanks to my demanding characters, Unleashed Temptation (the first story) turned into an erotic paranormal. I’d already started the story in Miami and I really didn’t want to change locations. Being shifters in a city where humans don’t know you exist is a heck of a lot harder than in the country so instead of changing everything, I used their location to my advantage and worked it into the conflict.

Have you ever been to Miami? Do you want to go? What’s your favorite place to vacation? Answer any one of these or just leave a comment and be entered to win a copy of Unleashed Temptation, the first book in the Miami Scorcher series! I’ll announce the winner Tuesday in the comments section so be sure to check back.

Thanks again to TBB ladies for having me!

Savannah Stuart has been reading romance for as long as she can remember, but she didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and working too many jobs she hated, she finally figured things out. When she discovered erotic romance, she knew she’d found her niche. Her stories have a touch of intrigue, suspense, or the paranormal, but the one thing she always includes is a happy ending. She lives in the South within walking distance of the beach with her very own real life hero, their dog, and a couple of turtles who have adopted them.

  1. Hi Savannah! I’m jealous of all that sunshine going on down there. I almost, almost went to college in Pensacola on a softball scholarship, but ultimately passed it up to stay here in Vancouver. In hindsight, I think the humidity woul’ve killed me 🙂 Plus I wouldn’t have gotten together with my hubby, so I dont’ regret not going.

Loved Power Unleashed! Can’t wait to read your next one.

I checked out the excerpt of this book and I’m interested….but will the book be available in print format? As for the e-format at EC, does it have DRM?

  3. Hi Tabitha 🙂 As far as print, I have no control over that. It’s possible they might put them all into print format one day but as of now, it’s only available in digital format. If you buy directly from EC I don’t think it has DRM but I’m not sure of the technical stuff.

Hey Savannah! I just wanted to say I’m so excited about the new release and I can’t wait to see what happens!

I stopped in Miami a few years ago (wow- more like 10) on my way to Key West. That was such an awesome vacation and I would love to go back and spend more time in both locales.

Thanks for the great post. Looking forward to reading about Paz and Adam in Power Unleashed!

  5. Hey Savannah! This Sherry has been to Miami- many times- even though I live on the opposite end of Fla in Pensacola. I love all of our great state- each area for a different reason!

  6. I’ve never been to Oregon, Estella but I have been to Washington. That part of the country is so beautiful. I understand why you’d want to vacation there 🙂

  7. Werewolves in Miami – I’m curious to see how you pull that one off. Since I lived in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Key West as a teenager and went to UF, I’m pretty familiar with all of Florida. Go Gators!

To this day, I will kill for good Cuban food. Whenever we fly through MIA on our way to the Caribbean, I run over to the Cuban restaurant in concourse F to pick up some roast pork and fried plantains. Yum!

  8. Jen, yay another Floridian! I’m third generation FL on one side and fourth on another and my entire fam pretty much lives in the sunshine state. And now my mouth is watering for some fried plantains, lol. 🙂

I’m moving to Miami for a job in two months and absolutely can’t wait. The three days I spent in town for the interview I had a different cuisine for every meal. It was amazing and the shopping in SoBe was fun. I almost think all the TV shows set in Miami make it worse: Burn Notice, Color Splash, CSI because it makes the interim seem longer.

I’ve never been and I love to vacation in Florida, which is where my grandmother lives! SO that’s always great fun 🙂
