Seducing the Highlander
Rowena’s review of Seducing the Highlander by Emma Wildes.

“Seducing Ian”
Abducted by notorious Highland lord Ian McCray and held as a prisoner for barter, Lady Leanna Arlington should be terrified-but her captor has helped her escape an unwanted marriage. Now, if only she can persuade the virile Scot to keep her…

“Seducing Robbie”
Julia Cameron is on the run and looking for a protector. Roguish Robbie McCray is desperate to replace his ships that were confiscated by the English. All they have to do is work out an agreement that is mutually satisfying-and sinfully wicked…

“Seducing Aidan” When he comes across a beautiful woman being attacked, Aidan Cameron charges headlong into the fray. The brigands he deals with by pistol and sword. But the lovely Lady Gillian Lorin may require a different set of weapons…

Seducing Ian– I started this story after coming off a YA binge so all of the sexing that was going on in this book gave me a total jolt out of Rated PG-13 books and tossed me right back into the world of adult stories again. It was great. Even though this story was fairly short, I still enjoyed it. Ian was a great hero, tall, strong and totally capable. He was that hero that you wanted to come and save you from the hell your life has been and he’s the hero that swept in and just handled things.

This book was one of those fast reads and I thought it was good. Ian was a lusty, strong ox of a hero that I adored and Leanna was a great heroine. This story kind of reminded me of a shorter Honor’s Splendor by Julie Garwood. I adored that book and I thought the storyline was well written in this short story. It was a treat to watch Ian and Leanna grow closer and even though Robbie tried to throw a wrench in their blossoming love, it was great how Ian and Leanna proved to be far stronger than that.

Grade: 3 out of 5

Seducing Robbie– Out of the three stories in this book, Robbie’s story was my favorite. Robbie is also my favorite hero in this book as well. Robbie was just more personable and it was such a treat to get to know him. I felt bad for him when Leanna didn’t return his feelings but I was glad that he didn’t let it turn him bitter.

The way that him and Julia came together made for great reading because she needs his protection and he really doesn’t have any reason for accepting her proposal outside of the fact that she’s made him mighty curious with her story and he liked the look of her. So their love story didn’t start out with roses and moonlight strolls but I loved watching these two get to know each other over the course of their story.

Robbie turns out to be a good judge of character and I was glad that he didn’t let Julia’s blind spots affect his opinion of Aidan. Even when we thought Aidan might have been a villain, I never did and was glad that Robbie saw that for himself as well. As much as I loved Robbie in this book, my heart went out to Aidan because he was truly in love with Julia and I wanted him to get his own happy ending and was glad to see that he would in the last story in this book.

This story was a great addition to the book as a whole and I enjoyed it a great deal.

Grade: 4 out of 5

Seducing Aidan– The last book was Aidan and Gillian’s story and I liked this entry as well.  This is my second favorite story in this book as I enjoyed the interactions between Aidan and Gillian.  You could tell that Aidan was still in love with Julia and I felt bad for him because he was so in love with her and she thought the worst possible thing about him.  She thought that he killed her father and her brother.  How can you bounce back from something like?  You can’t, especially when she disappears and then comes back married.

That makes things even worst but Aidan is a trooper and I knew that he’d get over it and when he charges to Gillian’s rescue, they get close and things begin to heat up between the two of them and Aidan finds out who Gillian’s fiance is and decides to keep her.  I was glad that Aidan got his happy ending.  I enjoyed getting to know the bits of him in Robbie and Julia’s story and then seeing him get his page time in his own story was just great.

Gilliam was a good match for Aidan and I was glad that she came into his life because Aidan was so deserving of a happy ending.

Grade: 3.5 out of 5

Overall, this book was good but it wasn’t as good as the other Emma Wildes book that I read.  My only gripe was that all of the heroines in this book was betrothed to someone else when the Highlanders came into their lives. They were pledged to someone else and in the first book, Iain kidnaps Leanne and in the second one, Julia dumps her fiance and rushes to Robbie and persuades him to marry her to save her from Aidan and then Gillian was engaged to a vile villain of a human and Aidan decides to keep her for himself.  It would have been nice if there was another storyline thrown in there because it felt repetitive.  Despite my issues with that, I enjoyed the book as a whole so I’d recommend this book to lovers of Highlanders.

Overall Grade: 3.5 out of 5
