Monthly Reads: April

Posted May 6, 2010 by Holly in Features | 34 Comments

April was a strange reading month for me. I got off to a kind of rough start, then really picked up during the middle of the month. But it really dropped off again during the last week of the month. I don’t know what that was about, but I didn’t like it.

I managed to read 15 books, which I think is pretty great considering they were all read during about a two week period.

The Irish Warrior by Kris Kennedy 4.5/5
Pride and Pregnancy by Karen Templeton 3.75/5
Instant Temptation by Jill Shalvis 4/5
Bared by Jill Shalvis 4/5
Her Best Friend by Sarah Mayberry
What the Librarian Did by Karina Bliss 4/5
All Over You by Sarah Mayberry 4.25/5
Montana Legacy by R.C. Ryan 3.5/5
Knight of Desire by Margaret Mallory 4.5/5
Wicked Little Game by Christine Wells 2.75/5
Like No Other Lover by Julie Anne Long 4.5/5
Tagging Her Lynx by Abby Wood 3.25/5
Proof by Seduction by Courtney Milan 4.25/5
The Care and Taming of a Rogue by Suzanne Enoch 4.25/5
Her Lone Cowboy by Donna Alward 3.75/5

I had some really great reads this month. My favorites were Knight of Desire by Margaret Mallory, Proof by Seduction by Courtney Milan and Like No Other Lover by Julie Ann Long. My least favorite was Wicked Little Game by Christine Wells. I just couldn’t connect with the characters.

Casee: I wouldn’t say that April was a good reading month for me, but it was the least pathetic of 2010. My total reads for April was 17 (that includes re-reads). It was my best reading month when it comes to quality. Though the number wasn’t very high, the books I did read were really good.

1. Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh (4.25/5)
2. The Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone (4/5)
3. On Shadow Beach by Barbara Freethy (3.75/5) – This one deserved a 4.
4. Out of Control of Control by Suzanne Brockmann (4.5/5)
5. Gone Too Far by Suzanne Brockmann (4/5)
6. Breaking Point by Suzanne Brockmann (4/5)
7. In Shelter Cove by Barbara Freethy (3.75/5)
8. Captured by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon (4/5)
9. Tease Me by Tracy Wolff (3.75/5)
10. Line of Fire by Jo Davis (4/5)
11. Risk No Secrets by Cindy Gerard (4.25/5)
12. White Heat by Brenda Novak (4.25/5)
13. Second Chance by Christy Reece (4.25/5)
14. Blown Away by Sharon Sala (3.75/5)
15. Last Chance by Christy Reece (4.25/5)
16. The Search by Nora Roberts (4.25/5)
17. Lover Mine by J.R. Ward (4/5)

Rowena: This month was a great reading month for me.  I was on a roll.  I read a lot of YA this month but I also read some quality romance as well.  I think my favorite reads of the month were Taken by Storm by Angela Morrison, Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen and Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols.  I enjoyed all of those books a great deal.  Here’s a list of the books that I read this month:

Taken by the Storm by Angela Morrison. (4.75 out of 5)

Rumor Has It by Jill Mansel. (3.75 out of 5)

Over the Edge by Suzanne Brockmann. (4.75 out of 5)

Out of Control by Suzanne Brockmann. (4.5 out of 5)

Seducing the Highlander by Emma Wildes.  (3.5 out of 5)

A Lady’s Guide to Improper Behavior by Suzanne Enoch. (4.5 out of 5)

North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley. (4 out of 5)

This month we’re giving away:

Knight of Desire by Margaret Mallory (because the third book, Knight of Passion, is coming out this month)
The Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone
Nothing But Trouble by Rachel Gibson

I am looking f/d to reading:
Deb Macomber’s Hannah’s list – have it from the library.

Am current reading More Than Words – Vol 6.

There was nothing I read that I did not care for = True Love Quilting Club was pretty good but got interruped reading because of vacation, so would have liked it more if I could have devoted proper time.

I’d like to put in for ‘Nothing But Trouble’ by Rachael Gibson. I just finished ‘Not Another Bad Date’ and loved it.

I’m reading The Poisonwood Bible (for book club), but have just finished Jill Shalvis’ Instant Trilogy (Stone is my favorite) and have “Slow Heat” on my shelf for next.
