With only one week before the new release from Julie James, Something About You, we thought it would be a great to bring to your attention the awesomeness that is Something About You and Julie James was nice enough to give us some exclusive excerpts to share with you guys. How awesome is she?

Check it out:

Jack Pallas made quite an impression on her the first time he and his partner walked into her office. Cameron suspected nearly everyone who met him had the same reaction: with predatory brown eyes, nearly black hair, and dark facial scruff, he looked like the kind of guy that women—and men—should avoid in dark alleys. He had a cast on his right forearm, presumably an injury inflicted by Martino’s men, and he wore a navy T-shirt and jeans instead of the standard-issue suit and tie most agents were expected to wear. From the look of him, she was not at all surprised the FBI had chosen him for undercover work.

And three years later—as he stood across from her in that hotel room that suddenly seemed far too small, with his eyes glittering with a low-simmering anger, and, yes, even despite the standard-issue suit and tie he wore this time—he looked not one bit less dangerous.

“I want to talk to a lawyer,” Cameron said.

“You are a lawyer,” he said. “And you’re not considered a suspect, so you’re not entitled to one, anyway.”

“What am I considered, then?”

“A person of interest.”

This was bullshit. “Here’s the deal: I’m tired and not in the mood to play games. So if you don’t start telling me what’s going on, I’m walking,” Cameron said.

Jack eyed her yoga sweats and Michigan T-shirt, looking unconcerned with her threats. Thank God she wasn’t still hanging out in her underpants.

“You’re not going anywhere.” He pulled the chair out and gestured. “Take a seat.”

“Thanks, but no. I think I’ll just stick with the plan where I walk out.” Before he could call her bluff, Cameron grabbed her purse and headed for the door. The hell with her stuff, she’d get it later. “It was nice catching up with you, Agent Pallas. I’m glad to see those three years in Nebraska didn’t make you any less of an asshole.”

She threw open the door and nearly ran into a man standing in the doorway. He wore a well-cut gray suit and tie, appeared younger than Jack, and was African American.

He flashed Cameron a knock-out smile while precariously balancing three Starbucks cups in his hands. “Thanks for getting the door. What’d I miss?”

“I’m storming out. And I just called Agent Pallas an asshole.”

“Sounds like good times. Coffee?” He held the Starbucks out to her. “I’m Agent Wilkins.”

Cameron threw a knowing glance over her shoulder. “Good cop, bad cop? Is that the best you’re capable of, Jack?”

He stalked across the room and stopped in the doorway, towering over her. “You have no idea what I’m capable of,” he said darkly.

As he reached over and took one of the coffee cups from Wilkins, Cameron made a mental note to be careful when taunting a man who carried a gun, blamed her for nearly wrecking his career, and who was over a head taller than she was. She internally said a few profanities for her earlier decision to put on gym shoes; she needed at least three-inch heels to face off against Jack Pallas. Although that still would have only put her at his chin level. Not to mention that she would’ve looked like a major jackass wearing Manolos and yoga pants.

I can personally vouch for how awesome this book is. To go along with getting the word out on this fantastic book, we’re going to give away a signed copy of SOMETHING ABOUT YOU by Julie James!

  1. I love all that is contemporary and I have Julie’s book on the TBR for a while now, ever since I picked up PMP. unfortunately my reading obligations and offline non-reading life haven’t let me start them yet but SAY is definitely on my next book-order list!

  2. I too love contemps and that is for the most part what I read. Julie’s books are so entertaining and funny.

Would be thrilled to win her latest.

  3. I’d love to win Julie James’ latest because I’m always looking for sizzling new contemporaries (I’m addicted to Erin McCarthy’s at the moment), and dangerous heroes just crank my tractor. 🙂

  4. I absolutely love the characters in Julie James’ books. They make me laugh out loud with their reactions to each other and she tops it all off with a good happy ending 😀

  5. Her books are funny and clever and none of the characters suffer from TSTL (too stupid too live). And I always make sure to put her books on the “Readers’ Finds” shelf when I’m at my local library. 🙂

  11. Strong, intelligent females –Julie’s books are the best!!

Of course, I love J.D. from Practice Makes Perfect. The courtroom scene with Payton and what happens when her high heel finally breaks off is hilarious! Makes me laugh every time I read it.

  12. Kim

Julie carefully balances the humor and romance in her contemporaries, so you get the best of both. Also she has intelligent heroines that can go toe to toe with the hero.

  13. I love Julie James books because I aspired to be a lawyer and this is as close as I can get by living vicariously through her books. haha. Kidding! I love the humor, the chemistry, and her kick-ass heroines. So far, I’ve loved both heroines in the two books that I’ve read. I can’t wait to read this!

  14. I’ve never read any of Julie James’s books, but have heard a lot of good things about them. This would be a great way for me to read her book and maybe get hooked onto a whole new author.

  15. I love Julie’s books because they are true contemporaries with good tight writing, no draggy parts. I love the dialogue and wish I knew people who spoke like this … so fast and funny.

  16. I’m so glad to hear you loved this one! I can’t wait to read it. I’m a recent James convert and I love how she can make me genuinely come to love a guy who I pretty much despised in the beginning. That’s talent. 😉

  17. I love the balance of humors and romance in Julie Jame’s books. I also love how she made me fall for each characters, and the dialgoues between not just the main characters but with their friends are heartfelt – from both books. I love that the heroine are smart and doesn’t let heroes get away with things. Looking forward to read SOMETHING ABOUT YOU!

  18. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT was a delight to read. I loved the chemistry of the characters. The story was so fun to read that I find myself going back and rereading favorite passages. I can’t wait for this next book because it sounds like another winner!

  22. Maureen L

I enjoyed reading her stories; they’re original, clever, funny, and down to earth. I’m looking forward to her latest book.

  23. My favorite thing about Julie James’ books is the witty dialogue between her characters. Her books have a great sense of humor to them. I especially enjoyed the ‘battle of the sexes’ backdrop in Practice Makes Perfect. In the beginning when Payton and JD are adversaries, it was fun to read how they tried to one up each other. Great read. I’m looking forward to the new book in March.

  24. Chelsea B.

I’ve not read a Julie James book. But with all the awesome things said about her, how can I NOT want to 🙂

  25. What I love about Julie’s books:

So smary & funny – She’s the first author I emailed before I even finshed the book to tell her that I loved it but I couldn’t read her book in public anymore because it LOL funny.

    Best scene ever: from JTSMA
The courtroom scene in Chapter 4 when Taylor puts Jason on trial for being late is one of the best moments in any book ever.

She writes HOT books even though there is not tons of sex, she creates amazing sexual tension.

  26. I haven’t read a Julie James book before. But I would like to win it because it sounds so good, and I just love the cover of the book. Please enter me. Thanks!

  27. Amy Kathryn

I love the witty dialogue. It reminds me of the old 40s movies. I can just picture Cary Grant and Ms. Hepburn enacting some of scenes from Ms. James’ books.

  28. What I love most about Julie’s books is her snappy, sharp, witty & poignant writing. Her characters have LIFE and say & do unexpectedly lovable things.

Just the Sexiest & PMP are on my keeper shelf.

    Natalie’s Mama

  30. I love me a good contemporary and I enjoy Ms. James’ humour. Practice Makes Perfect was a good read and I’m looking forward to Something about You. Please count me in!

  31. Lori

    Oooh, love the excerpt!!

What I like most about Julie’s books is that they are smart in addition to being funny. The characters are self-sufficient, intelligent people (a too rare occurrence these days). And she assumes her readers are smart enough to get it. No talking dumb.

And I lurves me some banter 🙂

Cannot wait to read this one!

  32. Natasha

ooh I would so love to win this! 🙂

Why do I love her books? I don’t like contemporaries in general. I prefer paranormal or regency. I read Sexiest Man Alive just because it was getting so many rave reviews. When I read it I knew why! I did not want the book to end! The characters were so much fun! I loved the interactions between them!

Then I picked up Practice Makes Perfect because I wanted my JJ fix! Loved that too!

Can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

I’m a big fan of contemporaries (really the only genre in romance that I read regularly), and while I haven’t read anything by Julie James before, I’ve heard good things about her books. Love the cover!

  35. What I love most is the dialogue between her heroes and heroines. James writes smart and funny dialogue that brings out all kinds of emotions.

  36. Jane

I love the humor the most in Julie’s books, plus you can feel the chemistry between the hero and the heroine.

  37. j.man

I like the banter back & forth between the H/H the most. I get chuckles every time.

  38. Julie James is a new-to-me author and with all the buzz on reader blogs about her new book, I’m convinced I should give her a try. I love funny. One of my favorite authors is Susan Elizabeth Phillips and just devour her books because she has such a style and voice. I would love to read Julie Jame’s new release with so many praises for her work.

Have not had the pleasure of reading any of Julie James books yet. I’ve heard great things about them. Would love the chance to get hooked. Winning would give me the opportunity.

    Lynn R.

  40. I loved Practice Makes Perfect!! Most of the books I had been reding before that all seemed to be set in NYC or London so it was fun to read a Chicago based story. I was sitting on the edge of the couch at the end almost as if I was cheering for my team to win!!

  41. I like her characters and the way the story flows. I’m entertained and feel like I’m watching the story unfold. Her books are very enjoyable!

  42. I have not read one book from Julie James, yet. When this new release came out on the promotions it piqued my interest though immediately and so want to read the book because it has such strong characterization and sounds absolutely fun to sit down and enjoy!

  43. I’ve never read a Julie James book, but when I read the excerpt, I felt like I was right in the scene. It was vivid and I really want to know what happens next! And of course it has a hot cover. Thanks for the opportunity.

I would love to win one of Julie’s books; I have not read any and this would be a great opportunity to try one.

    Joanne V.

  45. I’ve never erad any book by her, but I would love to win this one because it looks really interesting and I love a little bit of suspense in a book.

  46. So far I’ve read all of James’ books. I love the way she writes and how she’s able to create a wonderful and exciting story, for me personally incomparable to other general contemporary romance books.

Her stories are written like movies and she’s able to give their characters the perfect amount of sarcasm and therefore creating absolutely funny moments. I laughed out loud more than once! In addition to that, James combined her former profession as a lawyer with her writing talent, making her characters genuine and believable. For me this is very important in a book and I’m absolutely no fan of typical shallow romance novels.

I’m absolutely looking forward to this book and happy to hear that she is already writing her fourth!

I am a historical freak…I love all historical romance. That being said, I am trying to get back into contmeporary and this sounds like something I really will like. Can’t wait to read it! 🙂

  50. Julie James writes excellent contemporary romance. I always end up laughing when i pick up one of her books. Great dialogue as well.

  51. I haven’t read any of Julie James’ books before, but I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Something About You. With big blogs like Dear Author and Smart Bitches throwing their combined support behind it with their Save the Contemporary campaign, Something About you just has to be good. I’d love to win a copy.
