Rowena’s review of Untamed by P.C. and Kristin Cast.
Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you.
Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an undisputed expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a tight-knit group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. And the worst part is, she knows it’s her own fault. Speaking of friends, the only two Zoey has left are undead, unMarked, and unable to stop bickering with each other. So who can blame her for befriending the House of Night’s newest transfer student, the majorly hot Olympic archer, James Stark?
Meanwhile, Neferet has declared a war on humans after it appears that the People of the Faith have murdered two vampyres. But Aphrodite’s latest visions show a world completely different from the High Priestess’s promises, a world full of violence, hatred, and darkness, all because of Zoey’s death—and the only way it seems she can prevent it from happening is to make things right with her friends. Zoey knows in her heart that fighting with humans is wrong. But will anyone listen to her? Zoey’s adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wild and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened in PC and Kristin Cast’s spellbinding fourth House of Night novel.
This book starts right where the third book, Chosen ends….with everyone and their Mom pissed off at Zoey because Zoey was being a bonehead. I can understand why Zoey felt she needed to keep her little secrets (well most of them anyway) but it still got on my nerves from time to time.
In this book Neferet has declared war on humans and she continues to be a thorn in Zoey’s side because Zoey knows that war with the humans is wrong. While Zoey tries to find a way to make everything right, she also has to deal with her friends being pissed off at her and not trusting her. She finds an unlikely ally in Aphrodite and man am I glad that Aphrodite is still around. She’s proven to be the best friend that Zoey has and even though she is one of the bitchier characters, she’s my absolute favorite in this series.
In this book we also meet a new transfer student from the Chicago House of Night, James Stark. He’s got some very nifty powers that Neferet wants on her side so he comes forth and once again, Zoey is torn between boyfriends. Gah. Erik is being a dick because his heart is broken because Zoey broke it and I can’t even blame him for being a dick because Zoey just keeps right on doing him dirty. Oh yeah and we’ve also got what Stevie Rae turns into to deal with in this story so when all is said and done, Zoey is one busy chick.
This book kept the party going and while I enjoyed it, I think Chosen is still my favorite book in the series so far and Stark is a very intriguing character. I want more Stark and I think that fans of this series will enjoy this book as much as the others and I need to hurry up and get to finishing out this series. These books are really fast reads. They’re entertaining and very addicting.
