It’s that time again. A new month, a new author spotlight and some more discussion posts for all you. Today, we’ll be discussing our first Lisa Kleypas reads.
Rowena:
I think my old age is starting to get to me because I kept second guessing which book was my first LK and though now I remember, it took me a while.
A few years ago, Kristie J had a Derek Craven love fest all over blog land and it piqued my curiosity because I had never read an LK before. I remember having a conversation with it about Holly and getting reamed because she had been trying to get me to read LK for a long time but finally started getting interested in reading her when Kristie J started talking about her. I also remember Holly telling me that I could read that book but I better fall in love with Derek Craven like everyone else. So I picked up Dreaming of You and I failed in “don’t fall in love with Derek Craven” regard because I fell hard for Derek and ended up loving him more than Sebastian St. Vincent, who is another fan favorite.
I remember reviewing Dreaming of You over at our old book blog, Sanctuary’s Finest and starting my review with an apology to Holly, haha. So there it goes, my very first LK read was Dreaming of You and I read it because of Kristie J who is one of my favoritest book pushers. =)
Casee:
My first Lisa Kleypas was Stranger in My Arms. I just had to go look up the title, so it obviously wasn’t memorable. Still, it was good enough that I continued to read her. I read Midnight Angel followed by Prince of Dreams and was hooked. After Dreaming of You, I was a goner.
This month, I’ve been re-reading. Some of the books I love just as much as I did the first time around. Some are even better. Some are worse. I haven’t re-read Stranger in My Arms yet. I might like it better the second time around.
What about you…what was your very first Lisa Kleypas read? Tell us about it.
I think my first LK book was Lady Sophia’s lover and for some reasons which I don’t even remember the story didn’t work for me. I loved her voice though and was curious to read more from her. After that I read all her books and loved them all. My favorite : Again the Magic.
I have to admit I’ve never read any of her books. I’ve heard great things about her though.
My first LK book was Mine Till Midnight, which I loved. Then I was sent the first Wallflowers book- Secrets of a Summer Night and I was hooked. 🙂
My first LK book is out of print and isn’t even listed on her web-site as one of the books that she’s written, which is a shame because I loved it. I don’t have a copy of it anymore and it’s killing me.
Can’t remember the title at the moment, but the heroine lives in the early 20th cen. with her aunt. After her Aunt dies she travels back in time to her when her Aunt was a kid in the body of her aunt’s aunt who she resembles (Confusing yet, the book makes more sense). The person’s whose body she’s in is a spoiled jerk and she has to try to figure out how her ancestor disappered because her disappearence destroyed the family dynmanic and along the way she builds a relationship with the man most people thought had somthing to do with her ancestor’s disappearance.
Loved that book.
My first was not too long ago and yet it still took me an hour to remember it. It was Blue Eye Devil. I remember liking it but having a little problem with reading story written in the 1st person. This lead to Seduce me at Sunrise. I’m over the 1st person issue.
I’m loving the fact that I found an old treasure from which i can slowly enjoy.
Thanks, gals, for introducing LP to me.
p.s. ironically, I fell harder for Hardy (hehe) in SD than in B-ED.
If no one knows the title of the story in Lynette’s post, I’m going to tweet LP. It sounds really interesting…
I think I first tried Devil in Winter and was shocked and put off by it (being very new to romance and much more naive and intolerant than I am now.) I had this idea that I wouldn’t like Kleypas. Then I read a bibliography on Amazon and she was listed amongst all these authors I really liked, so I decided to give her another go. I can’t remember which book I then tried but I was won over. — willaful
“ironically, I fell harder for Hardy (hehe) in SD than in B-ED.”
mph – makes perfect sense to me! (Though I loved B-ED.) I feel exactly the same about St. Vincent. — willaful
Found it. See this is what you get when you’ve been reading romance since you were 11 years old.
The title to the book I was talking about is Give Me Tonight. I lost my copy eons ago.

My first was Sugar Daddy. I loved it and moved on to Blue-Eyed Devil. I made the move over to her historicals with Someone to Watch Over Me. Though I was overwhelmed with love with that one I did continue on and loved the Wallflower series. I just started the Hathaway series.
My first LK was Stranger in My Arms. I thought that was the most original, out of the box story I had ever read and I couldn’t wait to read more of her books, now all on my keeper shelves.
Emmanuelle, I’m re-reading Lady Sophia’s Lover right now. It’s not working for me either. It’s the whole “revenge” aspect that I don’t like. Too sneaky and conniving.
My first LK book was Devil in Winter then I went back and read every book I could find by her. I still a few of her really old stuff to read.
The scary thing for me is that I do NOT know which one of LK’s books was my first! How is that possible? But I can say this…I know Derek Craven came later. :)I’ll have to go search titles and come back. But I adore her. Enough so, that I actually wrote a heroine who ALSO said she was a favorite (Hope Harper in PARALLEL SEDUCTION). I had Hope reading sonnets, but saying she was more of a Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas fan. 🙂
Great blog!! Hugs, Deidre
My first LK was SUDDENLY YOU but even with its innovative use of berries (lol) and racy love scenes, it just didn’t do it for me.
I proceeded to ignore all LK books until one day I came across a romance forum that kept raving about DREAMING OF YOU…I decided to give LK another shot and SO VERY happy I did or I would never have experienced the greatness of Derek Craven! Derek, a hero for the ages.
Ultimate Favorite: Dreaming of You
Other LK Keepers: Secrets of A Summer Night, Lady Sophia’s Lover, Mine Til Midnight & It Happened One Autumn.
Mine was Again the Magic, followed shortly thereafter (I think the next day?) by Worth Any Price.
(and now I’m going back to my boycott)
I honestly can’t remember the first Lisa Kleypas book I read. I think it might have been the original version of When Strangers Marry. Or it could have been Then Came Your or Dreaming of You. I do know that I’ve been reading her since at least 1994 and Dreaming of You has always been the most memorable.
What I DO know – is whichever one was the first one, I loved it so much I scooped as many as I could find. I still have some of her Very Old ones like Where Passion Leads, Because You’re Mine and Give Me Tonight – Lynette – I could have found that one if you hadn’t already *g*
umm I haven’t read a LK book yet *hides*
In my defense, I’m fairly new to the genre. A few years. So I have quite a lot of catching up to do.
The good news is that the author spotlight got me interested in her books. Now I have the wallflower series on my TBR pile. I’m hoping to finish reading at least that series by the end of the month 🙂
My first book was “Someone to Watch Over Me.” That book introduced me to the Bow Street Runners.
My first was Where Dreams Begin, and I’ve been reading all her books ever since, except those few, early HTF ones.
My first was Sugar Daddy, which until almost the end was one of the best books I had ever read. The end felt like a cop-out, but I like her writing style and so I kept on. I have only read the three contemporaries and a couple of older historicals (thanks, library book sale!); I will be catching up on her backlist.
my first was dreaming of you. i remember not particularly liking it but this was when I first started reading romance and before my first kleypas book i was reading catherine coulter and johanna lindsey, so i was used to reading about lords and ladies. kleypas was different in with her characters especially with derek craven… hmmm, maybe a reread is in order 😉
My first Lisa Kleypases were the Wallflower series and they were sent to me by a Seppie from the SEP Bulletin Board. I was hooked.
Like Rowena my first LK book was Dreaming of You, and it was all Kristie J’s fault!
I then proceeded to glom nearly everything she has written, although now I will be on a mission to try and find that book that was mentioned earlier. It is one of the few I haven’t read it.
My very first Lisa Kleypas book was Then Came You and then after that, I started devouring her backlist. She’s one of my favorite romance authors (both her historicals and her contemporaries).
Ladies, my first romance book is Midnight Angel. Lisa Kleypas the one got me hook on romance and the rest is history …
(I think I have all of her book except the one they didn’t print out anymore). I can’t wait for Leo’s story.
