For those of you who aren’t aware, the Book Depository is an amazing online bookstore in Europe and other parts of the world that offers free shipping on every item in stock, with no minimum purchase. That’s free shipping on any item no matter where you ship it. Overseas or across the street. Pretty awesome, right?
Well, they’ve finally brought Book Depository to the US. I couldn’t be happier. It will certainly make it easier (and more affordable) to ship contest prizes!
We have been working hard on our new American site BookDepository.com, we’re excited to be able to let you know this has now launched. With an extended range of titles for the US, our ongoing free shipping on everything with no minimum spend and now up to 50% off the top 50,000 titles.
With over 2 million books available for dispatch within 48 hours there is a fantastic choice of titles for everyone.
Some other things to keep an eye out for:
- Watch people shopping on our live global book sales map
- We’ve improved our search engine even more with added filtering options and the ability to sort by price, format and publication date.
- Pre-ordering the best new titles so you’re one of the first to get your hands on the book.

I used the Book Depository for last month’s Birthday Bash. It was so nice to be able to say “this contest is open to everyone, not just those in the US and Canada” and I swear it brought more commenters in that way.
Book Depository also came through when I had a winner from Croatia – who they didn’t ship to for free. They read a tweet I posted, visited my blog when I blogged about them, and changed their policy. Talk about listening to their customers! I definitely recommend them.
I loved the Book Depository when everything went well – when it goes wrong they have truly abysmal customer service, am talking about the U.K. website here.
Messed up an order – got the runaround, was lied to in successive emails regarding the reasoning BUT eventually managed to get my money back (they take it when you place the order) after about 8 weeks. This happened to me twice – the first time I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they had been good previously. The second time a couple of months later, I vowed never again.
I would rather pay a few extra pounds and get the book/s than be subjected to the appalling treatment I received again.
I’ve used Book Depository UK for months now and been very pleased with their prices and fast shipping (I live in Finland).
I love that site.
I live in Malta and have used the Book Depository for years. I love it and the fact that there’s no shipping on the books is super. You also find many more American authors on this site than on the other free shipping site Play.com.
As to customer service from the UK site I have always received the best service. If books do not arrive they send me a replacement and when they processed an order twice for me – it was a mistake on their part – they refunded me for the books they had charged me double for and for the shipping too which was areound Eur14.
Dude, I’m so going to be using this from now on. Thanks for the heads up!
I purchased an e-book from them. I talked later with the author and publishing company and discovered that “The Book Depository” sold me an illegal, pirated copy of the authors work. I filed a dispute with Paypal, but they only seem interested in getting their cut of the money. I offered to send proof, but neither company was interested. Find a legal and legit company to give your money too!
Matthew,
I’m curious about what kind of proof you have. What book/publisher was it? I can’t help but be skeptical over your claim. I would think they’d have been shut down if they were selling pirated ebooks.
