I know I’ve mentioned this before, but for some strange reason I have a love for all characters named Nick. If there’s a hero named Nick, it’s almost a given that I’m going to love him. A secondary character? He’s my favorite. It’s just a quirk, I guess.
I don’t really have a favorite female name, though I do think anything based in Italian is pretty – Isabella, etc.
What about you? Do you have a favorite character name?
I don’t have any favorite names. I enjoy reading about all of them.
I’m a sucker for heroines named Caroline.
And I almost universally love a hero named Royce. Weird. I’d never thought of that, before.
Estella, I don’t think I have a least favorite name, but Nick just seems to do it for me every time. Perhaps it’s a coincidence?
Kati,
Funny, isn’t it? I’m trying to think what books I’ve read with the name Royce before – A Kingdom of Dreams by McNaught, of course and..The Prize by Garwood? Was that the one?
Otherwise I can’t think of another off the top of my head.
My current favorite hero names are Adam, Barrons, and John Matthew 😉
I think Kate makes a good heroine name.
My favorite is any variation on names Jack, Jake, Jacob, Jackson…My list of favorite heroes has quite a few of them *lol*
Hugs,
Pearl
Another vote for Jack! Jake is good too 🙂
This is a really great question that I never really considered.
Oddly enough, I tend to like names that start with J for male characters, like some of the other commenters. I wonder why that is?
As far as female names go, I don’t think I have favorites as far as heroines go.
I’m a sucker for Nick, David and Jake.
I don’t really have favorite heroine names, but I really dislike Olivia and Chloe, so it takes a good author for me to overlook those names.
I love the name Alexander ever since I read The Bronze Horseman. Also love the name Jack and for some reason Royce.
I have a few of them…
Joe Morelli
Jagger
Jack Terry
There are heroins????
Okay – enough joking around – I tend to like boy names that start with the letter “J” and I prefer girl names that are real names – I can’t stand it when I can’t relate to the names.
Except Jaggar – but that was a character on General Hospital so he gets a pass….
I really like many of the names mentioned! Seems like we prefer the one syllable male names a lot! My least favorites names are heroine names. In historicals, the name Caro is waaay over used. In contemporaries (especially suspense!) the name Kat is waaay over used. I’m just tired of them.
I like several of the mens names mentioned – Nick, Alex, Sebastian. I also like Damian, Luc (Lucas, Lucien), Rafe (Rafael)
For women I prefer names like Isabella, Angel (Angelica), Jacqueline.
For men I love Nick and Jack.
For women I admit I’m fond of southern names : Emma-Jean, Jamie-Lee…
I love Julian, Adam and Luke! For some reason those three names just do it for me in a book. Jack is not bad either… 🙂
I don’t have favorite heroine names — I mean, look at Honoria from Devil’s Bride. Now THERE’s a name for you, and I thought she was great *g*
I go with Nick and Jack too.
For girls, Natalie, Annie, Katie, Bailey, Molly and Daisy (from SEP’s Kiss An Angel – always stuck with me).
Pat L.
When it comes to Female names I’ve always found women with the name Anne or Annie to be very strong.
For men I like odd name like McKenna for example, although there’s nothing wrong with the Nicks or Jacks in the world either!
My favorite hero name of all time is C.K. Dexter Haven, Cary Grant’s character in “The Philadelphia Story.” I don’t know why, I just think that name sounds cool and suave and so Cary Grant-ish.
My favorite herione name is Grace…I have always loved this name. Although, none of my children have this name…my husband thinks that this is too old fashioned.
I really love the name Rafe, too. I do not really know why.
Ultimate favorite hero name is Julian (Especially Julian Darcangelo from Pamela Clare’s Hard Evidence).
Other favorites are Bevier, Macedeon, Cadeon, Ranulf. All medival-sounding types 🙂
No favorite heroine names though.
And I don’t like names that I have no idea how to pronounce, and that’s alot when it comes to reading those Italian/French/Whatever Billionaires.
My kids’ names (which I don’t tend to publish on the web) are right up there. Not really popular, maybe a tad on the geeky side, but, well, if they weren’t among my favorite names, I wouldn’t have wanted to name my kids that, would I?
DH’s name hasn’t appeared (or maybe I haven’t read a book with it), but I like Alex, which is a variant of it.
And Nick, too. That’s a good one.
I do remember Royce in “The Prize.” The last book in Stephanie Laurens’ Bastion Club features a hero named Royce. I like the names Sebastian and Tristan.
I like Derek, Dain, Damien…
I have never had a favourite hero/heroine name. Guess I like them all 😀
Like you, Holly…I’m partial to the name Nick. I love that name and if I see a book with a hero named Nick, odds are, I’ll pick it up and want to read it. There’s so many good Nick’s out there.
Julie James,
I think you have a thing for heroes with names that start with J, I mean there’s Jason, J.D. and Jack in your new novel…=P
Really, any name goes for me! Just don’t like to read when they have names so close together in one book, like a few with J’s and makes it confusing! I remember I ended up having to write down the names to get through the book that was good too! Once I read a book with the hero’s name Adam. Then picking up my next book, the hero’s name was Adam too! I kept trying to read it and going back to thinking about the book before! LOL. So I had to find another book to read cuz they were too close together with the same names!
Hmm… you might be onto something there, Rowena… 😉
I’m partial to Cole, Nick, Luke/Lucas and Alex for my heroes and I like Francesca, Sarah and Isabella for the girls.
