Since we’ve already brought you the Best of 2008: The Books, it’s only fair that we bring you the worst. These could be books that were so awful that they were DNF or books that were a disappointment to us.
Casee’s List:
My biggest disappointment was Promises Revealed. I’ve loved this series from the beginning and waited for the Rev’s book forever. It just didn’t do it for me.
- Under Mr. Nolan’s Bed by Selena Kitt
- Shadow Music by Julie Garwood
- Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward
- The Midnight Man by Charlotte Mede
- Promises Revealed by Sarah McCarty
Holly’s List:
- Pleasure U by Carole Hart
- Reckless by Saskia Walker
- Let the Night Begin by Kathryn Smith
- Shadow Music by Julie Garwood
- Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer
I think of all of them I listed Breaking Dawn is my biggest disappointment. Not because it was an awful book – it really wasn’t. But because it was an awful end to what potentially could have been an amazing series.
Wena’s List:
I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to find five books that I would label worst of 2008 but let’s see what I find, shall we?
- Border Lass by Amanda Scott.
- A Stranger’s Touch by Cait London.
- Dangerous Hearts by Tracy Bateman.
- The Flirt by Kathleen Tesaro.
- The Mystic Rider by Patricia Rice.
Hmmm, that’s all that I’ve got. Alright, alright (Sybil! haha), I added the books that I was looking forward to and was disappointed in, I had such high hopes for these books and they fell flat for me. Oh well, it is what it is…happy now, KB and Sybil?
Now…show us yours! =P
Hmmm, lucky me, I’ve read none of the books listed up there 😀 and none of them are auto-buy authors 😀
Breaking Dawn and At Graves End were my two biggest disappointments.
Casee: Was the reason LE sucked for you because of Phury and Cormy’s lame romance? Just give me some barby Rehv and I am all set.
Holly: I still have Reckless to read must ponder this…
Ween: You are too kind. 😛
I haven’t heard of these, except for Breaking Dawn. Thanks for the warning!!
wena go to your room until you come back with three more and cas you can’t put one up without a review.
so really you need to tell us about that one
heeeeeeeee
Sybs,
So I was a good girl then? 😛
KB,
The thing about Reckless is that I went into it expecting one thing and got something else entirely. Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad if I hadn’t thought it was something else?
Marie,
Did you read BD?
Nath,
Are you going to do a Worst of list?
You know, Casee I was a little disappointed with Lover Enshrined as well. Even though I was totally wanting more with John, Blay, and Qhuinn and even Rhev I didn’t feel that Phury and Cormia really gave the story that punch that we usually see with the brothers. Then again Phury was a little preoccupied with his addiction. I’m still looking forward to her next one though.
omg holly WAS the good one… who knew?
lol
woot wena rocks
now all we need is casee to review that one 😉
I don’t think I can do a worst of list right now cuz I can’t remember crap… I go look for someone else to do one LOL
Sybs,
I bet Shannon and Gwen would do it. *snicker*
I’m almost at the end of Lover Enshrined right now and I completely agree! TOTALLY not as immersive as her previous books – just really didn’t do as good a job with Phury as with the others. And the romance with Cormia is TOTALLY lame. Hmph.
Thank you Casee, Holly & Wena (it took me ages to work that out BTW…I kept thinking ‘but where’s Rowena 😉 No, I didn’t get much sleep last night!
I (luckily) have read very few on the list. I did read Lover Enshrined and while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t my favourite of the series. I’m still a bit confused about why the Brothers didn’t stage an intervention? And yes, the interaction between Cormia and JM was lovely. I’m surprised Phury suggested JM show Cormia around…I would have thought the bonding instinct wouldn’t have let him…
Just give me some barby Rehv and I am all set.
I’ve with you there Katie!
Alright, alright…I found some more books that disappointed me throughout the year, books I forgot about.
I have read very few of these as well. The disappointment that sticks out in my head is At The Edge by Cait London.
Of the three lists I have only read the J. R Ward book (yep, It sucked)
I do have the McCarthy book in my TBR, but I’m afraid to read it because I loved her EC released for that series, but her print books have not been that good, IMO. I’m afraid that reading the newest Promises book will just but a bad taste in my mouth about a series that I like.
