How ‘Bout Them Cowboys?

Posted October 28, 2008 by Holly in Discussions | 16 Comments

To continue with Jodi Thomas Week, today we’re going to talk about Cowboys. I’m a huge fan of cowboys. There’s something super sexy about a man in tight jeans who wears a stetson and ropes and rides. But it’s more than that. It’s the unwritten cowboy code. The chivalry, the ingrained need to protect and pamper. Yum.

I especially love Texas cowboys. There’s just something about the slow way they move and talk, the quiet way they brood, their moral code. They say everything is bigger in Texas and I guess my cowboy crush proves that, huh?

What about you? Do you love cowboys? Feel differently about the ones that are from Texas? Do you prefer modern day cowboys or the ones from the Wild West days? I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Leave a comment here telling me 3 of your favorite things about Cowboys and you’ll be entered to win a Jodi Thomas “going green” tote bag and a copy of Twisted Creek!!

  1. Tight jeans! Their manners (such gentlemen)! AND the calluses on their hands from working with them.
    mmmm…..
I used to live in Calgary, Alta Canada..home of the cowboys in Canada. Oh yeah!
    Natasha A.

  2. Oh I have to say that I’m an equal opportunity cowboy lover. I don’t care if they’re from the old west or the modern version – bring em on!!

Ok – 3 things. Muscles made by working the “range” instead of being made in a gym. Much more natural.
The smell of leather and horses – love that!
Chaps – need I say more?

  3. I love cowboys, too, because they have that drawl, and are dirty and sweaty and smell like the outdoors and have calloused hands and um…where are all the shirts on your cowboy pictures?

  4. I can’t believe I forgot to mention the calluses. Bad Holly.

    Tracy,
    Chaps? Good call.

    CJ,
They aren’t wearing shirts? How strange…I didn’t even notice. *g*

  5. I love my cowboy because he’s the best man I’ve ever met — that’s from a middle-aged woman that’s met my fair share of dog-men! And I’m saying this after being married to him for eight years, so I’m well past the infatuation phase.

He’s polite; even-tempered — most of the time, he can get pretty testy about the “revenuers” though; knows how to fix just about anything — except in the kitchen, oh well; and finally, he puts my pleasure first (sighs!)

  6. I love cowboy stories, both contemporary and historical. There is just something so sexy about their strength and ability to protect. I love when they are tough and rugged on the outside, but sweet and tender on the inside. They are willing to work hard to get what they want, whether it be their ranch or their women!

  7. The first thing is that they have to be self-reliant to a great degree. Then, they have to be attuned to nature, at least a little.

And horses. Let’s not forget the horses.

  8. The three things I like are:

1)They’re very respectful, esp to women.
    2)Their accent
3)Their work ethic, they’ll get up at 3 AM to do their work.

  9. Karen W.

    1)They’re hardworking
    2)The cowboy code of ethics
3)The jeans & chaps 😉 (Can I count that as one?!?)

  10. I loooove cowboys, but only the real ones…not those pretty boys that dress up in starched shirts and shiny boots.

And they gotta be from Texas or Oklahoma.

A real cowboy’s got some dirt on his jeans and scuffs on his boots. My favorite is a Texas farm boy in work boots, dusty jeans, and a worn out ball cap with a fish hook on the bill. Yummmmm.

I can’t participate in this because 1.) I’ve yet to met a real cowboy (except in books so I don’t want to run the risk of stereotyping) and 2.) I already have the book.

But, Holly, where’s the chest hair on those cowboys? I don’t need a hair shirt or anything but a light dusting never fails to make my fingers tingle…..

  12. So for years now I’ve been a PBR (Professional Bull-Riding) fan. I see bull riding every year with my parents (and we are SO not hicks). This, as they say at every PBR event, is NOT a RODEO. It’s bull riding.

I looooove going. All those cowboys, with their southern twangs, hats, chaps, and sweet cheeks (you know the ones I’m referring to!)….mmm. Gotta love them cowboys.

  13. I’ll take a cowboy any day! I love the way they wear their well worn jeans, the way they are muscled from hard work and not going to the gym & their accent.

  14. I love cowboys! Three things I like about them are:
1.the way they look in their hats, chaps and jeans.
    2. they don’t mind to do a hard days work
    3. they are courteous and honorable
